Our client is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to improving insights into global conflict and instability. By gathering and sharing data on trends in violence and unrest, they provide valuable resources for understanding complex issues impacting communities worldwide.

As a newly created position, the Fundraising Manager will report to the Head of Grants & Development and oversee a Fundraising Coordinator and Senior Database Officer. The role will be instrumental in implementing the organisation’s strategic plan to expand reach and impact and increase income by $10M over 3 years.

As Fundraising Manager, your initial focus will be developing existing and new relationships with institutional funders, working closely with the Head of Grants & Development. Developing relationships with foundations will be another priority area, with potential to leverage existing relationships that have arisen from tech-level engagement with foundations. In the longer term, plans include pursuing corporate sponsorships and developing income from individual donors (HNWIs).

As Fundraising Manager, you will:

• Implement the fundraising strategy in collaboration with the Head of Grants & Development and the Executive team
• Identify, build, and manage relationships with current and prospective donors across public sector funders, foundations, international organisations, corporate sponsors and individual donors
• Support the development of new projects/proposals in partnership with the Global Programs team, consulting with the Chiefs and Department Heads to ensure proposals align with their capacities
• Collaborate with the public sector licensing team to grow reach to public sector clients (corporates)
• Line manage and support a Fundraising Coordinator and Senior Database Officer

Ideal skills and experience: 

• An entrepreneurial and resourceful fundraiser with experience of developing proposals and budgets and securing significant grants from institutional and international foundation sources
• Working with individual donors (HNWIs) and/or corporate sponsors would be advantageous, but not essential
• Evidence of excellent relationship management skills, with both current and prospective donors
• Ability to handle the complexity of managing multiple fundraising efforts globally
• Line management experience

Benefits include:

• 28 days annual leave including bank holidays, with a c.2-week office closure at the end of the year for the winter hiatus. Typically, this would be 2 weeks with varying start and end dates of the office closure. For example, this year the closure dates start on the evening of Friday 20th Dec with a return to work on Monday 6th January, providing 7 days when employees are offline in addition to bank holidays. 
• Flexible hours – As a global organisation, there is not a requirement for employees to adhere to specific hours or timezones. Employees are encouraged to choose their own working hours, provided they overlap for a few hours with their team members, especially their supervisor and peers.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

• This newly funded role will support the development of community network support for all members of the adoptive community in Scotland. This will be achieved through recruitment and ongoing support for volunteers creating and delivering community focused activities across the AUK Scotland adoption community.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To review existing processes and procedures and improve, develop and implement robust organisation wide policies and procedures alongside UK wide colleagues to ensure that volunteering is well-managed and supported in AUK. 

• To develop volunteer led community networks across Scotland, including in the following local authority areas, Lothian, Perth and Kinross, Angus, Highland and Dumfries and Galloway.

• To manage, supervise and support new and existing volunteers in the set up and running of the community network.

• Working with the Family and Communities manager to support the development of an Adult Adoptee community network in Scotland and work alongside existing adult adoptee volunteers to support attendance at AUK advisory group meetings.

Deaf Unity is a deaf-led charity empowering deaf people. We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive, passionate and highly-organised individual tomanage the administration of our busy BSL training and services, and in implementing strategies to promote these services to new businesses and individuals to grow this area of our charity at this exciting stage of our development.

Income generated from training and courses goes back into the charity to fund our work with deaf school leavers, deaf job seekers and workers and out in the community. This means the work you do will make a positive contribution to and directly impact the lives of deaf people. 

Job Summary 

The Training and Services Manager is responsible for the comprehensive administration, management and promotion of Deaf Unity’s British Sign Language (BSL) training, interpreting services, Deaf Awareness, and other related training courses. This role includes managing course logistics and the freelance team delivering training, monitoring email communications, promoting services, liaising with students, clients and teachers, maintaining the CRM system, handling invoicing, capturing feedback, and managing evaluations. The ideal candidate will be organised, communicative, and committed to providing exceptional service to our clients and students while meeting sales targets. 

Location: London – initially fully remote with some ad hoc site visits. Potential for future hybrid role. 

Reports to: CEO 

Line management responsibilities: freelance BSL teachers and trainers, and freelance communication support team 

Job Type: 35 hours per week, salary £30k-£35k 

Key Responsibilities 

1. Service Management and Administration: 

• Oversee the administration of all services such as BSL courses, interpreting services, Deaf Awareness, and other related training courses. 

• Schedule and coordinate external training sessions and courses, ensuring all logistical details are managed effectively. 

• Monitor and respond to emails in designated inboxes related to training and services. 

• Manage freelance trainers and teachers to ensure the smooth delivery of all courses. 

• Manage freelance interpreters and CSWs to ensure the smooth delivery of communication support services. 

• Ensure compliance with Deaf Unity’s policies and procedures (e.g. finance, safeguarding, health and safety, EDI) in every aspect of service delivery 

2. Promotion of Courses and Services: 

• Develop and implement strategies to promote training, courses and interpreting services to potential clients and students. 

