Fundraising is still a relatively new activity for DFN Project SEARCH and this role presents the opportunity to play a key part in its expansion to support the further growth of the charity and enable young adults with a learning disability to lead healthier, happier, and more independent lives.
This role will support the Director of Development in implementing DFN Project SEARCH’s fundraising strategy. To date the strategy has focused on securing a small number of larger gifts from philanthropic sources, such as trusts and foundations. We are now evolving the strategy to include growing income from high-net-worth individuals, companies, and individual giving.
This role will lead on the development and implementation of the strategy to secure income from high-net-worth individuals (between five and potentially seven figures) and will also work with the Director of Development and the Development Officer on securing income from, and stewarding, trusts, foundations, and statutory funders. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team there is also the opportunity to input to the wider strategy and development of the charity and support the Director of Development in their role as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
The team is currently made up of the Director of Development, Corporate Partnership Manager (reporting to the Director of Development), and the Development Officer (reporting to this new role).

An exciting position has arisen for a Major Donors Lead to join a renowned charity, dedicated to delivering social services and humanitarian aid to vulnerable individuals. Your role:
The Grantmaking Operations team sits within the Fund’s Operations department and is primarily focused on ensuring that resources are reaching frontline activist organizations. The team seeks to hire a Grants Specialist who will report to the Managers of Grantmaking Operations and manage the Fund’s most complex grantmaking programs.
The successful candidate will join a high-performing, enthusiastic grants management team, a deeply committed global staff, and an organization constantly learning and adapting to global contexts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
Grantmaking
- Manage due diligence and enhanced grantmaking protocols for a highly complex and high-volume portfolio of grants spanning 50+ countries.
- Inform the development and implementation of grantmaking plans, ensuring they are robust and responsive to changing contexts and needs.
- Research compliance and financial regulation for various country contexts as needed and flag potential areas of risk to the Manager of Grantmaking Policy and Models.
- Identify and flag operational challenges that may have an impact on programmatic grantmaking ambitions, potential donor commitments or grantmaking advisory bodies.
- Coordinate with Program and Grantmaking Operations to ensure grants and grantee relationships are managed according to their risk level and operating context.
- Together with Program, Fundraising and Finance teams coordinate grant recommendation processes and timeline for grantmaking portfolios.
- Prepare and organize applicant materials and prospective grantee documents for all LEF cohorts.
- Manage incoming grant proposals and evaluate eligibility of prospective grantees in line with grantmaking due diligence protocols.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for grantees, enhancing grantee relations and maintaining communication in multiple languages, including but not limited to English and Spanish.
- Coordinate translation of grant and program related materials in line with portfolio grantmaking, (i.e., ensuring all grant and program documents are tailored according to program initiatives and compliance needs)
- Participate (and lead as needed) in regular check-ins, strategic meetings and retreats to help coordinate the workflow of grantmaking, shape grantmaking budgets and collaboration with external stakeholders.
- Actively contribute to fundraising stages by integrating data-driven insights and compelling narratives in proposals and evaluation reports.
Database and Systems Administration
- Contribute to the management of the Fund’s grants management system.
- Maintain accurate grant and grantee records – updating grant, organization and contact records daily, updating budget trackers periodically and ensuring OFAC compliance.
- Generate reports and dashboards for colleagues across departments, as needed.
- Code all grantmaking requests and budgeting information.
- Enhance the grants management system functionalities, including coding and back-end development for improved user experience and data integrity.
- Collaborate with Grantmaking Operations colleagues to test new releases to grantmaking database, identifying improvements and addressing bugs.
- Contribute to the design and creation of the EOI and proposal forms in the grants management system.
- Facilitate the successful launch of newly implemented workflows and forms within the grants management system by identifying and assisting in the resolution of issues, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience.
- Support the design and implementation of grantee portals to facilitate efficient interactions and reporting.
- Collaborate with Grants Management colleagues to test new releases to grantmaking database, identifying improvements and addressing bugs.
Project Coordination
- Lead on GM internal projects; brainstorming and implementing workflow solutions to team endeavors, ensuring cohesive and aligned project reporting and closing.
- Provide support to the Manager of Grantmaking Systems & Projects
- Support engagement with all project stakeholders, gathering and integrating feedback to improve project management processes.
- Proactively identify risks associated with projects; recommending effective solutions to ensure successful implementation.
- Inform the scheduling and coordination of project activities, including meetings and deadlines, in coordination with Legal Empowerment Fund team.
- Document project outcomes and adaptations; ensuring learning is embedded in LEF grantmaking operations.
Your Team:
This position is part of the Fund’s Grantmaking Operations Team. The team is comprised of one Director, two Managers and four Specialists spread between the US and UK offices. This position will report to the Deputy Director of Grantmaking Operations and will be based in the UK or US.
You Have - Candidates should demonstrate the following range of skills, experience, and qualities:
- Three years of relevant work experience, e.g., managing workflows, projects, and processes + at least one year of complementary education or experience working in human rights, program, or fundraising
- Demonstrated experience navigating legal and financial frameworks in the UK/US and working knowledge of international grantmaking funding trends and nuances.
- Strong project management skills, including software and people and process management.

