Voices In Action
The Voices in Action team work with children and young people who face multiple crisis’s and may have complex needs including facing school exclusion, homelessness, immigration issues, and involvement in the care system.
About the role
You will:
- Provide specialist advocacy support to vulnerable children and young people through our Voices in Action program.
- Provide advocacy support to young people ensuring their wishes and feelings are listened to in decisions being made about their lives and helping them avoid crisis points and improve life chances.
- Provide support primarily, but not exclusively, around issues leading to school exclusion. Other advocacy support will include working with young people who are in crisis and/or experiencing crisis.
- Support the work of the Voices in Action team to engage children and young people (particularly from Black, and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller, communities), schools and other agencies in order that we can reach the children and young people who need our support and inform our policy work.
- You will support the work of the Voices in Action team to co-produce and co-deliver training, workshops and resources for children and young people, and professionals to help reduce school exclusions and other crises.

We are looking to recruit a Family Services Practitioner to assist with the provision of our whole family holistic approach and to support parents and children in our Family service through a mixture of outreach support and the delivery of a range of learning and play activities. About the role
As Operations Administrator, you will work as part of the Operations Team to ensure the smooth running of the ‘behind the scenes’ work of the organisation, to support the Operations Manager in processing the monthly impact measurement data and to provide operational administrative and IT support for the organisation’s outreach teams and the general work of the organisation.

The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. You should be passionate about working with this client group, able to manage a fast-moving caseload, and committed to working collaboratively with a team across multiple services.

Our transmedia approach shapes the work of researchers and leading policy experts. We contribute to regional and national discourse, performing Key Change at the Houses of Parliament in 2016 contributing to the Prison Safety and Reform White Paper, Lasagna was used in evidence as part of the Ministry of Justice Family Law Inquiry 2020 which recommended a root and branch overhaul and Rupture is the result of the Parental Rights in Prison partnership with NEPACS and Durham University. In 2021 during the pandemic, our play ‘Sugar’ was commissioned for BBC iPlayer and was programmed on Way Out TV directly into 54k prison cells.

About you

The postholder will keep up to date with relevant external research and local/national data and will work on collaborative evaluation projects with external partners, including the Fullscope consortium of local organisations supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. This is a role with opportunity for learning advanced data skills in Excel and PowerBI with the possibility of progression in the team.

The AFRUCA Child Protection Family Support Service sits within AFRUCA as one of our most impactful programmes targeting families from a range of ethnic backgrounds across England and Wales. The service works closely with local authorities children’s services in cases involving families on child protection plans or in court proceedings. We provide direct one to one training and support for parents to aid their ability to provide appropriate parenting and ensure a safer, happier home environment for their children.
The AFRUCA Child Protection Service currently has a team of five qualified social workers and supports over 50 families each year. We also provide a therapeutic service where children are being reunified with their parents. We are establishing a child protection legal drop in service for families in contact with children’s services and an advocacy service for parents in the child protection system.
Most of our families are referred by local authorities children’s services as a result of cultural and religious practices which are deemed harmful to children’s well-being. We offer qualified social workers who do not wish to work in the statutory sector with an alternative approach to practising social work where empathy, kindness and support is key to our work with families. Our ultimate aim is a reduction of children in Black and Ethnic communities going into or remaining in foster care. We offer a non oppressive and non judgemental service that helps to promote the well-being of children in safe families.
