More than one in four children are growing up in poverty in the UK. It doesn’t have to be this way. The new UK government has announced its plans to develop a strategy to tackle child poverty, something that Child Poverty Action Group has led the way in calling for.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to play a pivotal role in delivering change for the 4.3 million children growing up in poverty. You will have a demonstrable track record in securing six figure and multi annual grants primarily from trusts, foundations and/or the National Lottery.
You will have the ability to work confidently as a creative and analytical problem solver, and a hands-on fundraiser. CPAG’s fundraised income has grown significantly, and the team raises nearly £3 million annually.
You will be responsible for managing all aspects of fundraising income generation, and leading and supporting a small fundraising team. You will be able to build and nurture relationships with funders, donors and other stakeholders, and have excellent communication skills.

You will be a confident and capable leader who will work with colleagues towards supporting an annual programme of circa £3m. This role is crucial to building the charity's long-term sustainability, with a focus on exploring innovative opportunities.

The Head of Fundraising is an exciting new role developed for the Society to increase fundraising and develop additional income streams to enhance the sustainability of the Society. They will help deliver the Transformation Plan, an exciting new project for Scotland’s oldest learned antiquarian Society to help deliver the Society’s vision: “Scotland’s past is for everyone to research, share, enjoy and protect, home and abroad”.
The Transformation Plan includes the acquisition and redevelopment of a B-listed building in central Edinburgh to co-create the most inclusive, low-carbon and heritage-rich space to work, visit and participate. This will become a heritage hub for Scotland’s past, helping to bring heritage alive for a wide range of public audiences. This role will provide the necessary vision, leadership, and fundraising skills which will enable the Society to achieve its fundraising targets and enhance its development program.
They will be an effective fundraiser and key contact for grant giving organisations, personal donations and legacies. They will report directly to the Director sharing collective responsibility to deliver the Society’s strategy and vision.
Initially on a 2.5-year fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension subject to funding, the post will work as part of the senior management team and liaise directly with staff, Councillors (trustees), members (known as Fellows) and other organisations and individuals to ensure the successful delivery of their responsibilities.
The post will have the following immediate priorities:
· Helping develop and submit a major stage one Development Phase National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) grant application in collaboration with the Director and others, creating an engaging and successful proposal and case for support (part of an overall c£6m Transformation Plan project)
· Development and delivery of a major fundraising campaign based on personal giving, grant applications and other fundraising activities
· Working with staff and Councillors to develop the required transformation of the Society to deliver maximum public benefit in line with the Society’s vision and mission

Main Responsibilities
Strategy and planning
· Development and delivery of a fundraising campaign (including grant funding, individual and organisational donations, and other fundraising activities) for a c£6m project, setting targets in collaboration with the Director and meeting them, creating engaging and successful proposals and cases for support
· Lead the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve income targets across a range of revenue streams
· In cooperation with the Director, lead the development of a long-term fundraising strategy to achieve agreed long term Society goals and vision
· Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these funds
Fundraising
· Build and manage an effective fundraising team (across the Society staff and volunteers as required) that delivers fundraising income meeting set targets
· Oversee the management of a grant and trust income programme, supporting staff as necessary and ensuring production of effective, high-quality proposals and reports
· Oversee the management of an individual giving programme, supporting staff as necessary and ensuring production of effective, high-quality donor development and reports
· Lead on development of new funding streams
· Develop and maintain effective supporter journeys for the development of relationships and retention
Senior Management
The Head of Fundraising is a member of the Society’s Senior Management Team (SMT) and as such the post-holder will be expected to play a proactive role in the management of the Society including:
· Organisational strategic planning and development
· Income and expenditure budget planning and management
· Advising members of SMT on the availability of funds and the viability of obtaining funds to support initiatives
· Contribute to leadership decisions on all aspects of policy, development and organisation
· Playing a significant role in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of Society strategy and action plans
· To participate as an active member of the SMT, attending meetings and producing reports as required
· Attending Finance, Audit and Risk Committee meetings to report and give advice on fundraising matters
· Attending and participating in Council (trustee meetings) and producing reports as required
· Contribute to establishing and delivering on the core values of the Society

Person Specification
The Head of Fundraising will have substantial fundraising and management experience, a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds from statutory sources, foundations, trusts and major donors. They will be a key contact for grant giving organisations, personal donations and legacies. They will report directly to the Director sharing collective responsibility to deliver the Society’s strategy and vision. As such they will need the following:

· At least three years’ experience in a similar role
· Demonstrable record of major capital fundraising leadership and delivery, ideally within a charitable organisation but others will be considered
· A track record of successful fundraising, including sizeable NLHF applications

Further Information
This post is an initial 2.5-year (30 month) full-time contract which will be extendible subject to funding. There will be a short probationary period during which time your skills and suitability for the position will be assessed. Development of fundraising for the Transformation Plan will be the immediate priority. A lot of work has already been undertaken by the Society in preparing for an NLHF application as part of this, but the skill and experience of this post will ensure it has the maximum chance of success. This will include liaising with others, including NLHF staff and our consultants, the More Partnership.
The tasks and role will develop in line with the requirements in that application and the implementation of the Transformation Plan and will be reviewed after the submission of the initial NLHF bid. However, the core responsibilities will remain the development and delivery of successful fundraising strategies, increasing income to the Society.

