Job description

 

The Project started in 1991 and is based in South Birmingham.  The Project provides support to people in Warwick, Birmingham and Redditch to prevent homelessness and to maximise income.  We are one of 9 Advice Quality Standard accredited organisations in Birmingham and have AQS for advice and casework in 6 areas.  We are also members of agencies such as Advice UK, Institute of Money Advisors and are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority.  

We currently deliver financial inclusion services to people accessing B30 Foodbank, Warwick district foodbanks and Redditch foodbanks as well as various grants that enable us to provide income maximization and homelessness prevention services to people over the age of 18 across Northfield and Selly Oak.  

We are recruiting for an exciting new role for a Money Advice Caseworker who will work across Redditch Foodbank and also at our main office in Longbridge and potentially other community organisations to provide a financial inclusion service. 

There could be occasional out of hours work for events/to meet client needs and local travel for both roles therefore car driver essential.

The Money Advisor will:

•       Deliver a FCA regulated and Advice Quality Standard money advice service.

•       Provide initial financial health checks as well as case work for a full service 

•       Support clients to understand welfare benefits systems, processes and debt management options

•       They will effectively assess service users financial situations, offering personalised advice on income maximisation, including: better off calculations, unclaimed benefit entitlement and debt management options.  

•       The successful applicant will provide welfare benefit and debt sessions at The Project and at other locations across Redditch including food banks, community centres, churches and advice cafes. This may include some late evening sessions and occasional home visits where appropriate/applicable.

•       Supporting service users from start to finish on a range of welfare benefit and debt issues.

•       Identify wider support needs and make referrals/signposting

•       Support with making complaints and escalating complaints to the financial regulators

•       Completing forms, providing representation and advocacy 

•       Work towards / maintain their IMA qualification and others

Ideally we are looking for:

•       At least 1 years experience of working as a welfare benefits advisor/money advisor 

•       High quality and relevant knowledge on welfare benefits and debts

•       Effective oral and written skills, ability to negotiate, represent and report of behalf of clients with third parties.

•       Good numeracy skills with the ability to carry out better off calculations and prepare individual financial statements on behalf of clients.

•       Experience of working within busy client focused environments.

•       Ensure that safeguarding is a priority within all day to day operations  

•       Support the business as and when required
