Job description

We are seeking to recruit a Generalist Adviser. This exciting role is perfect for a candidate who wants to deliver an immediate impact in the Kensington and Chelsea community and is excited about exposure to a range of clients and workstreams, through a combination of:

  • Delivering a gold-standard of advice to clients across the suite of Citizens Advice’s advice areas by assessing their need for welfare benefits, debt, and housing advice, as well as support across employment, immigration, consumer and family issues.

  • Immersing yourself within the whole service: providing your expertise to clients within vibrant community settings and through crucial remote channels such as via telephone and webchat.

  • Engaging with your advice work across a range of varied services, with opportunities to work with prisoners at HMP Wormwood Scrubs, in-patients with mental health needs at St Charles hospital, as well as work at our innovative Help and Advice Hubs and income maximisation services.

  • Showing leadership for our volunteers by supporting their learning and development within the organisation.

  • Staying alert to legal and regulatory development and contributing to our research and campaign goals.

  • Investing in your own self-development by engaging with sector-leading in-house and external training, gaining exposure to reporting requirements and funder expectations, and developing and supporting volunteers.

We will also consider applications from candidates wanting to train to be a Generalist Adviser on a one year training contract. One previous trainee said of our programme: “Thank you so much for your support with my ongoing professional development... I have really enjoyed my time at Citizens Advice Kensington and Chelsea, and will treasure the memories I have of the staff and clients. I have learnt so much about advisory work and myself in the process and am very grateful for all the opportunities that you have given me.”

Please make it clear on your application whether you are applying for the qualified adviser or trainee adviser role.
