Role description

The Communities Lead is a critical role in developing and delivering the Centre for Excellence in Community Investment, facilitating its national and local thematic networks, engaging with colleagues across and beyond the social housing sector and identifying potential opportunities for collaboration. We’re all about fostering communities of practice and supporting the sector to have a transformative impact in local communities it works alongside across the UK.

Working closely with the Head of Communities and Projects, the Communities and Network Lead will ensure that the activities of the Centre’s networks align with and inform the overarching strategy of the Centre for Excellence in Community Investment. Our networks are spaces for learning, collaboration, problem solving and building positive social impact.

As well as providing a light touch secretariat function to the networks, the post-holder will coordinate activities, identify potential speakers and liaise with network chairs to deliver programmes of work that engage and generate impact.

The Communities and Network Lead will be comfortable representing HACT and the Centre externally, identifying emerging trends and working with the Head of Communities and Projects, and other HACT colleagues, to support the delivery of a programme of work that delivers lasting impact across the social housing sector at a national level.

Key responsibilities

 • Leading the development and delivery of the Centre for Excellence in Community Investment’s numerous networks, involving people across the housing sector in agreeing each network’s purpose, governance, membership and activity.

• Work closely with the Head of Communities to ensure that network activities align with and inform the overarching strategy and aims of the Centre for Excellence in Community Investment.

• Identify new opportunities for collaboration, working with network members to understand the outcomes they hope to achieve and with the Head of Communities and Projects and the Head of Business Development to develop potential project proposals.

• Developing and delivering project plans for each network, collating relevant metrics in order to report on progress internally and to project funders, as required.

• Support network groups, organising meetings, liaising with participants, involving them in key decisions, reporting on progress, shaping workplans.

• Identify new individuals, groups and organisations that will be of interest to the networks.

• Identify needs and opportunities across the community investment sector for capacity building support, consultancy and subscriptions.

• Collaborate closely with HACT’s marketing colleagues to share regular news and opportunities with our partners and to help share the stories of community investment.

• Represent HACT and the Centre in external sector events and other relevant forums

• Actively building your profile across the sector through speaking engagements, posts to social media, and HACT communications channels, by working with colleagues to identify and develop content out of your insights from network meetings.

Person specification

 Essential:

• Experience of group facilitation and effective chairing of meetings in multi-agency settings.

Role description

 The Head of Social Value (HoSV) is HACT’s specialist subject matter expert on social value and impact measurement. The post holder will be able to clearly explain what social value means and have knowledge of a range of impact measurement methodologies and how they can be applied in different contexts.

The HoSV will ensure that HACT maintains its position at the forefront of social value and impact measurement thinking, constantly identifying areas for innovation and development. The post holder will also build and strengthen relationships with customers by providing quality social value consultancy, training and research.

The HoSV will have regular contact with HACTs strategic partner, SImetrica-Jacobs, ensuring there is 2-way dialogue based on market intelligence, understanding competitors and any other feedback which will positively support HACTs position in the social value space.

Working at the cutting edge of how social impact measurement is used within the built environment, the post holder will have an enthusiasm to lead new thinking and the ability to be flexible, adaptable and to thrive on the challenge of working in a developing area and work closely with the Head of Services and Head of Customer to develop the product map.

The HoSV will be the ‘go to’ person within HACT for social value and will represent HACT as an expert in this field in the sector.

Responsibilities

 • Be the subject matter expert for social value and impact measurement at HACT, providing guidance and expertise internally to HACT colleagues and externally to customers. This will involve leading on the development of guidance materials for implementing HACT’s Social Value Banks and measurement methodology and practice notes.

• Deliver social value services to customers at the right level of quality, ensuring customer needs are met.

• Identify opportunities to enhance HACT’s social value services, expand HACT’s Social Value Banks and provide more value to customers.

• Identify business development opportunities for social value services within the housing sector, built environment and beyond.

• Build and manage existing relationships with partners, Associates, and other stakeholders, working with these partners to support delivery, information flows, and engagement with customers.

• Continually keep own expertise up-to-date and current through market scanning and analysis and use this insight to support improvements to the HACT offer.

Role description

 The Research Programme Manager (RPM) is a key member of the HACT Services Team, with responsibility for successfully managing the delivery of research and consultancy projects across HACT’s Services portfolio. HACT’s Services portfolio has four key workstream, including: social value, health, data and housing and communities.

The RPM role involves the design and development of research and consultancy projects; set up and ongoing management of these projects; and effective engagement with HACT colleagues and Associates, partners and other stakeholders to ensure that work is delivered to a high standard of quality. The ideal candidate will bring strong programme management skills, interest in HACT’s areas of work, and a proven track record of managing research and consultancy projects throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

 Key responsibilities include:

• Leading on the design, set up, management and delivery of multiple research and consultancy projects across the HACT Services portfolio.

• Implementing robust project management processes and protocols, in line with best practice. This will involve routinely reviewing risks, issues and progress and taking actions as necessary to ensure minimum impact on project deadlines.

• Developing and implementing appropriate research methodologies, evaluation

strategies and research tools and analysis into research and consultancy projects.

• Leading on the production of high-quality research and consultancy project outputs, including formal outputs, informal progress updates to customers/partners etc, with input from the Head of Services and other colleagues as relevant.

