An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced Accountant to strategically lead and develop the finance team of Mind in Enfield and Barnet.
The role will:
- lead on managing financial sustainability and the assets of the organisation
- ensure compliance to all law and regulation relating to charity finance

Duties will include working closely with the CEO and senior leadership team on developing the organisation and managing change to sustain and grow the organisation. The successful candidate will also work with the team on potential new funded projects, inputting into proposal/bids. They will provide financial oversight of bid preparation and business development opportunities, and have a strategic overview and management of the finances for all service projects and levels of staffing to sustain projects and growth for the organisation.
Finance duties
- Work with the CEO to ensure good financial practices in place and bring to the immediate attention of the CEO, SLT, the Finance & HR Committee (FHRC) and Trustees, as appropriate, any and all areas of financial and risk control.
- Manage the overall financial strategy, preparing 3-year plans, budgets, forecasts & monthly management accounts which are prepared accurately and delivered in a timely manner.
- Produce and monitor a cash flow forecast and highlight any risks to the organisation.
- Monitor and explain variances and ensure timely action to correct any issues.
- Together with HR, prepare monthly payroll instruction, check payroll and organise timely payment. Work with HR, to ensure HR documentation is consistent with payroll and forecast.
- Ensure all sales and purchase transactions are processed in a timely and accurate manner. Work with SLT to ensure necessary in place contractual and purchase order documentation in place for income.
- Maintain accounting controls and implement policies and procedures which meet the requirements of SORP and ensure a secure and confidential financial system with appropriate backups.
- Manage financial audits including all necessary preparatory work and interface with auditors.
- Identify areas for financial process improvement and streamlining.
Education & Qualification
- Educated to at least degree
- Qualified accountant (CA, ACCA or CIMA)
This is a part time position, (14 hours per week), based remotely. You will be expected to attend Barnet (N12) and Enfield (N9) offices when necessary.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial management
● Lead the setting, tracking and reporting of budgets and fundraising targets
● Maintain accurate records of income and expenditure on a cash and accrual basis
● Manage bookkeeping for the charity, including invoicing and bank reconciliations
● Keep accurate records of funding allocations, especially restricted and unrestricted income
● Work with our accountant to produce end-of-year accounts and prepare for audit
● Build strong relationships within The Economist Group finance team to support with financial management and compliance
● Ensure the charity remains tax compliant, including managing quarterly VAT returns and reviewing funding contracts
Operations, people and governance
● Build and maintain operational processes across the organisation which support the successful delivery of our work globally
● Support the team to accurately monitor and evaluate their progress towards targets
● Work with senior leadership and hiring managers to continually improve the recruitment and onboarding process
● Line manage the Programme Officer and support them to deliver programme and admin support
● Work with our company secretary to prepare annual accounts
Data management
● Manage GDPR-compliant data collection and storage, with accurate and up-to-date data to report on key targets
● Manage the presentation of data so that it is clear and accessible
● Build strong relationships across departments in The Economist Group to support with data management and legal contracts
● Work with team members to create and deliver comprehensive data metrics and collection plans and track progress towards KPIs on projects
● Work with our Head of Design and Product to lead on an upcoming digital transformation project including choosing an appropriate Customer Relationship Management system (CRM)

Main Duties - Recruitment
- Identify resourcing requirements across the charity by liaising regularly with internal stakeholders to ensure resourcing needs are understood and met. Build strong relationships with hiring managers to understand their needs and enhance the recruitment process.

Main Duties - Development
- To be the main point of contact in regards to all learning and development matters. To work collaboratively with senior managers and the HR team to continually review our current training offer (internal and external) to ensure it is aligned to our industry and fit for purpose
- To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and to ensure our targets for the training year are met. Work with the HR team to utilise training metrics and feedback from staff to report on trends or improvements.
- Attend monthly training meetings to contribute ideas and recommendations to senior management in relation to developments within the L&D strategy
- To be the main point of contact with the development and delivery of the Apprenticeship framework. Supporting managers and participants through the program, to achieve development and coaching objectives

Person Specification
- Previous experience of leading and managing safer recruitment campaigns ideally in this industry

The Development Manager (Individual Giving) will focus on increasing donations from individual supporters. Working closely with the Head of Development and CEO, you'll be responsible for growing donation schemes for individual supporters, stewarding major donors, delivering public fundraising appeals and promoting opportunities for supporters to make gifts in wills.

Connected Futures is Youth Futures’ systems change programme. It aims to foster joined-up solutions to the complex issues and barriers facing disadvantaged young people.
