As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of People and Culture will work  in a spirit of mutual accountability with fellow directors, taking strategic leadership of Turn2us’s People and Culture Directorate. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Health Information to join us to provide strategic oversight and management of Cancer Research UK's (CRUK) health information to the public, covering cancer prevention, screening and diagnosis. The team is one of a number at CRUK that reviews and synthesises evidence, differing in terms of their audience focus and/or topic focus. The successful candidate will need to work closely with their peers to ensure that CRUK has the maximum impact across all their audiences to improve cancer outcomes.

About the team

The Health Information team work to inform and engage the public with information on cancer prevention, early diagnosis and screening. We do this using evidence and look for opportunities to reach those who need it most. We use our knowledge and communications expertise to guide and shape activity across the charity including policy, partnerships and fundraising.

What will I be doing?

• Oversee the provision of high quality, accessible and evidence-based health information including maintaining a good understanding of best practice

• Provide strategic direction for CRUK's health information priority topics to maximise impact across public facing channels including but not limited to health marketing, communications and partnerships

• Act as a senior subject matter expert on health information and use of evidence, advising senior internal and external stakeholders (Executive Board, other charities, researchers)

• Act as a senior media spokesperson and provide expert sign-off for health information content used in a range of external channels (including press and policy influencing)

• Provide functional leadership to the health information team, ensuring that their time is prioritised effectively to focus on the areas of greatest impact - including balancing proactive workload and support for other teams.

• Responsible for managing the team budgets to ensure activity and services are delivered in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

• Build effective relationships with other evidence teams and policy to minimise duplication of effort, ensure consistency of messaging, and maximise our impact on a range of topics in support of CRUK and PIC's wider influencing and engagement strategy

What skills are we looking for?

• Excellent judgement of sound research methods, ability to critically appraise qualitative and quantitative evidence and research

• Experience in translation of evidence into targeted, relevant and accessible public information

• A good understanding of either cancer prevention or early detection with the ability to develop expertise in both of these areas

• Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team, and prioritise workload in a complex matrix environment

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to sign off health information positions and represent this internally and externally

The Head of Finance is a new role which supports the growth of the global finance team in line with the rapid organisational growth and spread internationally. The Head of Finance role shall provide financial leadership, alongside the CFO, through proactive engagement with each business unit vertical, robust support, monitoring and challenge of financial decision-making in context of plans and strategic directives informing key decisions across the Global Organisation.

The organisation:

We are a high-profile non-profit organisation and trade association leading the international clean energy transition as the world seeks to stay within 1.5c global warming target. We have innovative programmes and collaborations promoting sustainable offshore and onshore wind development, mentoring women working in wind industry, education and energy access. 

GWEC are a Belgium registered association with subsidiary companies and offices in the UK, India, China, Portugal, Singapore, UAE and Vietnam and a global staff of around 75. The key duties of this Head of Finance are as follows:

• Prepare annual global organisation budgets by entity, business unit and project.
• Prepare multi-year forecasts and financial plans built on known and likely projects, activities, expected growth and blue-sky scenarios.
• Prepare regular financial performance reports for the Executive Committee and Board.
• Have critical oversight of the global results consolidation.
• Lead the Global Finance team with 3 direct reports and outsourced local relationships for each office jurisdiction.
• Prepare quarterly global and entity forecasts and supervise cashflow.
• Hold oversight of global fiscal and tax compliance.
• Plan, forecast and monitor recovery of funds from grant funded projects.
• Promote the visibility of financial data and outputs to stakeholders through continuous improvement and integration of finance and related systems and processes.
• Deputise for the CFO on Financial matters at Senior Management Team and Executive Committee meetings as required.

The successful candidate will have:

• Qualified as an Accountant: ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent.
• Non-profit experience, particularly with grants and project financial reporting.
• International experience – ideally at HQ group level (non-profit or commercial) demonstrating an understanding of cultural and logistical challenges.
• Excellent FP&A experience, including modelling, budgeting and forecasting.
• Experience of managing a finance team.
• Experience providing a proactive partnering role to business operations, especially in ensuring achievement of budgets
• The willingness to travel internationally to other GWEC offices on an infrequent basis.

Populo Living is a development and housing company wholly owned by a single shareholder, Newham Council. Populo Living enable Newham to keep control of Council land and build high quality, low carbon homes and neighbourhoods whilst retaining the developer profit for Newham Council, in the form of new affordable homes and long-term investment income.

The role of Head of Finance – Treasury and Financial Planning will lead, manage and co-ordinate the provision of the Groups Financial Planning, Treasury Management Services and Management Accounting functions as well as assist the Finance Director to lead and manage the Finance team.

The role:

• Lead, manage and motivate a team of four with two direct reports.
• Lead on all treasury related matters for the group such as arranging new funding, loan compliance, cashflow and banking.
• Lead on the organisation’s annual financial plan, including extensive sensitivity analysis of key performance indicators.
• Lead on the review of management accounts and production of board papers.

World Cancer Research Fund champions the latest and most authoritative scientific research from around the world on cancer prevention and survival through diet, weight and physical activity, so that we can empower people to make informed lifestyle choices to reduce their cancer risk.

