About WSUP
Woolwich Service Users Project (WSUP) is a community-led charity providing practical, health, and wellbeing support to people at risk or experiencing homelessness and poverty in Woolwich and the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Our services include:

Treasurer (Trustee) role description
As well as fulfilling the general duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer maintains an overview of WSUP’s financial affairs, ensuring appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are in place. The Treasurer reports to the Board at regular intervals on the financial health of the organisation.
Key responsibilities

Overseeing the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, monthly and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees.

Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.

Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves and cost management.

Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.

Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with Chief Executive.

Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process
-
Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaising with the Chief Executive to develop the financial understanding of the Board of Trustees.

Defining Key Performance indicators (KPI’s) and tracking against forecast. Also to include monitoring fundraising targets.

Ensuring investments and assets are maximised.

Lead on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.

Oversee the development and implementation of systems for appraising, mitigating and reporting corporate risk.

Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, for example, the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies.

Liaise with the bank and be involved with the payment authorisation process

Oversee payroll updates and payment authorisation, plus authorise/pay employment related taxes/pensions/NI

What we are looking for
Essential skills & experience
-
A finance professional. A knowledge of charity finance is an advantage. Otherwise an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience and an understanding of the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector

A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity.

Clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists.

Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors
Desirable skills

Understanding of grant funding, financial sustainability, and social impact finance.

Experience working with QuickBooks, Xero, or similar accounting software.

Previous experience as a Trustee, Treasurer, or charity finance lead.
General responsibilities of all trustees
As a Trustee, you will:

Support and provide advice on WSUP’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.

Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

Oversee WSUP’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
-
Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
-
Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.

Review and approve WSUP’s financial statements.
-
Provide support and challenge to WSUP’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
-
Keep abreast of changes in WSUP’s operating environment.
-
Contribute to regular reviews of WSUP’s own governance.

Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
-
Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect WSUP’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.

Contribute to the broader promotion of WSUP’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
Time commitment & term

Board Meetings: Held monthly (in Woolwich or remotely).

Finance & Audit Meetings: 3–4 per year.

Ad-hoc Involvement: Supporting the CEO on financial matters.

Estimated Time Commitment: 1–2 days per month.

Term: 3 years, with the option for renewal (max 9 years).

Expenses: This is a voluntary role, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Canine Partners trains assistance dogs to transform the lives of adults with physical disabilities and their wider community of family, friends, and colleagues. What is involved in our Trustee role for Canine Partners
The Canine Partners Trustee Board is diversely talented, highly engaged and united in its purpose. It works closely with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team to ensure Canine Partners effectively delivers its mission and is governed to the highest standards.
We are seeking to attract new Trustees who will use their skills, experience and expertise to make a real difference to our well-respected and growing charity. You will possess strategic vision, organisational acumen and a passion to support adults with disabilities and their network.
Trustees of Canine Partners will possess the right balance of skills, commitment, interests and motivations to serve the needs of the charity at the time. This will be determined in line with the strategic needs and the profile of the other members of the Council of Trustees.
We ask for a commitment of attendance at our meetings, five to ten board meetings per year. Our meetings are a combination of online and face-to-face.
We ask you to read associated documentation and contribute to discussions. During our meetings, we debate important decisions robustly, drawing on many different perspectives, and always prioritising the interests of our beneficiaries. Decisions made in these meetings are delivered with collective responsibility, so it is important that Trustees feel empowered to question the Officers and Executive accordingly.
In addition, Trustees may be asked to offer their skills, expertise and insight into specific projects and/or support Executive arms of the Charity in determining and delivering strategic objectives. This offers the opportunity to both broaden and deepen knowledge and understanding of the work of Canine Partners and, more broadly, a complex skills-led organisation.

