Our network of 16 local Home-Start charities in the capital provides volunteer-led home visiting, group and other support to parents and carers with young children facing challenges such as social isolation, mental health difficulties, and poverty. About the role
As Director, you will be the public face of an impactful and dynamic charity. You will ensure successful delivery of our strategy and lead on developing new partnerships that build financial sustainability of the charity and grow support for our wider network. Working with your small but mighty team and Home-Start staff and trustees across London, you will ensure we provide quality support to our network that drives increased impact. Director of Corporate Services

We are seeking to appoint 3 lay, 4 dispensing opticians and 7 optometrist members of the Hearings Panel members to our Hearings Panel.
About the GOC
We are the regulator for the optical professions in the UK. Our purpose is to protect the public by promoting high standards of education, performance and conduct.
About the Hearings Panel
The Hearings Panel is a mix of lay (non-registrant) and registrant members with different backgrounds, skills, knowledge and experience from whom members of the Fitness to Practise Committee (FtPC) and our Registration Appeals Committee (RAC) are drawn, in accordance with our Committee Constitution Rules.
The FtPC considers whether a registrant’s fitness to practise is impaired and imposes sanctions if appropriate to do so. This includes considering allegations, hearing evidence and determining the fitness to practise of a registrant. This can include individual registered optometrists and dispensing opticians, the fitness of business registrants to carry on business as an optometrist or a dispensing optician or both; and the fitness of student registrants to undertake training as an optometrist or dispensing optician. You will be responsible for sitting as part of a FtPC, which will consist of either 3 or 5 members (a mix of lay and registrant members) drawn from the Hearings Panel.
You do not have to be a legally qualified individual or have specialist medical knowledge to participate in the FtPC process. We are looking for individuals who can contribute effectively and impartially, ensuring that all allegations are considered fairly and independently, maintaining standards for registrants and the protection of the public.
A FtPC can also determine whether it is necessary for interim measures (suspension or conditions) to be put in place whilst an investigation is in progress for the protection of the public or in the interests of a registrant.

Remuneration and time commitment
This role requires a commitment of approximately 16-20 days per year for Lay Members, 12-16 days per year for Optometrist Members and 8-12 days per year for Dispensing Optician Members, including time spent preparing for meetings. Hearings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC offices in London or other suitable venues.
A daily fee of £319 is paid in line with our member fees policy and member fee schedule, and expenses can also be claimed.

Key Responsibilities
As part of the PBA Finance Team and leading the team, the Financial Advisor plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of PBA, offering strategic advice, ensuring compliance, and overseeing day-to-day financial operations. The Financial Advisor works closely with PBA’s Accounts administrator.
Key responsibilities are:
- Work with the core team on the annual Business Planning process and help devise and produce the annual Budget.
- Assist in the compilation and analysis of the Approval and circulation of monthly /quarterly financial and management accounts, including a brief narrative report.
- Offer high level advice and guidance in support of and to help achieve the targets set out in the Business Plan.
- Act as one Authorised Signatory on all bank accounts and manage relationships with external financial institutions and banking partners.
- Oversee and liaise with auditors for the annual audit and other matters as required from time to time.
- Ensure VAT compliance and reporting.
- Be familiar with the cover afforded by all insurance policies and provide information on matters that may affect cover. Ensure appropriate insurance policies are in place and up to date.
- Ensure timely payment of all taxes.
- Ensure all accounting policies are compliant with current accounting practices.
- Keep updated on all legislation that applies to the company and advise the core team and Board of Directors as appropriate.
- Maintain and update the company’s Statutory Register.
- Annual filing of Annual Return and audited accounts and updating Companies House for directors’ appointments and resignations via auditors and company secretarial advisors.

FINANCE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
Role Purpose
The Finance Manager will proactively plan, manage and oversee the financial strategy, operations, and compliance of our dynamic and growing organisation. The role contributes directly to the organisation’s strategic planning and has hands-on oversight of financial transactions, operations, compliance and reporting.
As the Finance Manager, you will be a member of the Executive leadership team working closely with the CEO on matters of financial strategy and business development - contributing to strategic decisions and providing financial guidance.
Main Objectives
- Provide leadership, in-depth knowledge and financial expertise to support the organisation’s strategy, business development and operations.
- Manage the day-to-day financial operations including payroll, payments, controls and cash flow to ensure sound financial management and accuracy around all financial routines and procedures. Also ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
- Lead on and manage financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting - working closely with the CEO.
- Lead on enhancing procedural efficiencies and streamlining in finance operations.
- Prepare statutory and management accounts. Manage the annual financial audit and implement recommendations.
- Provide and manage sound financial reporting and conduct financial analysis and financial modelling for business development.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
The role works closely with the CEO and is assisted by the Assistant Finance Manager and the Bookkeeper.
Financial Planning
- Lead on financial planning, budgeting and forecasting.
- Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making, highlighting key trends, opportunities and risks. Also scenario planning and financial modelling for growth and sustainability.
- Provide sound financial advice to the CEO, Executive and Trustees also assisting with business planning and strategy and business development.
Financial Management
- Lead on and manage the annual financial audit, including preparation, responding to auditors queries and implementation of recommendations, effectively and in a timely manner. Also filling with the Charity Commission and Companies House.
- Lead on the day-to-day management of financial operations to ensure sound financial management and accuracy of all financial routines and procedures.
- Monitor performance of actuals in relation to budget, income generation targets, approved expenditure and in relation to forecast. Note, analyse and comment on variations and propose adjustments.
- Prepare quarterly management accounts and reports for decision-making and planning.
- Advise on and manage investments and cashflow.
Governance: Policies, procedures and financial controls
- Ensure compliance with all requirements and standards in respect to Insurance, Companies House, Charities Commission and HMRC.
- Proactively lead on process improvements as we grow. Includes writing, reviewing and updating finance procedures and policies, in collaboration with the CEO and Executive colleagues.
- Ensure governance documents are up to date. Including Trustees appointment and resignation records, conflict-of-interest forms, and relevant submissions to Companies House.
- Monitoring and mitigating financial risks while maintaining robust internal controls. Also manage credit control and ensure that payments are received on time.

Accounting
- Supervise and review accounting tasks and records processed by the bookkeeper and the Finance Manager.
- Ensure timely, up to date and accurate accounting practice including journal entries, accruals, phasing and reconciliation.

About This Job
This is an exciting training role in Army Cadet Headquarters responsible for the coordination, development and implementation of strategic training policy across the Army Cadets.
