Approach Social Work (formerly known as the Frontline programme) is a three-year master’s programme, building a new, diverse generation of social workers. Designed and delivered by social work charity Frontline, we teach social work differently. By blending learning and practice, what you discover in theory is eased into real-life settings, supervised by a social worker. Gaining your postgraduate diploma within 12 months, will be the first step in your life-changing career.

You’ll learn how to connect with children, young people, parents and carers. How to gain all important trust, so a family opens their door to you again. What’s in it for you?

What to expect as a trainee social worker

Year 1: 

• Start with five weeks of intense online study, including five in-person sessions, led by experts in social work theory.

• Begin your 12-month placement in a local council social work team, where you'll work closely with fellow trainees and an experienced social worker. You'll gradually take on more responsibility in supporting children and families.

• Qualify as a social worker by the end of your first year.

Year 2:

• Manage your own caseload, building on your skills and confidence.

• Engage in ongoing study to further develop your professional abilities.

• Receive continued support from Frontline tutors, your employer and fellow trainees.

Year 3:

• Conduct a research project and complete the academic credits needed for your fully-funded social work master's degree.

• Receive leadership coaching to enhance your professional capabilities.

Who we’re looking for

Responsible to: Head of Fundraising & Partnerships

Purpose of Job: To secure income from across fundraising including supporters, events, and partnerships.

Location: Rockinghorse is based in central Brighton. Our work is across Sussex.

Salary Range:               £32k to £36k depending on experience.

Contract:                       Up to 37.5 hours (FTE). Part time and other flexible arrangements welcomed. It is expected that the postholder will fulfil any additional duties during evenings and weekends as required and work flexibly to do so.

About Rockinghorse Children’s Charity

Rockinghorse Children’s Charity supports sick and disabled children across Sussex. We support babies, children and young people, along with their families, at The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and The Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex. 

We deliver and fund projects that enable doctors and nurses to do more. All of projects are led by the needs of children and young people and their families – the lifesaving medical equipment, the support for parents and families, the toys for children spending time in hospitals across Sussex, the environments and spaces that help children feel more at home when they are in hospital and additional staff to make sure children get the best possible care when they are unwell. 

Originally set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, we have been supporting children for more than 55 years, and in that time, we have supported nearly a million children and their families. As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, including the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, we work with the NHS, charity partners and the Sussex community to ensure children can be children no matter now sick they are. 

We do not receive any government, statutory or local authority funding and so we rely on the generous support of individuals, community groups, companies and trusts: people like you, who care about children and want Sussex to be a safe place for children to grow up. 

About the role

In 2022 we launched our three-year strategic plan, which prioritised our activities to enable us to support more babies, children and teenagers. As we enter the final year of this strategy the charity continues to expand and develop its projects and services children all over Sussex.

This role will support the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships in securing income in line with targets across our fundraising portfolio, to ensure we can continue to deliver life-saving projects for children and young people across Sussex.

You’ll bring excellent organisational skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, a can-do attitude, evidence of brilliant relationship management skills and a passion and enthusiasm for fundraising.  Duties of the role 

Supporting the charity to secure income from across our fundraising portfolio:

Rockinghorse raises money to support children in hospitals, their families and the staff that care for them.

· Support the delivery of a programme of unique and income generating Rockinghorse events according to agreed plans each year, to be determined by postholder in collaboration with the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships.

· Support the creation of new, exciting and innovative events for the charity that support the charity’s objectives – to thank supporters, to engage new and existing supporters, to generate income and/or raise our profile.

· Support with expanding our external and third-party events programme working with external events companies to deliver existing events and developing new ones that support the charity’s mission and maximising the income they generate for the charity.

· Work with our Head of Marketing & Communication to develop seasonal campaigns (Spring and Christmas) that appeal to, educate and inform our supporters and generate income (against agreed targets).

· Maintain and develop the charity’s central database (e-Tapestry) for fundraising activities and supporters.

· Undertake reporting function for fundraising activities and supporters.

· Work with the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships on budgeting and reporting of income generating activities. 

· Represent the charity at our events and activities, which will include evenings and weekends.

· Support the charity’s income generation strategy, in line with the charity’s strategic plan, which generates the income and ROI required to further Rockinghorse’s charitable mission.

Supporting the charity to deliver brilliant, funded projects that support children and their families:

Rockinghorse delivers and funds around 70 projects per year – supporting sick and disabled babies, children, young people and their families in hospitals in Sussex.

· Work with Head of Fundraising & Partnerships to match projects to partners, supporters and appeals – to ensure our projects are funded and delivered.

· Work with Head of Fundraising & Partnerships to create case for supports for our projects that appeal to and attract a range of supporters.

· Work with Projects Manager, project leads and Head of Marketing & Communication to create and disseminate project updates and communication to ensure our supporters are informed, educated and engaged in our work.

· Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications and project leads to build up a bank of case studies, quotes and stories we can use to feed back to supporters.

Support the charity more widely:

· Represent Rockinghorse at events, activities and networks, building strong peer relationships and sharing best practice.

· Model excellent conduct and behaviours in line with the charity’s values and ethos.

· Carry out other such duties as may be required for the purposes of the charity; this will include working during evenings and weekends as required and the postholder would be expected to work flexibly to do so.

Duties of the role 

Supporting the charity to deliver brilliant projects and service that support children and their families:

Rockinghorse delivers and funds around 70 projects per year – supporting sick and disabled babies, children, young people and their families in hospitals in Sussex – volunteers are a vital part of our ability to deliver and fund these projects.

