We now have several vacancies for Trustees. This is an opportunity to help transform the lives of many people doubly disadvantaged by poverty and stigma. To this end, you would be expected to:
- First and foremost, ensure the good governance of the charity.
- Prepare for and participate actively in Board Meetings.
- Provide proactive advisory support to the charity’s Executive Director and staff.
- Empathise with our faith foundation, vision and values.
- Advocate for the charity and support its fundraising efforts.
More specifically, Advantage Africa’s Trustees:
- Ensure that we comply with our governing document, charity & company law, company law and relevant legislation.
- Ensure that we pursue the charitable objects defined in our governing document.
- Maintain oversight of our budget and our financial health, stability and sustainability.
- Ensure that we use and manage our assets and financial, human and material resources effectively and wisely.
- Identify and monitor risks and ensure appropriate, timely remedial action is taken to reduce and respond if needed.
- Safeguard the reputation and values of Advantage Africa.
- Contribute to setting strategic direction and evaluating performance in line with Advantage Africa’s charitable objects.
- Develop Advantage Africa’s policies & procedures in line with established good practice and ensure they're implemented.
- Devote the necessary time, skill, care and effort to the role.
- Monitor the performance of the Executive Director.
- Follow our Trustees’ Code of Conduct and act in the best interests of Advantage Africa at all times.
- Provide support in other strategic areas such as fundraising, staffing, partnerships, policy according to their skills.

Duties of Trustees & Directors:
- Support and provide advice on Change Agents UK’s vision, goals, strategy and activities.
- Actively promote and champion the work of the Change Agents UK, amplifying messages, campaigns and supporting our growth
- Approve (as part of the Board and with input from the Executive Team) financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.

There will be times when the Trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve reading and commenting on board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
Terms of appointment
Terms of office
- Trustees are usually appointed for an initial 2-year term of office, with renewals thereafter agreed at the AGM
- This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses (for example, travel to and from CAUK events or meetings) can be reimbursed.
Time commitment
- Attending 4 Board meetings annually and our AGM – these are usually held on Zoom, but we also welcome the opportunity to meet up in person when possible
- Attending an Annual Strategy Day
- 3-4 hours per month preparation and support time
- During the first 6 months of appointment, attendance at 2-3 of our workshops (delivered remotely, expected time commitment is 6-8 hours in total)
Committee membership
Ad hoc and occasional support through working groups and / or support to the executive team.

Panellists will inform and influence the support we offer to older people and help us deliver services that older people need and value.
What impact does this role have?
Our Panellists will help us to shape our services and our strategy. They will support us to make sure that people know about our charity, that our services have a positive impact on the lives of older people, and that we are a valued, local resource for older people to rely on.
What are the responsibilities of the role?
• To support our charity and its aims and to act as an ambassador for our services and projects and the wider Age UK network.
• To ensure our charity is aware of emerging needs and issues related to older people in the City and County that could influence future planning.
• To represent the wider community of older people and their interests – including topics such as social, health, wealth, and longer-term needs.

What is the time commitment?
• The charity holds four meetings per year (Including the AGM), with each meeting lasting around 2 hours.There will be a mix of in-person and online meetings.
• In addition, Panellists need to set aside a minimum of 1 hours reading time before each meeting.
• Depending upon agreed actions, Panellists may be asked to dedicate some time to activities within the community, or for the charity outside of the meetings.
• Should exceptional circumstances arise, there may be a need for additional meetings, but this will be a rare occurrence.
• A chair and vice-chair will be elected by the members every 3 years and holders may serve a maximum of 6 years in total in either role.
What training will you be given?
You will be given a basic induction to the Charity and some basic compliance training to allow you to undertake your role.

We are partnering Music Therapy Works (MTW) an independent charity based in the West Midlands, whose mission is to deliver comprehensive music therapy services for individuals, groups and communities in a wide range of circumstances.
MTW provides music therapy to support and enhance communication, self-expression, and wellbeing. They work in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, care homes and hospices to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.
We are seeking a new Trustee for MTW to join their current board and support the CEO to bring new insight and skills to set and approve the strategic direction of the charity.

- Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact people’s lives and make a real difference to our community.
- Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run. They play a vital role in helping to define and develop the work of the charity.
- Trustees work alongside the management team, using their skills and experience to help the charity to define and achieve its strategic aims. But they do not undertake the day-to-day work of running the organisation.
- Trustees are also Directors of MTW as it is both a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
- Trustees give their time on a voluntary basis. They are not paid fees, but they can claim reasonable expenses.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Counselling Service for a Volunteer Children & Young People’s Therapist in our Waltham Forest Therapeutic Market Place.
We are looking for a reliable and empathic Volunteer CYP Therapist to provide therapeutic, trauma-informed counselling to children and young people (CYP) residing in Waltham Forest, who have witnessed or experienced trauma or abuse.
About the role
You will provide a safe and secure space and develop trusting relationships with children and young people to support them to process difficult early experiences and decrease the negative impact that these experiences have had on their lives. You will work creatively using different therapeutic tools, and develop relationships with parents and carers and other professionals when necessary.
Volunteers will:
- Deliver safe, short to medium term trauma-informed therapeutic support to CYP who are impacted by trauma due to domestic abuse that they experienced.
- Maintain electronic case files and records according to Solace requirements.
- Promote an integrated working multi-agency approach with Adult and Childrens Service and other external stakeholders as necessary.
- Attend clinical supervision in line with the requirements of your accredited body.
- Ensure consistent excellence in service provision and adhere to your accrediting organisation’s code of ethics.
- To support the child or young person to develop positive relationships, social skills and healthy behaviour
- To promote social inclusion, encourage independence and develop personal resilience of parent/carer affected by violence and with multiple needs
- To work in collaboration with relevant professionals and organisations
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified dynamic CYP Therapist who has 150 clinical hours, ideally with prior experience in providing direct and dedicated therapeutic support to children and young people who have been a victim of VAWG.
The ideal candidate will also:
- Be registered with the relevant accrediting body e.g., the British Association of Art Therapists; British Association of Drama Therapists; BACP; UKCP; HCPC or equivalent.
- Have demonstrable experience of providing therapeutic support to children and young people of various ages.
- Have the ability to provide appropriate therapeutic interventions within time limits.
- Have a sound understanding of gender-based violence, with focus on domestic and sexual abuse and its effect on CYP, including the effects of intersectional features and barriers.

Volunteer Opportunity
We are currently looking for enthaustic, dynamic and supportive volunteers aged 17-25 to work with our young people’s peer support group, Peers2Pals.
Peers2Pals is a friendly and welcoming peer support community, for people to help each other with managing their mental wellbeing and reduce loneliness and isolation.
Our uplifting and fun activities provide the opportunity to socialise and share experiences in a non-judgemental and completely confidential setting. Our activities are based on the Five Ways to Wellbeing: To Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, To Learn and To Give.
We offer a range of activities across East Berkshire during the day, evenings, and some weekends. Our youth volunteers play an integral role in our service, running activities, such as a bowling group, meal and games evenings and quiz nights. We are hoping to expand our team and reach more young people.
This role is a wonderful opportunity to facilitate an activity that will benefit the mental health and wellbeing of our members. If you have a skill, hobby, or interest you’d like to share, we’d love to hear about it! Volunteers must be comfortable in a group setting and building rapport with people from all walks of life.
An understanding of mental health is essential and lived experience is welcomed. All successful applicants will have completed our volunteer training, undertaken a DBS check, and provided 2 references. Volunteers will be expected to facilitate a peer support group for a minimum of 2 to 3 hours per month face to face or virtually, attend regular training and volunteer development sessions as required, and take part in monthly peer volunteer meetings with your coordinator and fellow volunteers. As a Friends in Need volunteer, you can claim travel expenses.

Parkinson’s doesn’t discriminate. Anyone can get it.
Despite this, evidence suggests where you live, your income, ethnicity or gender can impact when you’re diagnosed and the support and services you can access.
We want to change that. We can and must do more. We want to remove barriers so that everyone in our community can access the right support and services, tailored to their needs.

