About us
Who we are
WECIL is a leading Disabled People’s Organisation dedicated to promoting equality, independence, and inclusion for Disabled people. For over 25 years, we have been at the forefront of supporting and empowering Disabled people across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, B&NES and North Somerset. Our work is grounded in the Social Model of Disability, which means we focus on removing barriers and challenging discrimination, so that Disabled people can live the lives they choose.
People come to work at WECIL because they are passionate about making a real difference in their communities. As an organisation led by Disabled people, for Disabled people, WECIL offers a unique and supportive environment where employees are valued for their contributions and encouraged to grow. Working at WECIL isn’t just a job; it’s an opportunity to be part of a team that is dedicated to driving positive change, creating an inclusive society, and making sure that every voice is heard. Whether through direct service provision, advocacy, or community engagement, our staff find fulfilment in knowing that their work has a lasting impact.
Our culture and values
Our 2024 Employee Satisfaction Survey has once again highlighted WECIL as a supportive and rewarding place to work. We are thrilled to share that 100% of respondents said that they enjoy working at WECIL, expressed confidence in our Senior Leadership Team, and would recommend WECIL as a good place to work. 98% of employees are proud to tell others they work for WECIL, with a similar percentage affirming that WECIL values diversity. Every respondent said that they would use WECIL services for themselves, or recommend to family and friends, should the occasion arise.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Disability Confident Leader
As all of WECIL’s work is to support people with their disability-related challenges, personal lived experience of disability is always seen as a positive quality in candidates. We have a deep commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible workplace for Disabled people. As a Disability Confident Leader, we go beyond simply meeting legal obligations; we actively promote and share best practices in disability employment both within our organisation and across our wider community.
Mindful Employer
WECIL is a Mindful Employer, meaning we are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our staff. As part of this commitment, we provide access to Health Assured, a leading Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that offers 24/7 confidential support on a range of issues, including mental health, financial advice, and legal information.
Trauma Informed
As signatory to the Trauma-Informed BNSSG Pledge, WECIL affirmed our commitment to creating a supportive, compassionate environment for both our staff and the communities we serve. We are dedicated to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion through an intersectional lens, ensuring that our practices do not contribute to further harm but instead foster recovery and resilience. This commitment extends to our own workforce, as we prioritise the health and wellbeing of our staff, recognising the potential for work-related stress and trauma and implementing tools such as Reflective Practice support wellbeing.
