The Community Forest Trust supports the work of England’s Community Forests who are the leading woodland creation network in England and at the forefront of the UK’s climate emergency response.

We are currently recruiting a Finance & Operations Analyst, which will offer a unique opportunity for someone to work across a range of disciplines with support from domain experts and to gain broad and interesting experience. 

As Finance & Operations Analyst, you will be responsible for providing financial, operational, administrative and project management support to the Community Forest Trust and its subsidiaries.

The role is a dual role incorporating both finance and operational duties. Some key responsibilities therefore include:

Finance Work

• To process invoices and sales invoices in accordance with agreed procedures and regulations and to ensure that invoices are forwarded for authorisation in a timely manner.
• Reconcile the bank account monthly and ensure the financial system is up to date
• Actively contribute to supporting the Finance Manager in month end and year end reports and accounts
• Analyse monthly management accounts
• Support the preparation of grant claims, ensuring that adequate records are kept

Operations Work

• Support the CEO, Finance Manager and National Projects and Partnerships Manager with all aspects of their roles.
• Prepare materials for and arrange meetings including the CFT Board Meetings, the Forest Director Meetings and meetings with Defra and other key external stakeholders
• Project manage/oversee project management and communications for England’s Community Forests projects.

To be successful in the role, the postholder must have previous administration and/or finance and/or operational experience with high attention to detail, and analytical skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and accounting systems is also essential.

You must also be an organised and proactive individual with strong problem identification and solving skills, alongside a creative and innovative mindset.

As the role will involve working alongside the Finance Manager and other key stakeholders, the post holder will also require experience of working confidently and professionally with stakeholders at both senior and lower levels, with excellent communication skills.

Previous financial data management experience, financial qualifications, and good working knowledge of key accountancy software are also desirable, but not essential.

Our research has highlighted the lag faced by the community sector in its transition to net zero – no longer burning fossil fuels – compared to the domestic housing sector.  Key responsibilities

1.         To co-create and implement an effective community engagement strategy for the new Heat Development Company involving the three existing grantees on the programme, in particular giving consideration to the ways in which the Heat DevCo’s new investees can best work with local residents to make the case for electrification. To be the first point of contact for the pioneer grantees, and for the programme’s first set of development sites, ensuring that excellent communications are designed and implemented, and that questions and concerns are answered in a timely and informed way.  

2.    To manage any community consultants engaged as part of the programme, or working with project management partners.

3.To coordinate regular stakeholder engagement with key interest groups: grantees & investees and their communities, the social sector, and the decentralised energy sector. To be creative in developing these contacts, and to consider new and innovative ways of carrying out outreach and ongoing engagement reflecting the differential impact of analogue and digital methods of engagement, their reach into communities, and their replicability and cost.

4. To lead on qualitative research on decarbonisation and electrification for the Heat DevCo, in particular to support the Deputy CEO and research and data team in exploring the potential of heat as a common pool resource.

5. To work closely with the policy and communications team to ensure that stakeholder engagement reflects SIB’s policy priorities on decarbonisation and electrification, and that feedback from stakeholders is reflected in policy and communication outputs. To support the policy and communications team in its development of new policy and communication assets, and to work with the data team to incorporate the best evidence into outputs across SIB’s platforms. To work with external groups on the best approach to public information campaigns on electrification, and to ensure that SIB has a voice in wider efforts to encourage electrification in the UK.

6. To develop a calendar of useful events in heating decarbonisation and electrification, to attend relevant events or conferences and to ensure that the senior team prioritise the best set of opportunities to raise SIB’s profile and progress leads and partnerships. Through attendance to present the Heat Development Company, answering questions and reporting key feedback, ensuring that internal development work effectively reflects a wide set of views and experiences. To be an accessible and responsive contact point for SIB’s work on heat decarbonisation, taking a creative and inclusive approach to outreach and information sharing.

7. To support the coordination and project management of business development in community energy, heating and cooling, social investment fundraising and capacity building, supporting Business Development colleagues with relevant case studies, customer viewpoints and grassroots experience.

8. To provide regular and timely updates on the development of opportunities in heat decarbonisation and electrification to the senior team. These updates should both support effective information sharing across the organisation, and, in particular, reflect the grassroots and community perspective. This should enable SIB to make the best use of its resources and pursue its strategic priorities in an inclusive and accessible way.

9. To contribute to high quality bid responses for invitations to tender from funders, investors and other key client groups in heating, community energy, decarbonisation and electrification, to ensure that these are well-written and represent stakeholder and grassroots viewpoints.

Every year in the UK thousands of unpaid carers look after someone with dementia but receive little or no support. At Dementia Carers Count, we stand for them. We campaign for change and provide practical, emotional and financial support to dementia carers across the UK.

Our Carers Support Service delivers free advocacy, casework, and counselling, so no carer feels invisible, isolated or alone. Carers describe the service as life changing.

The Advice and Advocacy Specialist will be responsible for assessing and supporting dementia carers when they first contact the service. This role will also deliver casework to secure rights and services. We are looking for someone who understands carers rights and has experience of delivering successful casework. We need someone who is adaptable and open-minded, but also able to focus on quality assurance and carer outcomes.

We are a small and remote multi-disciplinary team, committed to making a difference for carers and supporting each other. The role can be based anywhere in the UK, with attendance at monthly in-person meetings in London.