• Providing support to project teams, including Associates, to ensure work is delivered to time and quality expectations, and within budget. This will involve coordinating and managing resources and information flows and ensuring quality assurance process take place on project outputs.

• Liaising with customers to set up and deliver projects, including leading on initial scoping work and development of project plans, progress meetings with customers and functioning as the nominated key project contact at HACT.

Hours:
This is a part time position of 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE), worked between Monday and Friday over a minimum of three days, with the working pattern to be agreed.

From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing.

During the four-day week pilot, this position will remain at 22.5 hours per week, worked between Monday and Thursday over a minimum of three days, with the working pattern to be agreed. With the organisation's full-time hours changed to 30 from 37.5 during the four-day week pilot, this role will be 0.75 FTE during the trial, with the salary increased accordingly to £26,903.

This will constitute a temporary change to the successful candidate's contractual terms. If a return to a five-day week is decided, the FTE and salary will revert to 0.6 and the equivalent pro rata amount of £21,523. In the event that THL UK considers before the end of the trial period that the trial is having an adverse operational impact, we reserve the right to bring the trial to end on one month’s notice.

The Role

• Manage a small team of two to create and deliver inspiring multi-channel fundraising initiatives and campaigns to raise over c£700k from individual donors
• Develop and implement an effective stewardship process
• Develop and implement plans to increase repeat giving and maximise potential from one-off donations.
• Work with the Philanthropy and Partnerships team in the development of a mid-value giving programme
• Produce fundraising campaign briefs setting out objectives and KPIs

The Candidate

• At least three years working in an Individual Giving fundraising environment
• Knowledge and experience of a wide range of giving platforms and working knowledge of CRM databases
• Ability to develop, plan and implement fundraising plans and strategies to meet income targets and deadlines
• Ideally line management experience
• Experience of writing inspiring and compelling appeal copy

You need to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to motivate yourself and others and manage your time efficiently. Self-motivation is crucial as this is a home-based role with lots of virtual meetings. Experience working with or being a volunteer is essential and experience of delivering training would equip you well for the role. The ability to support people with adverse lived experiences in a grounded manner and be able to provide support within professional boundaries is very important. Giving and receiving feedback, gathering data and other evidence to inform service development, and exercising reflective practice are all essential attributes.

The role is home-based, and you will be provided with all office equipment and a travel budget as needed. In order to manage your time and travel effectively you will need to be comfortable forming and developing relationships online, attending and hosting meetings via zoom or MS Teams (this is both business meetings with partner organisations and mutual aid recovery meetings). You will be required to conduct national travel and occasional overnight stays, visiting SMART meetings and facilitators in your area delivering a package of support to facilitators and our partners, helping the charity to grow by helping to generate new business. There are also team development residental trips away with the SMART team every year.

In addition, you will contribute to the global development of SMART Recovery via veteran orientated projects identified by SMART Recovery International. It is essential that you can travel and work flexibly to meet the needs of the role.

This role will be pivotal in contributing to FEI’s communications strategy, focusing on high-quality content creation across social media, personal stories and other written, designed and video formats.  

Scope of the role: 

The Digital Content & Communications Officer is responsible for creating content across FEI’s communications channels, inspiring individuals organisations alike to get involved in the face equality movement. 

This is an exciting new role within a fast-paced, growing organisation. The ideal candidate will be creative, passionate about communications, with attention to detail. The role will be varied, working across campaigns, partnerships, storytelling and our membership programmes. With a primary focus on social content, this role will also contribute to campaign development, newsletters and blogs. 

There will be freedom for creativity and trying out new ideas, with a focus on personal development through training and ongoing support by working closely with the Campaigns Manager and the wider team. 

With a remote team working across the UK we are committed to providing flexible hours, but there must be crossover on Monday-Thursday mornings to align with the other team members.

Responsibilities 
 

• Social media – Written, graphic and video content to be produced to support FEI’s mission. With the support from the Campaigns Manager, the Communications Officer will lead on developing engaging content to amplify the voices of the facial difference community. Accessible content standards are essential.  
   

• Graphic/video editing – Using tools such as Canva or CapCut to create and edit content.  
   

• Website updates – All FEI staff have access and responsibility to collectively update our WordPress site in line with their role.
   

• Copywriting – Creating content for social media primarily with the addition of blogs and other written marketing materials on occasion.  
   

• Engagement – Community management and engagement via online channels, including influencer outreach.  
   

• Monitoring and evaluation – using analytics to track impact. 
   

• Ad hoc tasks: Supporting the team with ad hoc administrative and communications duties as requested. Member meetings and events on occasion may be required outside of normal working hours.

Past experience: 

• Experience of producing content for digital channels is essential.  

• Experience of copywriting is essential.  

• Experience of design programs such as Canva or Photoshop is essential. 

• Experience/knowledge of the social justice and equality movements, particularly those devoted to the disability and disfigurement community, is desirable but not essential.

Knowledge and skills: 

• Excellent communication skills – both written and oral, and the ability to communicate to our diverse global audience with care and professionalism. 

• Good interpersonal skills in order to collaborate with volunteers, staff, members and our wider community.

• Good knowledge of brand guidelines, tone of voice, and adhering to overarching strategy.
