About the role
The National Communications Manager is a vital role in enabling both Emmaus UK and Emmaus communities and groups across the UK to achieve our ambition and strategic goal to shout louder, growing our profile and reach in order to support more individuals on the pathway out of homelessness.
Who are we looking for?
The National Communications manager will work with the Director of Fundraising and Influence to develop an ambitious communications strategy for EUK.
The role will develop and coordinate national communications programmes and campaigns and will lead on press and media work for EUK. This role will also take lead responsibility for internal communication at EUK and across the federation in the UK, linking to Emmaus Internationally.

The role, you will:
- Partner with our senior leadership team and department heads to develop financial plans, budgets, and forecasts that align with organisational strategy
- Analyse financial performance, identify trends, and communicate insights to non-financial stakeholders
- Support business planning by modelling financial scenarios and evaluating investment opportunities
- Lead monthly departmental financial reviews, highlighting performance against KPIs and recommending corrective actions

You will have:
- Proven experience working in a finance business partner role; working with senior management to develop financial strategies to support organisational goals

- The experience to lead and manage a small team, with a strong focus on staff development
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with management accounting and financial systems

Role Summary
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a skilled, experienced, and motivated Head of Communications and Engagement to lead on our organisation wide communications and engagement activity ensuring effective alignment with our Strategic plan objectives and our charity manifesto. Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities will include:
- To lead on Communications and Engagement activity for the whole organisation working closely with the CEO and wider Senior Management Team.
- To develop and implement engaging multi discipline campaigns including PR activity that contribute to the delivery of Causeway’s Strategic objectives.
- Lead on developing and communicating Causeways’ core messaging and brand, both internally and externally, ensuring agreed guidelines are adhered to and consistent terminology and language is always used.
- Create a pipeline for gathering stories and case study content in a way that does not place a significant burden on frontline staff and will demonstrate a clear understanding of informed consent and safeguarding in relation to vulnerable individuals and risk assessment processes.
- Build and maintain relationships with key journalists, broadcasters, content creators, celebrities and influencers as required to help further our objectives.
- Oversee the management of content and utilisation of all our digital engagement and communications channels including social media platforms and our website.
- Work to position Causeway at the forefront of the sectors we operate in communicating our innovative approaches, gaining traction and recognition across a wide audience.
- Ensure that all media, press and other external queries are handled in a timely sensitive, mutually beneficial, and accurate way.
- Effectively evaluate and measure the impact of all Communications and PR activity.
- Keep up to date on best practice and news within our sector, particularly in relation to changes to communications innovation, legislation, and codes of practice.
- Ensure Causeway abides by all relevant legislation in relation to its communications.
- Ensure all spend in relation to Communications and Engagement team and projects is within the parameters of the agreed department budget.
- Proactively respond to breaking and industry worthy news to highlight our services and position us at the front of industry knowledge sharing.
- Support identified Causeway media spokespeople in preparing for press and media interviews through thorough and accurate briefings and act as a media spokesperson when required.
- Track relevant daily news stories to our impact areas, responding to trends, key industry announcements and maximizing opportunities.
- Line manage and coach a small but effective team of communications, marketing, and content production staff
- Ensure the CEO and board of trustees are provided with quarterly reports on department progress.

Role Overview

Our Location
We are based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, so we are easily accessible by road and rail. In this role, there is plenty of scope for working from home, although there will be times when you will need to be at face-to-face meetings. You will be required to attend meetings in Hatfield/London twice a month, two Directorate days each year and occasional meetings with your team or our partner agencies. In addition, the charity meets four times annually at its office in Hatfield (or a location in London) for its’ ‘All Staff Together’ days, at which attendance is mandatory.

• Leading fundraising campaigns - launch and manage compelling appeals, including our current Super Theatre appeal, that inspire and engage donors.
• Organizing memorable events - create and oversee events that bring people together to have fun, foster a sense of community and raise money for causes, close to people’s hearts.
• Building community awareness - ensure that our community understands the Charity’s mission, what it is here to do and how to get involved.
• Acting as an ambassador – act as an ambassador for the Charity with potential donors, grant organisations, public, patients and staff.
• Strategic planning - think strategically to align the Charity’s resources with the priorities of the NHS Trust, supporting Trustees in making long- term and effective investment decisions.

We need a passionate and adaptable individual with experience in content creation and social media, and in supporting strategic communications campaigns. A passion for the natural world is a bonus!
The role will provide support to Tusk’s integrated communications strategy, taking a leading role in the implementation of Tusk’s digital communications, especially social media platforms and the creation and curation of digital assets. The communications strategy covers Tusk’s operations and fundraising in both the UK and the US, as well as project activity in Africa.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital Communications
- Implement Tusk’s social media strategy in line with Tusk’s overarching communications strategy, ensuring it adheres to Tusk’s values and brand guidelines, including language and tone of voice
- Produce compelling and shareable content for Tusk’s social media platforms, including videos, images and text
- Analyse social media performance and explore opportunities to drive audience engagement and growth
- Develop promotional films on Tusk’s work
- Keep the Tusk website up to date, writing and uploading regular news posts and blogs
- Prepare regular e-shots in line with the overarching communications strategy and send to Tusk’s e-newsletter subscribers in both the UK and US, and analyse their success
- Create or commission digital content as needed
- Collate digital assets and toolkits and share as required
Communications Strategy
- Support the Head of Communications with the implementation of Tusk’s communications strategy, working with other Tusk team members as required.
- Monitor the media for relevant stories, opportunities and trends.
- Research and identify relevant opportunities for Tusk to react to news, participate in online discussions and share insights to strengthen the brand’s authority.
General
- The nature of the charity demands that this role be flexible to assist generally with all aspects of the work carried out at Tusk and is not limited to the duties listed above
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential:
- 2-3 years’ experience managing social media for a brand
- Ability to produce branded, clear, compelling, and audience-appropriate content for social media and digital platforms
- Excellent video editing and creation skills
- Strong writing and editorial skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and build excellent working relationships internally and externally
- Good organisation, time management and ability to focus on a specific task (as well as multi-tasking)
Desirable:
- Experience of marketing and communications for a charity
- A good understanding of African wildlife conservation issues.