What you’ll do
Guided by the Parkinson’s community, we’ve shaped our strategy ‘Every Parkinson’s Journey’ for 2023 to 2026. Our strategic aims are focused on improving access to health and care; improving our community offer and continuing with our groundbreaking research.
We're a growing organisation with 605 employees, 4000 volunteers and a projected income of £43m. The Board of Trustees and its committees govern the charity with diligence and enthusiasm and make sure we're financially stable, well-run, and delivering what the Parkinson's community really needs.
Our trustees and independent committee members come from a wide range of backgrounds and have diverse experience, which we draw on to guide and oversee the charity’s work. Trustees share this responsibility both individually and collectively. This requires Trustees to contribute in an informed and active way to all aspects of the Board’s work.
What you’ll bring
To complement our collective skillset we are looking for a new Trustee to join the Board (currently comprising 13 Trustees) who is, or who has significant and recent experience as a Parkinson’s health and care professional in the UK, to help oversee the charity’s activities in health and social care.
We welcome applications from candidates, who can demonstrate the following:

Substantial specialist Parkinson’s clinical experience in a UK health or social care setting

Good understanding of wider issues and opportunities in UK health and social care, for example in:
- the delivery of services to people with Parkinson's and/or
- educating and developing the workforce

We’re looking for a motivated finance professional to provide financial direction to our local advice charity and help us improve our long-term financial sustainability. The Treasurer is an officer of the Trustee Board and not a paid member of staff. The purpose of the role is to ensure that the charity’s finances and supporting financial control systems are robust and comply with relevant regulations.
The role works closely with the Chair of the Trustee Board, the Chief Executive and the volunteer Financial Accountant.
The Treasurer is responsible for chairing the Finance sub-committee, including preparing the agenda and arranging for the production of the minutes of each quarterly meeting,
Treasurer main duties and responsibilities
Financial accounts
· Every quarter, review entries on Xero made by volunteer Financial Accountant (
· Review quarterly management accounts prepared by volunteer Financial Accountant before submitting report to the Trustee Board
· Ensure that year-end accounts are prepared to in compliance with SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) Accounting for Charities and submitted by the deadline to Charity Commission and Companies House, and make arrangements for them to be independently examined as required
Budgets and planning
· Prepare annual budget and obtain Trustee Board sign off each March
· Review and update forecast of annual outturn
Financial control and compliance
· Comply with the charity’s financial policies and procedures
·Liaise with the CEO to prepare costings for any funding bid applications
· Ensure capital expenditure authorisations and limits are followed, and prepare expenditure justifications where appropriate
· Ensure that money received is spend only on the purposes for which it was given and ensure that reports and accounts demonstrating this are submitted to funders
· Submit regular financial reports to national Citizens Advice as required, and meet all financial obligations of the Citizens Advice Membership scheme
Relationship with Trustee Board
· Provide financial advice as required to the Chair and Trustee Board
· Explain, guide and advise the Board on the key assumptions and financial implications of the budget, operational and strategic plans
· Keep the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities
· Ensure that all Board members have a clear understanding of the accounts presented at meetings
· Ensure that the organisation has an appropriate reserves policy and a realistic budget that meets the service’s needs
· Provide input to the risk register process
· Present accounts at the Annual General Meeting in an accessible way
· Chair the Finance sub-committee, preparing the agenda and arranging for the production of the minutes for each quarterly meeting
Treasury
· Act as key contact on the charity’s bank accounts
· Transfer money between savings bank accounts to optimise interest income
· Maximise the interest on savings by comparing available interest rates
· Review investments (in conjunction with other trustees)
· Review and update cheque signatory and electronic payment authorisation
· Authorise salaries and PAYE payments to HMRC
Other (annual)
· Review reserves policy
· Prepare salary review (in conjunction with Personnel Committee)
· Review office insurance policy
· Review Gift Aid claim prepared by volunteer Financial Accountant
