Job description

About Northcote Church and The Space Community Centre:
Northcote Church is a vibrant, inclusive community in the heart of Northcote Road SW11 (Battersea/Clapham) committed to making a positive impact in our local area. The Space is our new hub for activities, events, and support for people of all ages. Located on Webb’s Road - just off Northcote Road, Battersea - The Space is a safe, inclusive space where young people can come together, build relationships, and engage in meaningful community. 

Role Overview:
We are looking for a passionate, energetic, and committed Sessional Youth Workers to join our team. As a Sessional Youth Worker, you will work with young people aged 11–18, providing support, guidance, and creating opportunities for personal development. Your role will involve facilitating group activities, supporting the emotional and social needs of young people, and helping to develop an engaging and inclusive youth groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver youth activities and workshops that are engaging, creative, and inclusive.
  • Support and mentor young people, helping them to build confidence, resilience, and social skills.
  • Build positive relationships with young people, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and heard.
  • Promote a welcoming environment where young people can express themselves freely.
  • Collaborate with other youth workers, volunteers, and community partners to ensure a well-rounded and supportive youth programme.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and engagement in line with safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and development of the youth programme to meet the evolving needs of young people.

Person Specification:

  • Experience of working with young people, ideally in a youth work or community setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate young people.
  • Understanding of the challenges young people face and a passion for supporting their personal and social development.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive, creative, and flexible approach to working with young people.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A positive and inclusive attitude towards diversity.
  • Enhanced DBS check (we can arrange this for the successful candidate).
