Policy Manager

We’re looking for a high-performing, collaborative and proactive manager to lead a talented, dynamic policy team on a fixed term contract covering maternity leave.

Position: CE338 Policy Manager

Location: Homebased, UK nationwide. However, occasional travel will be required as part of this role (may include team meetings or other work-related meetings) 

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (flexible working available) 

Salary: Circa £45,000 per annum (inner London weighting £3,950 per annum or outer London weighting £2,100 per annum may be applied in accordance to where you live)

Contract: This is a Fixed Term Maternity Cover Contract until March 2026.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Policy and Influencing, the Policy Manager leads the policy work and the development of UK-wide, evidence-based policy positions on key issues affecting stroke survivors or those at risk of stroke. Working closely with the Policy and Influencing team, devolved nations’ leads as well as other Association teams, they will consult with internal and external experts as well as stroke survivors as part of the policy development process and ensure final positions are disseminated and used effectively.

In a busy health policy arena, the Policy Manager oversees the identification and drafting of organisational consultation responses, ensuring submissions are backed up by evidence, informed by those affected by stroke and have impact with policy makers and audiences. 

The Policy Manager is an astute, experienced policy lead. Providing expert policy advice and support to colleagues across the organisation including local system leaders, they contribute to effective horizon scanning and message development to ensure the organisation is prepared for announcements and events in the external environment. The Policy Manager will also represent the Association at external events and sit on like-minded coalitions. They also support the public affairs work when necessary, and provide policy support for the Chief Executive and other senior leaders by preparing presentations when required.

This role will be provided on a fixed term basis, to cover maternity leave within the team.

About You

As Policy Manager, you will be educated to degree level or relevant demonstrable industry experience and be willing to undertake training and continuing professional development. You’ll be a flexible team player and solutions-focussed.

You will ideally have experience of:

• Overseeing evidence-based policy positions, statements and consultation responses (or equivalent)

• Building relationships with senior policy stakeholders and stakeholder mapping and management

• Meaningfully involving beneficiaries in policy work

• Developing briefings for a range of audiences, for example parliamentarians and senior colleagues

• Experience of leading and motivating others

The Boaz Trust is a Manchester-based charity that started 20 years ago as an outworking of the founder's Christian faith. Last year we provided trauma-informed and person-centred housing and support for more than 200 people facing homelessness after seeking safety in the UK through our floating support and 17 properties that we manage.

mySociety is a small, purposeful charity which uses digital tools to help people to participate more fully in democracy, make governments and society more transparent and help people work together to address societal challenges. We’re looking for an experienced fundraiser who has the research, proposal writing and budget development experience to deliver on our fundraising strategy by securing new sources of income from grant making foundations and government programmes, coupled with the strategic planning and management skills to further diversify our income by building our individual donations. This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract with a pro-rated salary in the range of £55,000 to £65,000 per year, plus pension (4% employer, 4% employee).

About the Role:
A large complex organisation with an income of over £150m is seeking an experienced and dynamic Interim Financial Controller to join their finance team on a maternity cover basis. This role is pivotal in ensuring the financial health and compliance of the organisation during a period of significant change and transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a finance team of 10, including 4 direct reports.
• Oversee the production of annual statutory accounts and manage the audit process.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and statutory requirements.

Job description 

1. Organisational leadership and people management

• Work with the ED and SMT to ensure a values-led and positive organisational culture is reflected throughout ways of working, internal communication, policies and processes, and all team activities.

• Oversee human resources and people management processes, ensuring alignment with best practice in areas including recruitment, induction, performance management, safety, wellbeing, learning and development, and benefits.

2. Operational management

• Oversee the annual planning process, project management, and ongoing monitoring of the organisational Action Plan.

About the role

We’re looking for a Media and Communications Officer to join our Media and PR team.

As a member of the team, you'll have a fundamental role in helping us to deliver on our promise to support young people and their families to deal with the impact of cancer, both during and beyond treatment.

This role, working together with other members of the Policy, Communications and Voice directorate and the wider charity, will help us achieve this by amplifying the voices and experiences of children and young people with cancer, influencing the system to create change and raising awareness and funds.

What will I be doing?

No two days are the same at Young Lives vs Cancer. So, summarising your ‘day to day’ isn’t easy. Here are some of the main things you’ll be doing, but you’ll find more details in the job description.

• Contributing to the development and delivery of the charity’s strategic media plan.
• Developing and implementing creative, effective communications plans for campaigns and projects, in-line with the charity’s overall strategic objectives.
• Writing materials for a range of on and offline channels and platforms including press releases, features, articles, opinion pieces and statements; ensuring these reflect Young Lives vs Cancer’s values and key messages.
• Developing real life stories based on the experience of children and young people, and their families, including interviewing, writing up and arranging photography and film content for use across the charity.
• Establishing quality effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including Media and News outlets, journalists and charity partners.
• Participating in the reactive news desk rota, responding to urgent media enquiries and providing advice to staff and senior managers in order to promote and guard the charity’s reputation. This includes taking part in the out of hours rota as required

PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Assistant Director for POPS core business is pivotal to ensuring the efficient, effective and legally compliant management of POPS’ head office functions and organisational infrastructure. PURPOSE OF THE POST

The purpose of the post is to work closely with POPS’ Director, to ensure the quality and compliant delivery of POPS’ service located currently across Northwest, Yorkshire, Leicester and Bristol.
