The Access & Participation Project Coordinator is a brand new, exciting role designed to support LSESU’s work around access and participation.
 

The successful candidate will play a lead role in identifying areas where there is a need/opportunity for targeted interventions to support the experiences of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, before putting then translating these into evidence-based proposals.
 

The Access & Participation Project Coordinator will be responsible for designing, implementing and delivering these programmes, as well as for reporting back on them and proactively seeking ways of driving continuous improvement.
 

The role will also oversee the delivery of the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Mentoring Scheme. This landmark programme, that was last year nominated at the National Diversity Awards, pairs students from ethnic minority backgrounds with LSE alumni, who provide the former with mentoring and support during their studies.
 

The successful person will be responsible for reviewing the programme and seeking to build upon its fledgling success to ensure it is bigger, better and more impactful than ever.
 

This role will also involve close working with stakeholders at LSE, especially those working on the delivery of LSE’s Access & Participation Plan (APP).
 

You would be joining a fantastic and friendly Advice Team, consisting of the Advice Caseworker and Advice Manager, that sits within the wider Student Voice Department, and which together oversees all of the Union’s advice, policy, democratic, campaigning and representation work.

We are looking for two Training and Education Leads to work for an exciting organisation, one permanent and one parental cover (6 months).

About the role:

We have two events-based roles to support our training and development courses. These courses are delivered either face-to-face or hybrid and are often delivered by a team of the organisation’s members. We use tools such as WebEx, MS Teams and Slido to support the delivery. There is an agreed schedule for the rest of 2024 for our public (open) training plus some bespoke, in-house training to be agreed upon with clients. We are an exceptional organisation, providing one voice for all those affected by rare and less common cancers.  Historically, these cancers have been underrepresented and under-funded.  Today, they represent 47% of people diagnosed with cancer, but 55% of all cancer deaths – a hidden majority.  Cancer52’s aim is to change this by taking the collective voice of our members to those who influence cancer policy, research, services and treatment.

Cancer52 is recognised for its strong convening role, bringing together our 115 member charities with organisations in industry, government, the NHS and other stakeholders to address the inequalities faced by patients with rare and less common cancers.  Our reputation is strong and we are in a unique position to provide a common voice for these underrepresented cancers.  The figures for people with these cancers are challenging and there is much work to do.

After a hugely successful tenure during which Cancer52’s size and influence has grown dramatically, our current CEO is retiring from full time work in July. The Board of Trustees is now seeking to appoint a successor to build on the successes and achievements of recent years.

To be our next Chief Executive, you will be a talented leader, able to motivate and empower others  and develop strong internal and external stakeholder relationships. You will also be an inspiring and authentic individual who is passionate, confident and engaging as the key spokesperson of the organisation and a representative of the diverse Cancer52 membership.

You will be capable of influencing decisions at senior levels of government, in the NHS and in partner organisations operating in the fields of cancer research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment. As our Chief Executive, your role is to be a key proponent of the campaigning and influencing drive of the charity, setting the overall strategy and vision for the organisation.

In addition to the core management competencies required, the role requires demonstrable leadership which will inspire others, along with a comprehensive understanding of Cancer52’s purpose and the problems faced by those charities and organisations representing the rare and less common cancer communities.

Effective networking will be a key skill set, and will enable you to actively seek out, engage and establish productive relationships with political decision makers, NHS leadership and charity CEOs to further our goals.  Your approach will be collaborative, motivating stakeholders to engage with our work.

This is a critical senior role in the organisation, reporting to the CEO. The role is responsible for managing the organisation’s programmes across 3 locations in Sub Saharan Africa and South East Asia, managing 10 personnel. The position provides leadership on community-led investigations and evidence gathering and works closely with the Senior Management Team (SMT) on critical areas including fundraising and strategic development.   

The priority for this role is the safe and high quality performance of projects. The balance between ‘doing’ and ‘managing’ in this role varies depending on available resources for each project, and the ability to create competent teams to delegate to.
 

Location: UK, France or Thailand preferred. Remote applicants considered.

Package: Pay is dependent on location.  The UK salary of £62,000 plus pension contribution will be converted using ICSC scales. All locations receive 28 days annual leave, counselling support and annual wellbeing days.
 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• The development and implementation of strategy and annual plans for the organisation’s direct programming, and its alignment with organisational strategy.
• Responsible for the relevant team’s human resources, staff welfare, safety and security, and risk management. 
• The safety and quality of operational practices including data collection on the ground, secure data storage and transfer and proper financial management of the project including procurement practices.
• Responsible for the relevant team’s financial and spending strategy and financial management.
• Ensuring all aspects of the role’s work advances diversity, equality and inclusion.
• Actively contributing networking, ideas and concept note drafting to the Fundraising Team, with a particular focus on building the project funding and teams that will enable this role to grow and evolve.

• Coordinate closely with the Senior Director – Innovation where areas of work and organisational improvement projects overlap.

Programmes

• Design and oversee the relevant operations and project workplans, ensuring projects are delivered safely and to a high degree of quality.
• Oversight of project’s design, objectives and goals and their budget.
• Cultivate a management culture that is performance-based, supportive and collegial.
• Provide ongoing support and mentoring to direct reports, including through the annual performance review process. 
• Work with project teams to jointly identify and make available learning and development opportunities for them and their teams. 
• Administrative oversight for projects and their staff, including the review of expenses, annual leave, salary/benefits etc.
• Represent the organisation in relevant areas in relation to programmatic partners such as media, lawyers, diplomats, NGOs and civil society as well as to donors and governments.
• Assist in developing our methodology for investigation and monitoring within projects, including working closely with the Senior Director – Strategy to ensure alignment with the Impact Strategy.

• Lead the development and implementation of the philanthropic and corporate fundraising strategies, working alongside the Head of Institutional Giving & Partnerships to develop an overarching departmental strategy that allows for close collaboration;
• Proactively identify new prospects/supporters, securing mid/major donor support and corporate income in line with team income targets;
• Foster a culture of relationship-led fundraising, focused on stewardship and retention of existing donors that allows for long-term, increasing levels of support;
• Provide strategic leadership to the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team (4), supporting professional development and a culture of learning/collaboration.

Our social care client needs a Floating Support Worker to provide housing related support to vulnerable ex homeless clients, to ensure they maintain their tenancy and get them ready for an independent lifestyle. You will be supporting 20-25 clients around London, the frequency of how often you will need to visit each service user will depend on their level of need. The clients themselves have a variety of support needs ranging from low to high, all of which are ex-rough sleepers and have a variety of support needs including substance misuse, mental health issues and low indpendence. You will need to demonstrate patience, perseverance, and motivation to really get the best out of your case load, in this social care position

Duties:
