Fundraising and Communications Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate advocate to join the charity developing and contributing to a comprehensive fundraising strategy, focusing on Trusts and Foundations.

This is a hybrid-working role offering flexible working hours.

Position: Fundraising and Communications Manager

The Role

Funding from Trusts and Foundations is critical to the sustainability of the organisation. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring sufficient funding for the sustainability of the charity and its core activities by maintaining and developing current relationships with funders as well as generating additional income to meet targets. 

As Fundraising and Communications Manager, you will also be the lead for the communication strategy, and line manage the Communications Officer and enhance the charity’s visibility and engagement with donors and other audiences. The role will be weighted towards income generation.

About You

You will have experience within fundraising, communications or marketing with proven experience writing successful grant applications, meeting targets and managing relationships with funders.

You will have experience of

· Trust and foundation fundraising

· Strategic fundraising planning, including income forecasting, and performance monitoring.

· Developing content for various platforms (website, social media, newsletters).

· Managing workloads, including the ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.

You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to craft compelling and persuasive proposals and reports and the ability to produce high quality written materials tailored to different audiences.

About the Organisation

The Challenging Behaviour Foundation was set up in 1997 by Vivien Cooper OBE, the parent of a child with severe learning disabilities who displayed a range of challenging behaviours. We are looking for a Corporate Partnerships Manager to support the Head of Membership Engagement in the overall development and delivery of commercial revenue streams at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising. This will include all current sponsorship for conferences, including our flagship Fundraising Convention, corporate membership, and strategic partnerships. 

Job purpose:

• Recruiting, retaining, and developing corporate members.
• Identifying and securing new sponsors and exhibitors for the Chartered Institute’s event business, including one-day conferences, webinars, and Fundraising Convention.

The Fundraising team is a small but mighty national team. Income is generated through High Net-Worth Individuals, Corporate Partnerships and Trusts & Foundations. Our Corporate Partnerships function is led by a Senior Manager along with a Volunteering & Partnerships Manager and Fundraising Officer. Many of our Corporate partners are multi-year and strategic. 2023/24 will see MyBnk continue to grow, raising £4m and beyond as we build our national team and deliver more expert-led financial education through our award-winning programmes.

The Corporate Partnerships Manager will lead several existing corporate partnerships to ensure that they deliver significant impact, engage staff, and raise awareness of the importance of quality financial education across the UK. Staff engagement and senior stakeholder management will be key deliverables in addition to fundraising product innovation and maintains MyBnk’s high partnership retention rate.

About the Role

As the Senior Communications Officer (content) in the Public Engagement Team, you will be passionate about the rights of young people in the UK. Using your creativity and experience in delivering public-facing communications content and fundraising content you will be instrumental in increasing Depaul UK’s income, profile and influence. Your ability to meaningfully engage and involve young people, staff and volunteers will ensure that their voices are heard and amplified through Depaul UK’s communications and fundraising activity.

You will lead the delivery of communications and fundraising content that increases brand awareness and engages our target audiences to support Depaul UK as donors or in other ways support the organisation. We will expect you to ensure that your content and brand awareness raising activity is consistent with Depaul’s values.

Working closely with internal colleagues as well as external designers, filmmakers, photographers and other agencies, you will actively engage with young people in our services and in the communities we work in to capture their experiences, amplify their voices and develop content and material for our communications and fundraising activity.

Key responsibilities include:

● Take a lead role in the delivery of Depaul UK’s creative content production that strengthens our profile and allows us to raise more funds for our work

● Coordinate the Content creation of the whole Fundraising and Engagement team and draw up a Content Creation Strategy in conjunction with colleagues, ensuring you are closely linked to both the needs of Public Engagement, Philanthropy and Partnerships and the wider organisation.

● Work with internal stakeholders to develop and deliver content briefs

● Interview clients and craft compelling written stories to support our messages and campaigns across print and digital platforms.

● Produce video and photography content to support our messages and campaigns across print and digital platforms.

● Work closely with external design agencies and freelancers to support the production of key organisational print and digital materials ensuring high quality production that meet brand guidelines

● Be an advocate for the brand and work with the Head of Communications to ensure brand guidelines are adhered to across all content.

About You

You will need to have the following skills and experience:

● Experience in interviewing case studies and creating compelling written and visual stories for a variety of audiences.

● Knowledge of video production and video editing software Premiere Pro

● Experience in using brand guidelines to create content

● Experience working with and managing external partners and freelance photographers, filmmakers and designers

● Experience working with socially excluded or vulnerable people

● Experience in analysing complex information and then summarising and presenting it in easy-to-understand content

● Experience in delivering a wide range of high-quality content

● Excellent project management skills, with an ability to prioritise competing demands and deliver to deadlines

● Willingness to work variable hours including evenings and weekends as needed.

Despite having doubled its outputs in the last 2 years, the charity acknowledges there is still a great job of work to do to prepare itself for even greater demand in its services - without necessarily a proportionate increase in its budgets. This role is about leading and enabling the incredible team of people on to even greater levels of already-strong performance. So we're looking for an accomplished leader and not just a great manager. We're looking for someone who can lead from both the front - and from within. This will be someone who is as comfortable sitting and engaging with our beneficiaries - primarily homeless people and those with previous convictions, as they are creating and delivering highly polished, compelling public event and funder and stakeholder-focussed presentations. We are looking for someone who understands the balance of external and internal focus required to ensure both good governance and team wellbeing (as they work in often challenging circumstances) and the ambition to keep developing existing and new external partnerships. With a strong start to its ambitious Corporate Partnership programme, commercial and/or business experience is highly desirable as well as a proven track record in creating and optimising new funding channels.

About Us

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

Is leading the charity through its next phases of development as it prepares itself for year on year increases in demand with a focus on delivering the charity’s future resilience plan (Project 12/25). The CEO is accountable for overall charity performance (financial, operational, governance, compliance), team (paid and volunteer) support and development. Additionally, there are a wide range of community and external partner relationships to manage and develop. Ultimately this role sets the tone for the charity, one of both compassion and ambition to improve the lives of the people who need us. This is primarily an on-site role, with occasional opportunity to work flexibly.

About You

You have a stable CV that demonstrates you have built and led successful teams and enabled growth and/or transformation for your organisation – ideally in an equivalent charity/non-profit environment. You can evidence strong team leadership and results across a wide range of business functions which will need to include income generation, managing budgets and business operations. You live within - or know well, West/Central London, are passionate about improving the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people and can lead multi-functional teams through a blend of 121 coaching, training and ensuring a ‘we can do this’ culture across the charity.
