We are actively looking to engage a Senior Project Finance and Risk Advisor (SPFRA) to join the Programme Finance Team here in the UK. This opportunity is offered on a two year fixed-term contract which is renewable.
About the role
The SPFRA, reports to the Head of Programme Finance and focuses in supporting and advising on project financial management and donor compliance to key stakeholders across the organisation. As a specialist role the post-holder has detailed understanding of the rules and regulations of an increasingly large portfolio of donors including USAID, the EC, FCDO and SCB[1] and a wide range of other smaller-scale funders.
This role is integral in supporting and advising teams and stakeholders throughout key stages of Sightsavers’ project life-cycles through to close-out and exit. The post-holder ensures project financial planning, monitoring and reporting are delivered on time and to a very high standard. The role also provides support to Sightsavers’ overall project financial management processes through capacity building and key projects/ objectives.
Key accountabilities but not limited to:
- Project cycle; financial management support and advice, project design and proposal development, project start-up and inception, implementation and close-out/ exit.
- Capacity building; identifying gaps and challenges and generating/ implementing the capacity building plan.
- Working on a portfolio independently, with support.
- Engaging in special objectives/ special projects as assigned.
- Providing other support as a member of the Programme Finance team.

If you have similar experience within international development covering risk management tied to projects and their complexity, donor compliance, rules and regulations; contract value; reputational risk; budget development for bids; advising start up activities for newly approved donor funded projects; implementation, close out and exit of projects from a finance and risk perspective this could be an ideal opportunity.

You will have extensive experience of strategic financial management, and have experience with ensuring compliance with external regulatory bodies and legal standards. You will have excellent organisational skills and will be able to imagine and embed innovative ways of approaching finance control and reporting, with the ability to update systems and processes in the charity.
Key responsibilities
- Financial planning and financial strategy

Lead on financial planning, including annual budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting processes, to ensure accurate and timely information.

Foster organisational coherence in Finance and Operations, developing systems and policies aligned with the Urban Saints values and strategy.

Identify and implement a new strategic approach for the finance systems at Urban Saints, which allows us to coherently work in alignment with charity objects and strategic goals.

Provide insights and recommendations to the NLT for informed decision-making.

- Financial control and reporting

Oversee financial control systems, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.

Work with the NLT and the Finance & Audit Subcommittee preparing the necessary updated for review and approval as necessary.

Preparing and presenting detailed financial reports to the NLT and the Board of Trustees, offering clear and actionable insights to guide strategic decisions.

Report on use, investment and performance of restricted, unrestricted and designated funds.

Work with the Finance Team to design and implement financial reports, including monthly management accounts, KPIs and statutory financial statements.

Conduct financial analysis and provide meaningful insights on KPIs to drive charity performance and identify areas for improvement.

Oversee the operational finance elements of the charity (internal or outsourced), ensuring timely and accurate processing and that all the necessary statutory filings are being made as they should.

Steer and coordinate outsourced functions e.g., payroll, audit firm.

Ensure all tax filings are accurate and timely and VAT filings are completed.

Ensuring all payroll information is accurate and submitted on time, and that pension contributions are correct.

Coordinate and guide on the annual audit to ensure that this is carried out as efficiently and effectively as possible with no issues, with the preparation of the statutory accounts and filing made on a timely basis.

One of the members of the Coram group, Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) is a specialist centre for children’s rights in education, immigration, community care and family law, and provides significant international legal systems consultancy. The centre is located on the Coram Campus in central London with a base in Colchester. We champion access to justice through information and advice, legal practice and representation, policy and strategic litigation. Our Legal Practice Unit provides advice and representation under legal aid contract and through grant funding. CCLC’s Finance and Billing Team is based in our London and Colchester office. It is anticipated this role would be based in our London office working alongside the Finance and Operations Manager.
About the role
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, multi-skilled Finance and Billing Assistant to support our busy practice.
The primary purpose of the role is to provide financial and administrative assistance to the Finance and Operations team, particularly focussed on increasing our Legal Aid billing capacity. This may involve assistance with broader financial and administrative tasks in order to release the overall capacity of the whole Finance Team to increase efficiency and maximise Legal Aid billing. From time to time, the role may also be required to provide general administrative and reception assistance, particularly for annual leave cover.
The role would suit an organised and efficient individual with strong IT skills who is looking to develop a career working within the charity finance or business support sector. This would be a particularly rewarding role for someone with an appreciation of the important role legal aid advice and representation plays in securing access to justice for the most vulnerable in society. Previous experience working in an administrative, operations or finance role would be desirable. However, full training will be provided and ongoing support and supervision will be available and therefore it is most important that the successful candidate can demonstrate the ability to work independently and show initiative and problem solving skills.
This is an office-based role and as such the successful candidate will benefit from being part of an experienced team. However, whilst this is a full-time position, we will consider requests for part-time working (28 hours per week minimum) and we will endeavour to offer some flexibility with days and hours to be agreed.

Responsibilities: Finance
- Expense and invoice Management: Accurately file and record expenses and invoices using QuickBooks or Xero

Compensation and Benefits
- This role is two days a week. We are open to this being two full full days or the allocation being stretched across the week.
- The contract is being offered on a one year fixed-term contract at 37,000 GBP pro-rata with a strong possibility of extension

- An NVQ or equivalent in accounting/business studies or relevant business experience.
- Recent work experience in a finance/ accounts department.
- Experience of working with and processing bank reconciliations.
- Previous experience of using computerised accounts packages, preferably in a high-volume processing environment.
