Sense has an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join us as our National Events Manager on a 6 month fixed term basis. You will be working flexibly between home and our head office in King's Cross, London.
We are looking for an experienced and proactive events manager to join our ambitious National Events team. This role will manage the recruitment, marketing and logistics of events within our National Events portfolio including our largest event, London Marathon, managing a team of 500 and raising over £1M, alongside managing events such as Paris Marathon. This role also manages one direct line report and has strategic oversight of their events. of the events that they manage.
Key responsibilities include:
- Successfully manage allocated events in the National Events portfolio, ensuring the events achieve their financial targets and generate net income and ensuring their continued success into the future.
- Working with the Head of Events to set and regularly monitor income and expenditure budgets, putting mitigation plans in place when needed.
- Lead on the product development of one to two new Sense-owned challenge products to re-engage warm supporters and engage cold audiences through smart data analysis and a good understanding of the challenge events market.
- Line manage a National Events Fundraiser, ensuring that they are achieving their core objectives, reach the KPIs for their Events and supporting their professional development.
- Lead on the development of the role’s event marketing, promotional and communication plans, ensuring these are fully implemented and adhered to.
- Play an active role in events strategy and planning meetings, contributing viable and carefully evaluated ideas and opportunities.
- Recruit and steward event participants and support other colleagues with this, as required.
Key skills and experience

The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention, is a newly developed role at the DEC, responsible for shaping and delivering new and existing supporter journeys for DEC individual, community and legacy donors, and leading a programme of improvement across all major contact points between the DEC and the public.
The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention will:
- Contribute to and develop DEC direct marketing strategies, including the refreshing, implementation and analysis of the DEC’s segmentation, to maximise future income and continually improve the retention of individual supporters for future emergency appeals,
- Lead on the production of retention and reporting back materials for individual and community supporters,
- Manage the development and maintenance of specific supporter journeys,
- Develop and oversee the materials and supporter positioning for a light touch and mainly reactive legacy marketing programme for the DEC.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategy and Planning
- Develop and implement the direct marketing retention strategy, ensuring that past learnings are built upon, and new ideas are tested.
- Develop and implement specific audience journeys for segments across both the life cycle of a DEC appeal and between appeals.

Fundraising

- Support the stewardship of community fundraisers and groups in conjunction with the Supporter Services team.

About the role
The Prospect Development and Donor Insights Manager is a new key position within the Development Office that will lead on strategic, data-driven insights to shape our fundraising strategy and maximise the University’s fundraising potential as we embark on the University’s biggest ever fundraising campaign.
You will manage the overall process of prospect development, including moves management and prospect strategy to support our fundraising campaign. You will provide strategic, data-driven guidance to frontline fundraisers ensuring optimal tracking and engagement of major gift prospect, including individuals, trusts & foundations and corporates, throughout the donor lifecycle. In addition, you will develop and strengthen a sustainable prospect pipeline in support of our fundraising campaign and fundraising priorities of the University.
Who are we looking for?
We seek someone with at least three years’ experience of prospect research and prospect management, with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate data into strategic recommendations. You will have exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and strategically with individuals and teams at all levels and across functions. We need someone who has experience of writing profiles, prospect identification, media tracking and good understanding of the Data Protection Act. Experience of maintaining and developing a prospect tracking system on a fundraising database and experience of data analysis and data visualisation is also sought.

About the role
The University of London’s Development Office is responsible for delivering philanthropic support for the strategic fundraising priorities of the University. Here's a summary of your key responsibilities:
- Provide inspirational leadership to the MQ Development Team, managing the current team of five to deliver our £3m 2025 budget

About you:
This role is for you, if you have fundraising experience with grants and foundations as well as corporate fundraising and/or new business acquisition experience. This means you will have experience in stewarding and securing new gifts from foundations as well as researching new opportunities to apply for funds.
You will also be skilled in understanding and translating complex information and turning it in to compelling written proposals, for grants, corporate partnerships and major donors.
You will be driven to ensure that projects are delivered to the highest possible standards and be a sophisticated communicator with the confidence to build relationships with and inspire colleagues and donors.

What will I be doing?
Collaborating with the Senior Manager to lead the implementation and communication of Cancer Research UK's Audience Framework.
Supporting the Senior Manager to deliver a programme of market insight & experience projects with a particular focus on segmentation and audience-centric projects.
Carrying out quantitative audience market data analysis using SPSS and Excel.
Using audience market data to advise colleagues across the Marketing, Fundraising & Events directorate on how best to approach our target audience.
Carrying out end-to-end market research projects which will include leading primary research projects and carrying out secondary data analysis.
Commissioning and managing market research agencies and consultants (including managing timelines, budgets, processes, data quality checks, and ensuring value for money).
Developing strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders helping them understand their insight requirements and ambitions.
What are you looking for?
Consumer-focused Research/ Insight professional with a background in quantitative market research techniques.
Strong quantitative analysis skills with experience handling large, complex market research data sets using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) or similar and advanced Excel.
Worked closely with Marketing teams to improve audience understanding and targeting.
Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills with an ability to communicate clearly and bring internal perspectives and external trends into your work.
Worked with audience segmentations or brand tracking is advantageous.
Proven background in project and agency management (including managing timelines, budgets, and processes) would be an advantage.
Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and meet deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail and effectively managing expectations.
