About us
Who we are
Burgh House is a Grade 1 Listed historic house in Hampstead, North London. As part of its activities as a registered charity there is a public programme of art and historical exhibitions, cultural and community events. These are made possible by a busy schedule of private/commercial and public hire, being a popular venue for weddings, parties, filming, lectures and talks, well-being classes etc. Burgh House operates 7 days a week. The house is open with free admission to the public Wednesday to Friday and Sunday.
A 650m2 four-storey redbrick Queen Anne & early Georgian house, Burgh House was built in 1704, extended in 1720, with further extensions and alterations in the 1930s and 2005. The House is an Arts Council England Accredited Museum, and contains artworks and archives made available for public enjoyment and learning. The early 20th century’s well-known landscape designer Gertrude Jekyll designed its small surrounding gardens. The café is also a local attraction, within the building and with additional garden seating, open Wednesday to Sunday.
We have around 25,000 visitors a year and manage over 200 public events and private hires including concerts, talks, meetings, workshops, weddings, parties and filming. A team of Events Supervisors supports the delivery of our events.
Burgh House is close to tube, train and bus lines, with many local shopping and entertainment venues.
