Responsibilities and Person Specification:
The Senior Public Affairs Officer will work with colleagues across the organisation to deliver Independent Age’s public affairs activities, ensuring we have an effective presence and profile in the UK Parliament and across Whitehall.
You should have previous experience working in a public affairs role, and a strong working knowledge of the current Westminster political landscape. You should also have experience working on influencing strategies to create policy change.

Our Little Stars project for 0–12 year olds has been established for over 3 years supporting younger members and their families with their diagnosis and beyond. We also have a growing Teen membership known as FIRE (Friendship, Independence, Resilience, Equality) Working alongside our multi skilled, established team, you will be supporting members across all age groups and building on the great foundations already in place.
Core role

To provide information to individuals, families, carers affected by Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus including hard to reach communities living within your area.

To provide advice, support and guidance to enable people with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus to access the correct benefits to become financially stable, the right services to improve their health and well-being, and to better co-ordinate their support and independence through a variety of methods. This will include attending specialist clinics in the area to engage with them.

To refer individual members and/or their families/carers to the most appropriate source of expertise and support in Shine’s Health team and other designated leads within the organisation, or signpost to external agencies as appropriate.

To develop age-specific groups and peer support networks which will provide opportunities for people with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus to connect and interact, enabling social opportunities and to share experiences, support and learn from each other.

To work with and develop opportunities for Shine volunteers.

Prisoners Abroad is a unique UK-based human rights and welfare charity providing advice and support to people affected by overseas imprisonment. We help British people during their incarceration, when they return to the UK and need support to resettle and reintegrate, and we also support their family and friends throughout the trauma.

To ensure the continuation of our programmes during times of staff absence, we are now seeking to recruit a Prison Facilitator on a bank working basis to work across the North region. Working closely with prisons and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will support with the delivery and development of our literacy and numeracy programme in the North region, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.
Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships quickly and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. You will also have a willingness to travel, sometimes at short notice, to provide short or long term cover within the region including some overnight stays.
This role will be prison-based. This is a bank role and so the number of days to be worked will vary and are not guaranteed.

The Children and Young Person’s Worker will work within a multi-agency system to provide a trauma informed, proactive, person centered service for young people and their families who have experienced domestic abuse, empowering choice through informed decision making.
Our Education and Recovery Team brings together dynamic, passionate and committed individuals who share a common focus on delivering high quality, person-centered and trauma informed support to children and young people. The team have a responsibility to work with multi-agency partners, building awareness and understanding of domestic abuse.
Key elements of the role include:
- Providing practical and emotional support and outreach to children and young people.
- Risk assessing and helping to keep young people safe through safety planning.
- Ensuring the voice of children and young people informs every stage of our support provision.

We are hiring a Recovery Worker to join our women's only refuge in Hove. The service supports 18 women with a trauma informed approach using a psychologically informed environment model to provide high quality, person centred support to all our residents.
You will support with a range of frontline care and support activities within the service, in a varied role. You will work towards supporting residents/participants to achieve their desired goals/outcomes, and will ensure all residents/participants understand and have the right tools and resources for positive outcomes. You will also develop, participate in, and encourage residents/participants to participate in the running of activities, projects and events. There will be a focus on risk assessments and management, as well as housing and property management.