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Director who will be responsible for the work of the charity within the UK. The Director will be the strategic and day to day leader of the UK organisation and will also work hands-on not only with his/her direct reports but also all teams in the office. We are seeking a leader who can take the UK charity’s fundraising to new heights; thus, this is a particularly important focus area.

The role will be directly overseeing the World Cancer Research Fund UK’s Fundraising and Health Information Departments. You will report to the CEO and work in partnership with the UK CEO and other senior executives in updating and implementing the organisation’s strategy and objectives. 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of directing and leading a similar sized UK philanthropic organisation (or a fundraising team within a larger charity), including writing and implementing strategies and evaluating outcomes. You will have proven experience of delivering fundraising objectives as well as a strong track record in communications and up to date knowledge of social media and digital strategies. We are seeking an operational and people focussed Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Executive Team. You will drive development of all financial and operational management, processes and reporting, overseeing the organisation’s day-to-day operations including the leadership of Finance, People, Governance, Fundraising, Marketing and Communications and Digital.

The successful candidate will have held broad finance and operations positions, with a track record of interacting at Board level and presenting clear financial and management information. Whilst you don’t have to be financially qualified, we do need someone with strong financial acumen and demonstrable ability to monitor, interpret and communicate financial information effectively. You will have experience in implementing new and/or successful improvements to existing systems and processes, with a track record of driving organisational change. The post holder will have a good understanding of regulation and best practice alongside the ability to develop efficient processes and controls in line with our governance framework. Ensuring that people are at the centre of the Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) you will play a key role within the Executive team supporting the charity to achieve sustainable growth and delivery of efficient and effective services ensuring plans are developed and implemented, and targets are met.

Principle Duties and Areas of Responsibility

Operational Leadership and Governance

• Overall accountability for the operations of the foundation
• Oversee and optimise internal processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity
• Evaluate and improve overall performance by gathering, analysing and interpreting data and metrics
• Oversee robust risk management processes and protocols proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks
• Oversee the development of all necessary policies to ensure safe and healthy working environments
• Ensure FNF is compliant with all financial, tax, charity and legal requirements

Financial Management

• Oversee the development and monitoring of the financial strategy for the organisation, providing recommendations, information and guidance to the Trustees and Executive team to inform decision making
• Maintain and review polices and processes to ensure good financial controls are in place that meet both legal and tax requirements. This includes maintaining appropriate records and controls over restricted funds to ensure that these are used and reported appropriately
• Support the Finance Manager and Executive team in setting FNF’s annual budget, with robust analysis and justification of intended expenditure, financial forecasts, cashflow etc. securing active engagement and ownership from all internal budget holders
• Oversee the financial reports required to review progress against plans and forecasts throughout the year and ensuring these are disseminated and understood across the organisation
• Accountable for regular financial updates to Trustees including the Finance Investment Committee (FIC) and Board meetings along with the preparation of the financial aspects of the annual report and accounts
• Oversee the management and development of VAT reporting for FNF and trading subsidiary
• Oversee the financial aspect of FNF Global delivery to ensure compliance with HMRC

Systems and controls

• Lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of effective procurement systems and procedures, ensuring that FNF achieves best value and drives efficiencies through our external contracts
• Lead on the annual audit in accordance with current practice and the Charity Commissions Standard of Recommended Practice (SORP), liaising and managing the relationship with the auditors
• Oversee the operation of the payroll process and related HMRC contract ensuring that payments are made in an accurate and timely way
• Work with the Finance Committee to manage the investments for FNF, overseeing regular reviews of the investment policy and portfolio, liaising with external partners as necessary

Fundraising, Events, Marketing and Communications

• Provide leadership around income generation, making sure that this is located within the strategic framework and day to day thinking of the Foundation
• Provide leadership and direction for Marketing and Communications, ensuring that overall plans are in support of our strategic objectives
• Ensure all income generation activities from within this team are fully integrated across the Foundation, recognising the importance of inter departmental relationships
• Lead the team in the planning, communications, income generation and execution of the annual Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service and any similar high profile events.

Digital

• Provide strategic leadership in overseeing digital initiatives, guiding the development and execution of a comprehensive digital strategy

HR

• Provide expert professional judgement, advice, and guidance to the Executive and Senior Leadership teams in developing, monitoring, and implementing people strategies, policies and procedures, workforce and training that meet service needs.
• In partnership with the Head of Operations develop, communicate and implement the People and Culture Strategy.
• Support the ongoing development of a culture to enable the development of a workforce which is at the heart of the organisation, in which colleagues feel valued, safe, and respected.

The Group Finance Director holds a key role in the executive team in the Foundation Office of the Charity.  They are accountable for all matters relating to the UWGCF Charity finance, including the oversight of school income, endowment investments, loans, subsidiary companies, VAT, and the leadership of the Foundation finance team.  To succeed in the job, the post holder needs to build effective working relationships with independent school bursars and finance teams and link effectively with the Business managers in the state funded academies.

The UWGCF is a complex organisation, and the post holder will need to demonstrate a high level of communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to build effective and supportive working relationships with other and be prepared to engage fully in the work of the Foundation. This may mean working outside of normal working hours but most importantly means communicating and work with colleagues as part of the team.