This role will:

· Work across the charity team to recruit volunteers with the necessary skills, experience and commitment to support our project delivery, fundraising activities and office work.

· Lead on the co-ordinate the induction and training of volunteers to ensure they are fully onboarded and prepared for the charity, the role and to support our work.

· Set up interviews and initial getting to know you conversations to understand the skills, experience and needs of volunteers to ensure they are matched with the right role in the charity.

· Ensure that volunteers are able to achieve their aspirations in terms of work, education, training or further volunteering during their time with the charity.

· Co-ordinate individual and/or group supervision and support for volunteers.

· Ensure that volunteers involved in the charity’s work have access to relevant training and required policies and procedures to ensure they feel confident and are able to develop the skills needed to carry out their role.

The HAF Project Manager is the strategic lead for the HAF programme. You will manage a budget of over £800,000, make commissioning decisions, and ensure strong due diligence processes and quality control. You will collaborate with HAF provider organisations from the voluntary and community sectors, ensuring high-quality delivery. Additionally, you will work closely with YCF colleagues to communicate the impact of HAF, represent YCF in senior spaces, and assist in reporting to YCF’s Board of Trustees.

Working closely with Camden’s Children’s Commissioning team and YCF’s CEO you will ensure that each HAF programme in Camden offers participating children and young people a diverse and enjoyable range of activities provided by respected organisations, operating at the highest levels of safety, quality, and in alignment with the Department for Education’s funding requirements. You will report to YCF’s CEO and to Camden Council on the programme’s delivery and impact, and will lead on all reporting.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience or interest in cross-sector partnership work, with programme management experience, and a drive to make a difference in the lives of children and young people. The role requires self-awareness, the ability to learn quickly, and a willingness to pitch in with the wider work of YCF, as we are a small team with limited resources.

They are responsible for fostering a culture of inclusion, holding people to account through knowledge and skills and create a brave space for challenging conversations.​

You will have a proven track record of driving impactful EDI initiatives across the charity, private, or public sectors, with the ability to influence and inspire others through your actions and behaviours. The £4.5m Young Gamechangers Fund (YGF) is an exciting UK funding initiative that provides grants of up to £20,000 a year to young people transforming communities into safer, more sustainable and more inclusive places to live. The Youth Power Coordinator will play a leading role in ensuring that our diverse group of grantees - the Young Gamechangers – receive the support, training and guidance they need to help their vision come to life. The Young Gamechangers are active across the length and breadth of the country, and a whole range of issues, whether that be
addressing the needs of working class Northern Muslim women; supporting young trans people; eradicating fly tipping; or drawing from their lived experience to support other autistic young people.

We are looking for someone who is excited by youth leadership and wants to support young people to drive positive social change in communities across the UK. You might have worked in the youth sector already or been a young volunteer or activist yourself. Job summary

The Trust, Statutory and Lottery Fundraising Team is part of the Fundraising, Marketing and Communications Department and is central to Whizz Kidz contributing to its ambitious goal of ensuring that every young wheelchair user in the UK is mobile, enabled and included. The five-strong team is responsible for delivering over £3m a year for the organisation’s services.

As Trust Fundraising Officer you will be growing income through managing smaller funders and building close relationships with them, issuing small Trust mailings, researching new funding opportunities and developing case for support liaising with colleagues in service teams.

You will also ensure that donor records are maintained accurately on the fundraising CRM, process bank and cash donations and thank donors promptly and appropriately.  The role will involve supporting the maintenance of the team’s administrative systems and the team’s move to a new CRM – Microsoft Dynamics.

The small Trust donor pool is a well-established income stream for Whizz Kidz with content for proposals readily available and warm funders interested in supporting our work. The role receives advice and guidance from the Trust Fundraising Manager on the day- to- day work and the opportunity to develop experience with a range of funders. You will use your skills of relationship management to make a real difference to the lives of young wheelchair users. Finally, you will join an ambitious, young-person focused and collaborative fundraising team, keen to share success and support one another.

The person

The ideal candidate will have experience and understanding of Trust fundraising including preparing successful fundraising proposals and reports, effectively managing funder relationships and strong funding research skills. They will also have experience of managing fundraising administration, income processing and data management with skills using a fundraising CRM. They will have excellent writing skills in relation to proposal and report writing, be a confident communicator with an ability to engage funders with the work of Whizz Kidz, manage their time effectively and prioritise their own workload.

Role - Zero Hours Children's Resource Worker

Hours - variable and inconsistent including evenings and weekends

Salary - £12.77 per hour plus 15% Holiday Pay

Location - Home-based with travel required across Bristol, Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Swindon, Devon, Torbay, and Exeter

TACT South West are recruiting Zero Hours Children's Resource Workers to work with unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking children/young people, and Neurodivergent children/young people across the South West regions. 

The ideal Children's Resource Worker will already have some experience in working with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children/young people, neurodivergent children/young people, and have worked with Parent-Child Arrangements. An understanding of therapeutic support for foster carers and children would be beneficial. There will be a range of opportunities for training and development for this role, as new workers join us on our organisation wide journey to become a fully trauma-informed organisation.

Key duties and abilities for our Children's Resource Worker will include:

• Ability to work with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children/young people
• Ability to work with neurodivergent children/young people
• Supporting interventions and activities to ensure stable placement arrangements
• Ability to transport children and young people to events, appointments, and meetings (mileage reimbursed)
• Occasional participation in virtual and face to face events and occasional residential meet ups
• Ability to attend and assist with organising events and activities
• Understanding and maintaining knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures
• Use of IT for email and communication
• Willingness to work flexibly, according to deadlines and needs of the organisation
