Main duties of the job

Overview of the Facilities Management role and the team

We are searching for a qualified Facilities Manager to work alongside maintenance, domestic services, and grounds staff to ensure our buildings and grounds are well maintained, compliant, clean, and safe. The Facilities Manager oversees all aspects of building functions and in responsible for the safety and functionality of all facilities. Duties include running routine safety inspections, corresponding with service contractors, planning maintenance and regulatory compliance work, maintaining records, and supervising facilities staff. The Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) works with affected communities to pursue innovative legal actions across borders to challenge states and other powerful actors involved in human rights violations and systemic injustice. Our actions address the most pressing instances of human rights concern and they fall within the following themes: War and occupation; accountability and supply chains; environmental and economic justice; and migration and border violence.

Since our establishment in 2016, we have developed legal strategies directly addressing human rights impacts in over 23 countries and territories. About the Role 

GLAN has a small yet powerful fundraising team.  Our Development Lead excels in relationship fundraising, having forged multi-year funding partnerships with aligned Trusts & Foundations and major donors. Additionally, our Fundraising Officer has successfully established GLAN’s individual giving programme, leveraging crowdfunding and nurturing potential regular givers.

Job purpose 

As GLAN’s Philanthropy Manager, you will support the launch of our new three year fundraising strategy.  The Philanthropy Manager role is crucial in leveraging the momentum gained from our existing fundraising successes. Income generation 

• Philanthropic Giving Programme Strategy Development: Create and implement strategies to secure new major gifts from high-net-worth individuals, Trusts & Foundations, and corporations.

• Relationship Management: Build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with major donors, ensuring a robust pipeline of high-value prospects. 

• Fundraising: Secure significant donations (5 and 6 figure gifts) from individuals and organisations.

Who is The Charlie Waller Trust?
The Charlie Waller Trust was created by the Waller family in 1997 in response to the loss of their son and brother Charlie who died by suicide. We have since become one of the UK’s most respected mental health charities for children and young people. Our overarching mission is to educate those with responsibility for children and young people - parents and carers, teachers, college and university staff, and employers - about children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

The Youth Ambassador Role: We are seeking UK-based Youth Ambassadors (16-25 year olds) to join our Youth Involvement Team. We wish to appoint people that can bring diverse experiences in education, work or community in order to help create and shape the work that we do. The Youth Ambassadors role is about prioritising youth representation, identity and community across our charitable activity and beyond. The Charlie Waller Team will provide appropriate training, guidance, and ongoing support to those selected.

What will the role involve?

How much time am I expected to commit?
We expect those joining the Youth Ambassador group to join on a freelance basis for one year from February 2025 to January 2026. 
Hours are subject to change each month but on average we would plan for you to work for CWT for up to 14 hours (2 days) per month. The majority of the working hours offered can be arranged as flexibly as possible around your other commitments

Will I be paid?Ambassadors will be remunerated for their time at a delivery and desk rate of £15 per hour for work both online and in person. 

Desk work includes training preparation, resource coproduction or review, attending meetings and involvement in focus groups. Delivery work includes training delivery, public speaking at an event about the work of the Trust or hosting or being interviewed on the ambassador podcast.

• Contribute to the delivery of direct marketing campaigns (supporter and external appeal mailings), including preparing appeal briefs, kick-off meetings, liaising with colleagues, external copywriter and external agency/mailing house
• Help develop and grow the joy bringer (regular giving) programme through the use of new data insights, reporting, anniversary gifts and online events
• Ensure individual supporter relationships (including HLDs) are appropriately managed, thanked and asked
• Support key supporter/donor care management processes and programmes
• Support the expansion of digital fundraising campaigns
• Support the development of other fundraising opportunities including legacies / in-memorium giving, emergency appeals and projects e.g. for supporter-sponsored events

The Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us in the position of Energy Adviser, to work on either a full or part time basis. Job share applications are also welcome. This role provides an exciting and rewarding opportunity to help the charity build its profile amongst regional stakeholders whilst delivering projects that seek to bring an end to fuel poverty and to the misery of cold homes that is experienced by over 6.5 million households in the UK.

NEA’s Energy Advisers are empathetic, polite and have good listening skills but are also knowledgeable, assertive, and confident. Their main role is to provide one to one advice to clients referred through the charity’s Warm and Safe Homes helpline and to deliver energy advice presentations to groups.  They also get involved in a range of tasks to support these activities.  Energy Advisers sit within the Communities Directorate and are part of a dynamic and caring team of professionals who go the extra mile to support their clients, some of whom may be in difficult circumstances.

What you will need to succeed

Working within our Communities Directorate you will have demonstrable experience of delivering Energy Advice and helping others.  Therefore, it is vital that you have empathy, confidence and knowledge of the issues facing vulnerable low-income households.

You will have knowledge and understanding of the environmental, social and economic problems of deprived areas and the roles of the public, private and voluntary sectors in tackling them.

You will also have knowledge of assistance available for energy efficiency improvements to low-income households.

You will be an excellent communicator, with proven experience and understanding of how to effectively address the energy needs of low income, vulnerable or disadvantaged householders – with the desire to make a positive difference to people’s lives.

The successful candidate will operate within Yorkshire and the Humber, East Midlands or Eastern region of England. Home working and office-based locations are available depending on your proximity to a NEA office. Preferences will be discussed with candidates at interview. Hybrid working is subject to necessary H&S and GDPR checks. Post holders must be resident within the UK and be able to provide their Right to Work in the UK. 

 We are offering:

• £28,163 – £33,205 (FTE) – Scale 5-6, Points 12-22 (plus £3,300 London Weighting if applicable). New appointments are usually made at the starting point of the scale.
• 11½% non-contributory pension.
• 25 days annual leave plus 3 additional days in between Christmas New Year Period when our offices close; plus, all public holidays per annum for full time staff, pro-rata for part time staff.
