You will have:
- At least 3 years' experience in an HR managerial position.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Though we do not require you to be a native English speaker, you must be Fluent in English.
- Ability to work within organisational targets.
- IT Literacy, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- An understanding of HR-related processes and legislation.
- A CIPD qualification would be advantageous but is not essential depending on relevant experience.

Role description
St Albans & District Foodbank is looking for a Trustee with Human Resources experience. We currently have seven active Trustees and are looking for enthusiastic and talented people to join our Board.
The Foodbank serves the local community providing emergency food for those facing crisis. In the last 12 months we provided over 14,000 food parcels. We distribute food via ten weekly distribution centres that are run around the district by our committed volunteers. We currently have 7 part-time staff and over 130 active volunteers. We are more than a Foodbank as we offer wellbeing, signposting and advocacy services, both directly and in conjunction with other agencies.
Trustee meetings are held 6 times per year, typically on the third Tuesday of alternate months between 4.00 and 6.30pm. Trustees are expected to undertake additional work for the charity between meetings, subject to their availability and skill set, for example representing the Charity at local events or with partnership organisations.
The Trustee role is voluntary and unremunerated, though reasonable expenses can be reimbursed.
Being a Trustee
The challenge of being a Trustee requires, amongst other things:

THE ROLE: COMMUNITY PROGRAMMES MANAGER
As our Community Programmes Manager, you will lead the development and implementation of innovative initiatives that make a real difference in people's lives.
Key responsibilities include:

Programme Development: Design and oversee engaging, impactful community programmes that align with SUNSHINE’s mission and goals.

Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships with local communities to ensure programmes are inclusive, relevant, and responsive to their needs.

Volunteer Coordination: Work with the HR and Volunteering Manager to recruit, train, and manage volunteers for programme delivery.

The escalating crisis in Gaza has left countless children in urgent need of medical attention, rehabilitation, and long-term support. Children Not Numbers is a grassroots NGO committed to the health, safety, education, and wellbeing of Gaza’s children.
Established in February 2024, Children Not Numbers has grown rapidly into an international team of more than 115, most of whom are volunteer paediatric medics representing more than 30 subspecialties. Working closely with staff on the ground in Gaza, their network reviews patient information, shares clinical insights, and helps coordinate medical evacuations and long-term care.
The work of Children Not Numbers includes:

Emergency medical aid to sick and injured children in Gaza

Medical evacuation to host countries equipped for urgent and complex cases – more than 230 children evacuated to date

Rehabilitation and trauma support for children with lifelong injuries and extreme psychological trauma

Maternal Support Programme, which has supported over 500 women across 1,100+ appointments

Education and Empowerment Programme via their school in Gaza, currently supporting 300 children with academic and psychological support

International advocacy, including engagement with the UN Human Rights Office, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, the European Commission, and the UK government
About the Role
Children Not Numbers is seeking a volunteer to contribute 8+ hours per week (worked flexibly), supporting the people who make this work possible.
This role is ideal for someone with professional HR experience who is keen to apply their expertise in a fast-moving organisation responding to a humanitarian emergency.
Key responsibilities include:

Working closely with the HR Manager, you will providing general HR support across the volunteer lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to engagement and offboarding

Helping maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer records, ensuring everyone is supported throughout their time with Children Not Numbers
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome interest from individuals motivated by Children Not Numbers's work and values.
Essential:

2+ years of recent employment in an HR role, which must be in the United Kingdom

Knowledge of UK HR practices that suit a volunteer or charity-based context

CIPD qualification or currently studying (or similar HR/employment law credentials)

A solid understanding of confidentiality and data protection principles, including GDPR
Desirable:

Experience supporting or managing volunteers

Familiarity with remote or international teams

Understanding of the charity sector and volunteer-led structures