Job Synopsis
The MCC Rwanda/Burundi Representative(s) are responsible for providing overall leadership to a complex and multi-faceted MCC program. This includes responsibility for administrative operations, team building, strategic directions, and support of MCC’s partners and projects in the two countries. The Reps supervise and support a team of eleven program and administrative staff in two offices (Kigali and Bujumbura) including National Staff, expatriate International Staff, and one-year young adult participants in Global Service Learning (GSLers). In Rwanda and Burundi, the Reps oversee work with 10 partner organizations implementing 11 projects in each sector in which MCC works: food security, sustainable livelihoods, education, peacebuilding, and health. MCC staff support partners in the planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes; in organizational capacity building; and with technical expertise. The Reps organize and lead an annual team gathering and an annual partner gathering. They also maintain strong relationships with the Friends Church in both countries. In Rwanda and Burundi, MCC has developed long-term relationships with faith-based partners, most of whom operate with a peace lens and many with connections to the Friends Church. There are two large-complex food-security projects (one in each country) funded by the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB), which have significant expectations for reporting and for data collection and analysis. MCC’s support of peacebuilding has been longstanding in the two countries and currently includes the Great Lakes Peacebuilding Institute and youth peace clubs. MCC Rwanda/Burundi is also playing a significant role in the development and implementation of the MCC Africa strategic peacebuilding goals. The education projects include a vocational education project in each country as well as a K-12 school in a marginalized, rural community in Burundi. The Reps represent MCC to government authorities, other international NGOs, churches, and partners and in Rwanda and in Burundi. The Reps participate in annual Southern Central Africa and Nigeria (SCAN) Regional Meetings of MCC leadership and are supervised by the Area Directors for Southern Central Africa and Nigeria based in Kigali.

Key Responsibilities

c. Develop and monitor financial record-keeping and reporting, taking corrective action where needed
d. Develop and maintain lists of inventories of equipment, including computers, vehicles, etc. along with replacement plans e. Maintain and update registration documents in respective countries
f. Ensure resource stewardship across the country
g. Prepare and monitor project reporting
h. Receive and respond to worker reports
i. Ensure maintenance of personnel records and other documents for MCC Records and Archives

4. Select, supervise, and motivate MCC workers: International Service Workers, International Staff and National staff

Location Description
The MCC Representative(s) are based in Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali. Kigali is a pleasant place to live, with mild weather, manageable traffic, low crime rates, a wide range of products available, and plenty of restaurants and shops.
Kigali has a “small town” flavor but is also home to a cosmopolitan community of Africans and non-Africans from around the world. In many ways, it is clean and progressive, with a fast pace of economic development and many consumer goods and services available.
Both English and French are spoken in Rwanda, although most Rwandans speak only Kinyarwanda. About 10 years ago, English was made the second official language (along with Kinyarwanda and instead of French), and most Rwandese organizations and schools are still working to improve their English.
Good educational, health, and dental facilities are available, but health care options are limited when compared to North America or Europe.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Track the attendance of all volunteers.

Maintain friendly relationships with caseworkers.

Be the first point of contact for queries from volunteers and signpost to the relevant team/person.

Support the accessibility needs of volunteers attending in person or online.

Organise socials for the organisation.

Feedback volunteer experiences to the management team.

Support the People Coordinator to ensure the smooth onboarding and offboarding of volunteers.

In person attendance on Saturdays is compulsory but there is no expectation of remote work throughout week.

Citizens Advice Plymouth employs 180 staff and has 50 volunteers, who work both locally and nationally to support people who have problems with debt, housing, welfare benefits, employment and many other advice areas.

The Board of Trustees has an interesting and challenging task to ensure that the governance and finances of the charity are correct and to advise and support the senior leadership team
The Role
We currently have 9 Trustees and are looking to strengthen our Board of Trustees with 2 new Trustees, who can use their professional and lived experiences, skills and talents to contribute to the on-going success of the Charity. We are specifically seeking individuals who offer experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Chair designate to take over from the current Chair once inducted and has a full understanding of the organisation. We expect that to take approximately 6-12 months depending on time commitments.
- Finance and accounting (not necessarily within a charitable setting, but this would be beneficial) in order to succeed our current Treasurer in 2 years’ time.
- Leadership experience within a charitable organisation
- Previous experience as a Trustee or governor
- Local involvement in the City of Plymouth
We are committed to further diversifying our Board to represent the communities that we serve across Plymouth. We would particularly like to hear from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds and LGBTQ+ groups. We are also currently seeking to redress our current imbalance so we would particularly appreciate female applicants or people under the age of 30.

Chair
As our Chair, you’ll have excellent communication skills with great leadership qualities, strategic and analytical skills, be able to deliver the vision of the charity, help us to ‘live’ our values, and bring people together. Previous experience of being a Chair is essential and experience of the voluntary sector desirable and we welcome applications from anyone who feels they have the skills to fulfil the role.
Trustees
We’re also looking for three additional trustees to join our board. We want our board to have a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds, so if you think you’re not a typical trustee, then you might be just what we’re looking for! You don’t need to have had experience of Citizens Advice, or of being a Trustee – just a commitment and enthusiasm to help us shape the work and strategic direction of our forward-thinking charity.
Becoming a Trustee will give you the opportunity to gain experience in leadership, governance and strategy and is a great way to give something back to your local community – some employers may even give you time off to volunteer for a local charity.

