As Policy and Research Officer, you will play a key role in advancing our advocacy campaigns through research reports, data analysis, and enhanced collaboration with key stakeholders. Job Description 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Support the charity’s role the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Radiotherapy (APPG-RT): plan and organise events and meetings and maintain regular communication with members. 

• Monitor and research parliamentary developments, consultations, and legislation of interest to RTUK, producing briefings aligned with the charity’s objectives. 

• Conduct stakeholder mapping to identify and engage key political figures, including policymakers, parliamentary body leaders, officials, and advisers. 

• Maintain and develop RTUK’s current policy positions, and create new ones as required. 

• Collaborate with partner organisations to support the strategic development and delivery of campaigns and public engagement initiatives. 

• Foster and maintain relationships with key parliamentarians, staff, and partner organisations critical to RTUK’s campaigns. 

• Develop and conduct in-depth research and robust data analysis to inform policy and advocacy efforts.

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions. The initiative has been working in different forms for over a decade and our work receives worldwide coverage and widespread acclaim. 

Degrees’ programmatic work builds capacity through research grants, workshops, and community-building—all across the Global South. The initiative has been steadily growing since becoming a charity, and we plan on continuing to expand. Over the next few years, Degrees will offer grants to research teams in new countries and disciplines, support the scientists as they develop into regional leaders, and keep building a global community of experts.

The Staff Scientist position offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to move into or advance in the nonprofit sector while helping scale-up the organisation’s work. They will get to work with some the world’s leading SRM experts both inside and outside of Degrees and play a central role in building an initiative that is changing the field of SRM. 

Job purpose 

The Degrees Modelling Fund was launched in 2018 and has grown into the largest SRM research programme in the world. It supports almost 150 scientists across the Global South as they model how SRM could affect the climate in their regions, and they are becoming influential leaders in the SRM conversation. 

This is a good start, but our plans are much more ambitious. We now want to support the Southern teams to move to the next level in their development. National projects will evolve into regional research programmes—in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, for instance. These regional programmes will inform policy processes by writing reports and policy briefs. Centralised downscaling and bias correction will reduce the barriers to SRM research across the Global South, allowing more countries to do their own SRM research and increasing existing teams’ output.

Degrees’ new Staff Scientist will be central to this. As an expert in climate impacts modelling, they will help the teams develop regional research projects. They will support Southern scientists to get access to the data that they need, will advise Degrees on how we can best support Southern SRM research, and develop new work streams as needed. In all of this, the Staff Scientist will work closely with the 26 modelling teams that Degrees supports across the Global South, plus our range of partners and volunteer research collaborators. In this, their work will be central to the next stage of Degrees’ development, helping to ensure that developing countries have the evidence and expertise to evaluate SRM and to play a central role in research and discussions. 

About the position  

The position will appeal to someone with a strong academic track record who is looking to use their skills and training outside of academia—for an organisation that is looking to use research to change the world, rather than just for research’s sake. Because the right candidate may not wish to leave academia entirely, the position may be less than full time, which would be negotiated (but not less than 60% time at Degrees). 

Specific responsibilities include: 

• Plan and implement the new lines of work, above, and to develop new ones in cooperation with other staff members, Degrees-funded researchers, and volunteers; 

• Organise and facilitate regionalisation workshops approximately each quarter; 

• Manage and deepen relationships with regional SRM experts; 

• Work with a future science writer to deliver the annual scientific reports;

The Media and PR Officer will have previous experience of working in a Media and PR role. Are you passionate about supporting the Muslim community in the UK? Do you want to use your skills to empower small grassroot groups? Can you lead and support charities to become more fundable? 

We are looking for Charity Support Officer to support AWN with delivery, understanding of the grassroots charity sector and management of our current services and to build upon our existing database. If you are proactive, organised and enjoy building relationships with different people, we want you to hear from you.

Location: Remote with some travel 

Hours: Full-time (35 hours a week) 

Salary: Starting salary £26k 

About the role 

The Charity Support Worker (CSO) will be the face of AWN and the first point of contact for grassroots organisations looking for support and guidance. Expanding AWN’s existing reach and building the awareness of AWN’s services as we try to support as many not for profits working with Muslim communities in the UK as possible. 

We desire someone with: 

• Knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing Muslim community living in the UK. 

• Knowledge of not-for-profits/charities 

• Knowledge of Grantmaking sector /Funding opportunities 

• Experience of working in small, dynamic teams

• Experience supporting grassroots charities and understanding the contexts in which they operate.

• Have some knowledge of area of work but not exclusive to: 

• Women

• Health & Wellbeing 

• Youth

• Homeless & Poverty 

• Family Services 

• Sport/ fitness 

• Religious settings 

• Crime/Gangs 

• Prisoners and Ex-Offenders 

• Refugees/Asylum seekers 

• Many more… 

Key Responsibilities but not limited to: 

• Reaching out and building relationships with organisations who meet our criteria (charities, grantmakers, other organisations, local Council across the UK 

• Carry out an initial needs assessment to identify NFPs organisational strengths and weaknesses and funding needs.

• Develop and oversee an action plan based on needs assessment. 

• Lead networking sessions and assist in organising AWN events 

• Promoting AWN’s services and activities 

• Maintain CRM records, write case studies, obtain feedback and contribute to service development. 

• Managing projects to help grow the network 

• To assist and liaise with Bid Writer and additional staff members joining the team where there may be some crossover tasks 

• Attend networking events to promote AWN’s work and services. 

• Other tasks which are relevant to the role as AWN grows 

Skills set/Person spec: 

• Experience working for an infrastructure org or similar 

• Ability to manage workload well 

• Ability to communicate well to stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and cultures 

• Ability to take initiative and work independently 

• Experience in governance, understanding of writing bid applications, and any other applicable charity service 

• Experience and ability to speak in large groups 

• Excellent written and verbal skills and able to communicate with people whose English is a second language

Responsibilities of our Complaints Manager:

• The Complaints Manager will be responsible for embedding Cats Protection’s new charity-wide ‘Complaints Policy & Procedure’.

About the Customer Complaints team:  

• We sit within the Marketing & Income Generation directorate
• This new team will oversee the day-to-day complaints against Cats Protection. The team will also support Cats Protection’s Subject Matter Experts in handling specialist, technical complaints through regular training on delivering an excellent service, expert advice on triaging complaints, monitoring complaint reporting and learnings to internal and external stakeholders to pinpoint improvements.

What we’re looking for in our Complaints Manager:

• Extensive experience in overseeing the management of the complaints process and complaint responses, ensuring an effective resolution and high level of customer service delivered, preferably in a not-for-profit and/or multisite organisation
• Proven experience of working in a customer-focused and professional environment managing operational processes effectively
• Proven experience or working with stakeholders at all levels including senior leadership with confidence and integrity
• Experience of managing databases & systems for data entry and generation of reporting, managing the roll out of a new system would also be preferable
