About the Brent Centre for Young People (BCYP)

The Brent Centre for Young People is the leading mental health charity for young people in Northwest London, helping over 700 young people a year with a wide range of issues. We offer specialised treatment in the areas of depression, suicide prevention, tackling self-harm, eating disorders, exam anxiety and more. Our approach is rooted in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. We aim to reach significantly more young people in the years ahead, drawing on our heritage that combines specialist treatment in-house and outreach into communities. The Brent Centre is also an important Research Centre on Adolescent Breakdown and Adolescent Psychotherapy.

Fundraising at BCYP

BCYP has historically been very successful in raising funds from non-statutory sources, particularly trusts and foundations, and is grateful to hold a number of established relationships with grant- makers. We work hard to ensure that we submit excellent, data-driven applications and evaluations. Until now, applications have largely been submitted by our Fundraising Manager- Trusts & Foundations, with occasional support from a freelance bid-writer. We now want to recruit a new member of the team, to help us to grow our income stream in this area and help us to steward these key relationships.

In this exciting newly created role, you will be responsible for helping to grow our income from grant- makers to design and promote funding opportunities, and to steward relationships with supporters through the giving cycle. We are looking for a fundraiser with at least three to four years of experience in identifying prospects and grant-writing, and who has experienced success in securing funds. Vitally, we want to recruit an individual who is as committed to Brent’s vision, and who will work with us to help us be there for young people in the coming years.

2makeit helps rehabilitate prisoners and ex-prisoners by offering them creative expression through programmes using music and the arts, mentoring, advice and guidance.

This part-time, maternity cover role co-ordinating the growth of 2makeit’s work supporting the rehabilitation of offenders in the community is home-based with travel around London and the South East and involves:

· Liaison with prisons, probation and other agencies

· Responsibility for a small caseload of service users

· Maintenance of a robust record-keeping and evaluation system

· Management and development of projects in the community.

We are looking for:

· Knowledge of current policy and practice in criminal justice, the arts and outreach or support to marginalised people

We are looking for someone with excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with patience and understanding to work with students to give them maximum choice and independence. You should have literacy and numeracy skills with at least grade 4 in GCSE Maths & English. You will have a good level of digital skills and be able to use a range of IT software including Microsoft Office. Harington is an Ofsted regulated specialist college based in north London. In June 2024 we were judged as Good by Ofsted. We work with young people with learning differences aged 16-25. Our students undertake individualised learning programmes that lead to vocational qualifications and other aims, including gardening, retail, English, maths, employability and independent living.  We also deliver a supported internship programme.   

Our charity's learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey alongside our charity's gardening business and two charity shops, provide a unique opportunity for students to practically apply their learning on work experience placements. We also work with other employers to provide opportunities in other settings to meet the aspirations of our students.  

Our larger Highgate training centre is located in beautiful grounds, with a 1.8 acre horticulture site where we grow vegetables and flowers to sell at local markets.

Role Overview

The accountant will play a critical role in maintaining the foundation’s financial health, ensuring compliance with charity law, and supporting its mission through effective financial management.

You will be responsible for bookkeeping, financial management, and providing insightful financial analysis to support decision-making by senior staff and trustees.

Key Responsibilities

1. Bookkeeping

• Perform regular bookkeeping tasks in a timely manner including:

- Accounting for purchase invoices coding to the correct activity and account code;
- Accounting for income receipts to the correct fund – restricted or unrestricted and account code
- Monthly payroll – and journal to correct activity and account code;
- Monthly pension submissions;
- Accounting for direct card payments;
- bank reconciliations – sterling, Euro and other currencies;
- accounting for accruals and prepayments on a monthly basis;
- regular review of accounting transactions to ensure all transactions tracked correctly;
- proper knowledge and application of fund accounting.

2. Statutory Accounts

• Preparation of Statutory accounts to comply with Charity and Company law
• Preparation of backing documentation for audit purposes;
• Co-ordination with auditors during audit process to ensure necessary adjustments posited correctly where appropriate.

3. Finance Management

• Implement and maintain financial controls to ensure efficiency, stability, and good governance, including record-keeping to provide a clear audit trail.
• Conduct detailed analysis of different charitable activities and funds, managing both restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts in a timely manner, highlighting significant points and discussing them with senior staff and trustees.
• Monitor financial activity against specific projects and funding streams, providing regular updates and analysis.
• Conduct an annual review of internal controls to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience as an accountant in the charity sector or a similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of charity law, including handling restricted and unrestricted funds.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in preparing financial reports for senior management and trustees.

The groupwork is based on a programme led by Harvard University and Boston’s Children’s hospital and has structured sessions drawing upon psychological model of CBT, although the sessions are not therapeutic. Each session has a theme and incorporates education, guidance and support.

You will establish and deliver a new peer online support group, facilitating group formation, and enhancing service delivery and creating a safe and welcoming space for bereaved families.

Outside the group sessions you will be responsible for managing the administration and evaluation of the service, including and collection of questionnaires and feedback required for reporting purposes and supporting members with any signposting requirements processing referrals, carrying out eligibility screening, monitoring the waiting list and inputting and keeping all database member and service records up to date.

The impact of the sudden death of a baby is wide and never goes away, as we know from the families that we support. This drives all our work, across each department. The Role: Bereavement Support Worker

As a Bereavement Support Worker at Addiction Family Support, you will provide crucial emotional and practical assistance to individuals affected by the loss of a loved one due to addiction. Through both individual and group support, you will offer a compassionate and understanding presence, helping people navigate grief and loss in a safe and supportive environment.

This role offers flexibility, allowing you to work remotely or in person, depending on the needs of the service and your own availability. Bereavement Support Workers operate within a flexible rota system to ensure those in need of support receive timely and consistent care.

Responsibilities:

• Offer empathetic and non-judgmental emotional support to those affected by the bereavement of a loved one due to addiction.
• Provide information, literature, and resources to help individuals and groups manage grief and cope with their situations.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate bereavement support group meetings, creating a safe space for participants to share their experiences and provide mutual support.
• Respond to inquiries and offer structured emotional support through helplines or support groups, following guidelines and safeguarding practices.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and the charity’s policies.
• Ensure safeguarding concerns are addressed promptly and signpost individuals to additional services where appropriate.

Role Overview: In this commercial development role, you'll focus on member recruitment to meet business targets. Your key responsibilities include researching sales leads, building a strong sales pipeline, and assisting the membership sales team with administrative tasks. You'll work closely with the Member Engagement and Development Manager to create and execute recruitment plans and drive member sign-ups through outreach and communication.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in devising and executing member recruitment plans to achieve sales targets.
• Research and identify new sales leads, cold calling companies to explain membership benefits and value.
• Support the development of membership agreements and group memberships within organisations.
• Build and manage a sales pipeline, passing leads to the permanent sales team for closing.
• Collaborate with internal teams to identify new partners and deliver recruitment targets.
• Drive membership sign-ups using events, existing relationships, and outreach.