About the role
The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for executing Pro Bono Economics’ (PBE) fundraising strategy under the Director of Development’s guidance. This role focuses on increasing and diversifying income through building relationships with trusts, foundations, corporates, and high-net-worth individuals, while also securing funding for specific research projects in collaboration with the research team. The role includes managing donor engagement, overseeing grant applications, leading a small team, and ensuring compliance with fundraising regulations, all while maintaining operational oversight of the fundraising department.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Fundraising strategy implementation: Deliver PBE’s multi-year fundraising strategy to expand and diversify income from major donors, trusts and foundations, corporate partners and research institutions
- New business development: Identify and secure new funding opportunities, focusing on building sustainable partnerships.

Experience
- You have senior fundraising experience across a broad mix of income streams, a talent for building partnerships, bid writing and a strategic mindset.
- Experience working with research-driven organisations is a plus, as is familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce.

You will lead Woman’s Trust income generation ensuring adequate income to sustain and grow the organisation, increasing its income from £1.3 Million to £3 Million in the next 3 years. While raising funds from multiple income streams, focus growths areas will be statutory and Trust and foundation funding securing six-figure, multiple-year grants and contracts. You will effectively communicate our services and campaign our aims aligned to our strategic priorities.
You will oversee the development and implementation of the fundraising strategy and the funding pipeline; ensure the maintenance and development of excellent relationships with current and new funders, stewarding grants and reporting back; review, update and develop service budgets; oversee the submission or coordination of quality bids, approaches, and events.
As a member of the senior leadership team, this post will work cross departmentally and will contribute to the overall strategy of Woman’s Trust, working closely with the CEO and the Board of Trustees. You will lead and line manage the Senior Trust and Foundation Manager and Fundraising Officer. You will deliver a direct income target for each year, with a focus on the development and tendering of statutory commissioning.

Role Summary
As Head of Fundraising and Business Development, you will be responsible for implementing an effective fundraising and income generation strategy aligned to the objectives of our organisational Strategic plan and with a strong emphasis on partnership building and relationship management.
We exist to create lasting change for those who are marginalised and vulnerable, so you will need to be driven by the passion to see lives changed and help generate income to support more of this valuable work.
You will need to work effectively and confidently as our lead for both contract tenders and renewals and charitable fundraising and be experienced in helping develop a mixed model of income generation.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with high level demonstrable experience in business development and major contract tenders, bid writing and building corporate partnerships.
You’ll be highly effective in building meaningful relationships with a wide demographic of stakeholders, from large corporates to individual donors, and will exemplify the passion and value that we carry for our service users and supporters.

Responsibilities
Business Development Objectives
• Take the lead on Business Development for the charity by ensuring processes and procedures for supporting us to bid for and secure public sector contracts are robust and effective.
• Work with the Chief Operating Officer and relevant Head of Service on identifying and securing contractual funding opportunities.
• Develop and write tender bids to support us to secure new contracts
• Actively develop and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders and partners, with a view to achieving Causeway’s strategic objectives for income generation
Fundraising Strategy & Objectives
• Create and implement an effective Fundraising Strategy for the charity that applies the right balance of fundraising mechanisms, e.g. trusts, foundations, corporate philanthropy, events, individual giving and major donors, to achieve our organisational objectives.
• Work to established Fundraising targets and goals, considering strategic change and approach where any risk of shortfall is identified, to enable the development of charitable activities in response to established need
• Work collaboratively with the Impact and Evaluation team to ensure that all approaches for funds are underpinned and informed by our commitment to survivor voice, accurate data and performance information that demonstrates the value of our work.
• Establish clear mechanisms and strategies for converting engaged supporters and stakeholders into sustainable revenue streams
• Identify key opportunities to leverage the organisational brand and vision for the purpose of engaging with new external stakeholders/supporters
• Manage the operational activities of the fundraising team ensuring the workload of the department is effectively delivered to a high-quality standard.
• Oversee the development of Life Supply ensuring it continues to evolve and meet the needs of the survivors we support.

• Provide recommendations to the Board in how the charity strategically plans and prioritises fundraising activities and campaigns throughout the year, in order to meet organisational objectives
• Create and embed a fundraising culture within the team and across the organisation
• Coach and inspire your Fundraising Team, motivating them to achieve their individual and department objectives and supporting their development through formal and informal processes
Data/Reporting/Compliance
• Provide a quarterly report to the CEO/Board of Trustees on Business Development and Fundraising outcomes and performance against budgeted targets and KPIs, as well as insightful analysis into prospected income
• Track and provide detailed reporting on income, working in collaboration with the Finance Dept
• Ensure compliance with the Charity Commission and Fundraising Regulator Codes of Conduct and regulations
• Ensure best practice in Fundraising protocol and procedure, acting as the leading insight and voice into societal trends and challenges in the fundraising climate, and adjust organisational approach and strategy as required, to respond to changes and opportunities