The Housing and Welfare team is a fast-paced team which works to make sure that all of our clients have safe and comfortable accommodation and are able to access any benefits to which they are entitled. People seeking asylum are restricted in the benefits they can access, if any, and their legal status determines whether or not they can engage in employment and what statutory accommodation is available for them, so the Housing and Welfare team is vital in helping HBF’s clients to navigate this system. People recently granted refugee status and those who have experienced exploitation are also at high risk of destitution, homelessness and unsuitable accommodation.
As a very busy team, our casework volunteers are invaluable, supporting the staff team on anything from liaising with statutory bodies and voluntary agencies, to drafting grant applications for individual welfare needs. To be able to meet the enormous demand for welfare and housing support, we ideally need to have volunteer support throughout the week.
Main tasks and activities
· Assisting clients to access asylum support, community care, housing, mainstream benefits, charitable support (etc.), within the remit of prevention of homelessness and destitution;
· Maintaining contact with clients within the remit of prevention of homelessness and destitution;
· Liaising with statutory bodies (Asylum Support, DWP, local authorities), solicitors and voluntary agencies to ensure client needs are met;
· Referring clients internally and externally as appropriate for specialist help with issues that fall outside the remit of the housing and welfare casework service, including health/therapeutic services, referrals to immigration/housing/community care solicitors;
· Maintaining accurate and timely client records and follow-up work;
· Other administrative duties as required, including database management and filing.
Skills and experience needed
· Understanding of, and commitment to, the objectives of the Helen Bamber Foundation;
· A demonstrable empathy for our vulnerable clients, including people seeking asylum, refugees and survivors of torture and trafficking;
· Some knowledge of the challenges facing vulnerable clients including people seeking asylum, refugees and survivors of torture, trafficking;
· Some experience in a casework and/or advice role;
· Some knowledge of the rights and entitlements of people seeking asylum and refugees;
· Some knowledge of mainstream benefits, housing, social care;
· Ability to keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures relating to welfare, housing and immigration;

The Trans Legal Clinic is the first trans-led specialist gender identity legal practice and registered charity in the UK. The mission of the Trans Legal Clinic is simple; we provide free and accessible legal help to transgender and non-binary people in need. Our overarching vision is a society where all people have access to the legal resources required for gender self-determination and where gender diversity is not just accepted but embraced, with trans* people equipped with the necessary legal tools to navigate the world in their affirmed gender.
Service Introduction
The Casework department is the core of our organisation, working directly with clients by offering them support and advocacy. We have assisted over 70 clients since October 2023 and will be re-opening our referrals in January 2025 to new clients seeking our support.
Our Casework department is divided into four teams. Each team constitutes of a Specialist Caseworker who oversees 5-15 casework volunteers. Our four teams are:

Gender Recognition: legal transition and healthcare advocacy
Gender-Based Violence: domestic abuse and hate crime
The Gender Recognition team supports clients to navigate their social and legal transition, including assisting clients with changing their name via deed poll and updating identifying documents such as driver’s licenses and passports as well as obtaining Gender Recognition Certificates. You will also provide a healthcare advocacy service supporting clients to accessing gender-affirming care by direct liaison with healthcare providers including GPs, GICs, and private providers, ensuring that fair and supportive processes are followed.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Support and outreach
Be fully aware of safeguarding issues and lead on client risk management within the service.
Update the Gender Recognition client database to ensure client records are updated within agreed timeframes and that they accurately record interventions and demonstrate progress.
Liaise with our team of solicitors when requesting advice and guidance on a case.
Reach out to organisations that specialise in gender recognition, legal transition, and gender affirming healthcare, to collaborate and share knowledge and resources.
Teamwork
Lead the Gender Recognition team by supervising caseworkers.
Support caseworks by setting clear objectives and holding team and individual supervisions regularly.
Set and moderate team performance targets.
Attend department meetings and contribute to discussions.
Be respectful to colleagues and support good communication between all stakeholders.
Research
Create and deliver training for current and future caseworkers in the Gender Recognition team.
Create resources for caseworkers on relevant legislation, case studies, and good practice, to allow them to become more knowledgeable and independent whilst working with clients.
Create resources for clients and those seeking information on our website about their rights regarding gender recognition, legal transition, and gender-affirming healthcare.
Conduct general research into gender recognition, legal transition, and gender-affirming healthcare in the UK.
General
Adhere to Trans Legal Clinic’s Policies and Procedures at all times.
Cover for other members of the team and department as necessary.
Be proactive in reviewing and evaluating own performance and identifying upon areas for improvement and development.