The Head of Finance will be responsible for overseeing the finances at Kids Club Kampala. They will support the growth of the organisation through undertaking financial management, leading on financial reporting, and by providing strategic financial support to the CEO and the Board. The Head of Finance will be responsible for the day-to-day management of financial transactions and procedures, undertaking bookkeeping, budgeting, reporting, cash flow forecasting and foreign exchange hedging. Job Description

Financial Management 

• Own the general ledger, reconciling transactions using Xero accounting software, and ensuring the accounts are accurate and up to date

• Track income and expenditure against budgets and work with the whole team to revise forecasts accordingly 

• Monitor reserves and restricted funds, including tracking of grant funding, ensuring compliance with financial policies and controls

• Responsible for cash and treasury management including FX hedging

• Ensure tax compliance including the processing of gift aid claims

• Responsible for managing and reporting on UK office payroll

• Line management of the finance and administration officer

Financial Reporting

• Lead on the preparation of year end accounts for independent examination, including working with auditors on any queries

• Create and present quarterly financial reports to the Board of Trustees and the Finance sub-committee

• Work with the Ugandan office team to ensure sound accountability of spending and where necessary provide financial support and training 

• Provide regular management account updates for the CEO and wider team including cash flow position

• Production of pro forma cash flow and accounting reconciliations for the year

Strategic Finance and Business Strategy 

• Lead on the creation and development of annual budgets, work plans and cash flow forecasts, presenting to Trustees for approval

• Optimize financial exchange through strategic foreign exchange hedging

• Liaise with both colleagues in the UK and Uganda to create cash flow forecasts, monitoring spend and tracking progress against KPIs

• Regularly review and identify financial risks that could significantly impact upon the organisation and work with the rest of the team to ensure that appropriate steps are taken to manage and mitigate such risks

• As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, provide strategic financial support and advice, where needed, to the CEO and the Board of Trustees.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Professional accountancy experience, ideally in a charity context 

• Significant knowledge and experience of financial planning, budgeting and management reporting

• Experience of strengthening financial processes and systems and delivering process improvements

• Experience of producing statutory accounts, including audit and budget preparation

• Advanced MS Excel and/or Google sheets experience and skills, including importing data into accounting systems from third party sources 

• Good communication skills including the ability to translate and explain financial information to non-finance colleagues and stakeholders 

• Ability to think strategically, innovatively and creatively

• Good, independent judgment

• Ambitious, results and impact-focused

• Good organisational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work as part of a team and independently, prioritizing your own workload

• Committed to understanding and supporting the vision, values and ethos of Kids Club Kampala

Desirable:

• Experience using Xero accounting software

• Passion for making a difference for vulnerable children

• Thorough understanding of charity accounting and the charities SORP 

• International development experience and knowledge

· We support ill or injured men and women to have a safe place to call home, a home that meets their specific needs.

· We fund youth services on stations to provide clubs and activities for the children of serving personnel who move every few years.

· We provide grants to help with the cost of living. But this is just a few of the ways we help.

We are seeking an individual to undertake the dual role of promoting the profile of the RAF Benevolent Funds welfare offer, whilst also carrying out welfare casework. Post holders will be expected to undertake holistic assessment of need both remotely (over the telephone and online) and when required in person across their region. You will be expected to work with individuals who may have complex and sometimes challenging welfare needs, assisting them by identifying appropriate support from within both the RAF Benevolent Fund and the wider statutory and military charity sector, ensuring that support is made available to meet their need through the case working process.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a social welfare role supporting individuals and will have strong people and relationship-building skills, as well as empathy with or understanding of issues affecting the Armed Forces community.

This is a community-based position working from home (ideally based in Nottinghamshire) but covering the East Midlands region. The candidate must have their own vehicle for use of traveling around the region. Occasional travel to London will be required. The successful candidate for this role will need to be DBS checked and prove they have the right to work in the UK.

This Engagement Lead role will sit within our Capacity Building and Standards (CB&S) function. The CB&S function aims to build the capacity of organisations and institutions to embed the processes, skills, structures and cultures needed for effective public engagement in decision making. This includes work in the public, private and third sectors. 

You will be a proven project leader looking to make your next move and develop your leadership and profile in this interesting and important area of public participation and deliberation. You will enjoy supporting others to develop and embed public participation in decision making, drawing on your own significant experience, for example in delivering deliberative and participatory programmes or designing and running training . You will need to be able to advocate well for the benefits of public engagement in decision making.

You will have an appetite to learn, with strong budget and project management skills. You will have the ability to build and maintain good relationships with a wide variety of people, including senior actors and decision makers in institutions, project partners, internal staff and people in our wider networks. You will be a strategic thinker, and you will be able to develop new areas of work, ideas and fundable projects that will help the CB&S function to deliver its strategic aims. 

The first major project that will play a significant part of your role will be the School for Everyday Democracy - a major project funded by the National Lottery UK Fund. The programme builds the power of people from all walks of life to come together to deliver common good in their communities, and across the country. We want to give participants the power, confidence, connections, skills and opportunities required to affect the things that matter most to them through participation, deliberation, community organising and collective care. You will be the programme and pedagogical lead - directing the strategy of the project, developing and delivering training content, managing governance, budgets and risk, and managing the wider programme team.