The Salvation Army, the UK’s leading social welfare charity, is seeking an experienced philanthropy professional to be responsible for a pipeline of approximately £5 million per year and work with their Fundraising Senior Leadership Team and wider Fundraising Department to drive income growth.

The role will be responsible for ensuring that The Salvation Army maintains and increases its impactful presence as one of the top 10 charities in the UK, and as a worldwide Christian Church that puts belief into action. The Head of Philanthropy will ensure high value relationships are well managed and the provision of steady income growth to fund the charity’s mission. This will involve maximising donations from existing supporters and investing in innovative fundraising activities to widen the number of high value supporters, trusts and companies giving to the organisation, as well as to drive retention and increase net income. The role will represent the Corporate, Trust and Major Donor teams across The Salvation Army.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in all aspects of philanthropy fundraising, as well as a strong understanding of the drivers and motivators of trust, major donor and corporate giving, and emerging trends. You will have a proven track of successful six figure fundraising in at least two of the following areas: corporate, trust and major donors. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with individuals across the organisation at all levels of seniority. You will also possess excellent leadership and people management skills.

You will successfully manage the fundraising and communications team of 2 staff compromising of the Database/Donor Manager and Communications/Engagement Manage to develop a strategic approach that aligns with the charity's annually agreed income and expenditure budgets. This involves setting clear goals, providing ongoing mentorship, and implementing performance metrics to ensure that the team is equipped to generate the necessary income to support the charity’s initiatives. Finally, you are an active member participating in the Senior Management Team contributing insights and strategies that align with the charity’s development goals. This collaborative effort is vital for shaping the direction of the organisation and ensuring that all initiatives are cohesively aimed at delivering our broader objectives. Main purposes of job
As our Charity Account Director within the Client Services team, you will play the lead role in driving business growth across the Charity sector in line with our 4-year plan that we launched at the start of this new financial year (April 2024).
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management, leading, inspiration and coaching of our Charity Account Management team (from Senior Account Managers to Account Executives, possibly Apprentices down the line), while at the same time looking after a select number of high value Charity partners.
This responsibility will involve you being constantly immersed in the daily activity, providing on the spot advice and coaching to our team, making a concerted effort to get to know each of our clients and an expert knowledge of our portfolio of services on offer. Main responsibilities
Client Strategic Influence: Will play a huge part in creating, influencing and implementing strategy for a very small number of extremely high value, lifelong clients surmounting to a multi-million pound portfolio. Without your involvement, our clients would struggle.
Inspiring, Mentoring, Coaching: We expect the successful candidate to have a huge passion for developing teams and individuals. You should gravitate towards people and be an inspirational figure that the team will want to seek knowledge and support from. You should have the ability to help integrate and intertwine individuals with their clients, making them an indispensable extension to their team.
Reporting Lead duties: All members of the Charity team will report into this role and the individual will be responsible for all aspects of people management.
Living in the Detail: With such a huge client base within the Charity sector, offering a variety of services (Merchandise, Design, Storage & Fulfilment), we expect the successful candidate to have the capacity and ambition to immerse themself in the detail, investing an incredible amount of time getting to know individual accounts and clients alike. Much of this will take place in “real life” through discussion with Account Managers and clients, though detail will also come from Synergist, our CRM platform.
Strategic Implementation: Able to support the development and implementation of commercial strategy with the aim being to accelerate the growth of Bluestep as a business and industry player. Adaptability will be required as trends and needs develop over time.
Client Relationship Management: Love & Care is central to everything we do (Net Promoter Score is a key metric that we have introduced to the business) and your philosophy must be focused around this. Our Love & Care Manager is the key to unlocking the rewards of this and a resource that must be utilised to the best of your ability. This role will require management and delegation of clients when the team are on leave.
Sales and Revenue Generation: This role will require integrated working with our Client Services Director and Marketing team to ensure that sales support is directed in the right areas at the right times. This ties in with our recruitment strategy and demands. With the candidate’s standing within the Charity community, we also expect this person to unlock significant opportunities within the sector.
Collaboration: This role works very closely with our Client Services Director, who has overall responsibility for all Client Services related activity, and our Love & Care Manager, who will underpin and support all operational and client requirements for the team. Generally, this role requires collaboration across the business in order to guarantee success.
Budget Management: Responsible for creating and monitoring annual, quarterly and monthly sales and GP margin budgets across the Charity sector by individual. Responsible for communicating and agreeing budgets across the team.
Reporting: Develop and update reporting tools that keep the team and management abreast of performance, including presentations within our fortnightly “Scrum” meetings. Prepare and present regular reports and updates to leadership.
Drive change on Industry Trends: Not only offering solutions both internally to Management and to clients in order that these are addressed, but playing a huge role in ensuring they are implemented. This person should be an influential member of the sector community.

Charity Account Director Experience
Proven experience in Senior roles within a merchandise and design agency or similar environment
Experience working with Not-for-profit organisations or in-house roles including Senior Fundraising Manager/Director (essential)

- We allow one day of remote working each week (increases to two days once 6 month probation period is complete)
