About us
Who we are
Signpost Stockport for Carers has a unique role in supporting unpaid carers at any or multiple points in their caring journey. We are an independent registered charity that offers practical and emotional support, information, training and activities to anyone providing unpaid care to a partner, relative, friend or neighbour in Stockport. This work starts with young carers, from six years old.
We define carers as anyone who looks after a relative, friend or neighbour who could not manage without their support. The 2021 Census shows that there are at least 27,000 adult carers in Stockport. Just over 5,000 adult carers are registered with Signpost with nearly 1,000 carers regularly accessing services. On average 700 new adult carers register with Signpost each year.
Carers may face a wide range of issues and challenges in adapting to their role. These include isolation, loneliness, financial difficulties, challenges with accessing support and stress. Our services are designed to enable carers to achieve the best outcomes through taking a person centred, strengths based approach.
We have an experienced, dedicated team, working together with partners across Stockport and Greater Manchester to ensure that carers are recognised, supported and valued.
Our culture and values
We have five core values; Connection. Compassion. Respect. Empowerment. Excellence.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Signpost Stockport for Carers is committed to being a diverse organisation that is truly representative of the communities we serve. We welcome and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, especially those with lived experience of having caring responsibilities
