The National Portrait Gallery is seeking two Trusts and Foundations Managers to join their excellent development team and play a key role in making art and history accessible and relevant to people of all backgrounds.

Location: London

Salary: £37,180 (with 28.9% employer pension contribution)

Closing date: 9 a.m. Monday 16th December

Role types: one permanent, one 22 months FTC

Who we are.

The National Portrait Gallery is a world-famous, leading cultural institution that welcomes millions of visitors through its doors each year. A transformed Gallery reopened in 2023 offers world-class exhibition programmes, a diverse and engaging portrait collection and innovative programmes for youth audience engagement.

You’ll join the high-performing and collaborative Development team, working closely with the Senior Fundraising Manager to develop pipelines of support and cultivate relationships. You’ll be fundraising not only to fund new acquisitions and secure the long-term future of this national institution but also to support learning and engagement, national exhibitions and research – all with the view to broaden access to and encourage a love of art and history.

About the role.

As a Trust and Foundations Manager at the National Portrait Gallery, you will be responsible for maximising the value of every trust and foundation partnership, providing excellent stewardship and building relations to ensure long-term support. You will also seek to build and develop a pipeline of new support to ensure the Gallery’s income mix is diverse.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the Senior Fundraising Manager on strategy to income goals whilst supporting a wide array of Gallery projects across exhibitions, learning, collections, and more.
  • Building and maintaining meaningful relationships with key funders, ensuring they are inspired and informed about the Gallery’s impactful work.
  • Working with our Prospect Researcher to identify new funding opportunities, contributing to a robust pipeline of prospects.
  • Writing compelling funding applications that showcase the Gallery’s work and target donor interests.
  • Working with Curators, Exhibition Managers, Conservators, the Learning and Engagement Team, and other departments as you create funding applications for a wide range of Gallery projects.

Who we are looking for.

We are seeking two enthusiastic, motivated and collaborative fundraisers with extensive experience in securing donations from trusts and foundations.

Suitable candidates will have a passion for the National Portrait Gallery and the arts in general, an understanding of its significance and the ability to convey that convincingly to donors.

We need excellent writers and relationship builders who are confident enough to pick up the phone and meet donors face to face.

Benefits.

  • Generous pension scheme (pension rate is 28.9% employer contribution)
  • 27 days annual leave allowance, in addition to bank holidays
  • Interest-free season ticket and bicycle loans
  • Rental deposit scheme
  • Membership of the Civil Service Sports & Leisure Club
  • Access to independent, low-cost healthcare schemes
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Free entry to many UK museums, galleries and exhibitions
  • Staff discounts on purchases in the online shop
  • Professional & personal development opportunities