• Conduct outreach and build relationships with organisations, businesses, and individuals to increase course enrolment, and training opportunities. 

• Utilise various marketing channels, including social media, email campaigns, and partnerships, to promote courses. 

• Meet or exceed sales targets for course enrolments and sales of training programmes. 

3. Client, Student, and Teacher Support: 

• Act as the primary point of contact for students, clients, and teachers, providing exceptional customer service and support. 

• Assist with course registration, answer queries, and provide detailed information about training programs. 

• Maintain strong relationships with existing clients, students, and teachers, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded. 

4. CRM and Invoicing: 

• Keep the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system up to date with accurate and relevant information. 

• Generate and manage invoices for BSL and training courses. 

• Track payments and follow up on outstanding invoices to ensure timely payment. 

5. Feedback and Evaluation: 

• Capture feedback from students, clients, and teachers through surveys, or other appropriate methods. 

• Analyse feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance course quality and delivery. 

• Prepare and present evaluation reports to senior management, highlighting key findings and recommendations. 

Qualifications and Skills 

Essential 

• Strong organisational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail. 

• Experience of managing staff/a small team 

• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

• Proven track record of meeting sales targets and promoting services. 

• If no existing BSL skills, an interest and commitment to learning BSL is required (free training provided).

Mid-Level Service Designer

Are you motivated by designing end-to-end services and experiences that make a real difference and influence social change? We are looking for a brilliant Mid-Level Service Designer to join our team designing, building and iterating user-centred services and products to the 18 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. The right person for this role will enjoy working in cross-functional teams to unpick complex and ambiguous user and organisational challenges.

Supported by the Senior Service Designer, this role will have the opportunity to lead on service design work across our strategic programmes of inclusion, health, employment, and research. You will work closely with colleagues in the Digital Team to shape and grow the practice of design, digital, and agile approaches across the organisation.

To be considered for this role you will be: 

Passionately user-focused 
You place people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus at the heart of cohesive and impactful services. You can support colleagues across a variety of roles to understand user needs as well as generate user insights and translate them into impactful outcomes.

Evidence-based in your design approach 
You collect and synthesise evidence from best practice, research, and testing to inform your work. You can suggest suitable approaches to evidence gathering based on the context and constraints.

Collaborative
You work in partnership with teams and individuals across the organisation to design the very best outcomes. You build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and proactively contribute to creating safe and inclusive working environments. You are confident identifying who needs to be involved in the design process and bringing them on the journey.

Willing to challenge the status quo 
You ask curious questions and seek the best way to deliver impact and outcomes while considering strategic goals and organisational constraints. 

Proactive and adaptable 
You spot opportunities and can take the initiative to adapt your approach to new information and changing circumstances.

You should have xxperience designing the end-to-end journey of services whether as a Service Designer or in a related role with transferrable skills. With the ability to select, plan and execute appropriate research and design methods and tools, you should be able to deliver high quality design artefacts such as journey maps and service blueprints. 

You should be comfortable creating and testing prototypes at varying levels of fidelity to suit project needs and have excellent workshop planning and facilitation skills. You should also be comfortable using and learning new whiteboarding, prototyping and design software and tools. 

There are no specific qualifications needed for this role. We welcome applications from people who don’t have a formal design qualification but have relevant transferable skills and experiences.

Are you a Qualified Accountant looking to use your skills and accounting knowledge to help address the biggest health issue in the UK today?  

We are looking for a Financial Accountant (Tax), to join our busy Finance team as we progress our finance transformation journey, including the embedding of a new ERP finance system, Unit 4 (Agresso).

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that we remain compliant with all VAT and corporation tax legislation. More broadly, you will also work closely with many colleagues across finance to support the delivery of high quality statutory audit/ month end closes and finance processes more generally.

You will be responsible for:

- Preparation and submission of timely and accurate VAT and corporation tax returns.
- Proactively training and guiding teams and individuals across the society with respect to tax issues
- Working closely with the rest of the finance team to successfully embed a new finance system and improve controls and processes

This is a homeworking role, but you will be required to travel to attend some meetings and team-days, so you must reside in the UK, have the correct right to work documents to work in the UK and be comfortable/willing to travel to our flagship offices.
About you

- Significant experience of preparing VAT returns including application of partial exemption rules, ideally in the charity sector
- Qualified Accountant (ideally ACA/ ACCA)
- Extensive experience in a Financial Accountant role or similar
- Industry experience in an organisation of similar size, scale, and complexity
- Experience and knowledge of Unit4 ERPx or equivalent cloud-based system
- Able to demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset, strong initiative and good judgement
- Motivated by joining a committed finance team and delivering an ambitious transformation plan

Person Specification

- Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Excellent IT skills and extensive experience/knowledge on using Microsoft packages
- Work collaboratively and be able to prioritise your workload effectively and remain solutions focused
- Excellent organisational and timekeeping skills
- Supports colleagues to ensure team deadlines are met
- Very self-motivated but know when to ask for help
