Sports & Community Centre Manager (permanent or interim role for 12 months)

Salary: £36k to £42k per annum (depending on experience) 35 hours per week average (flexible – would consider reduced hours) 25 days A/L + contributory pension scheme.

The Sports & Community Centre has a newly installed sports pitch, small gym, sports hall, and community halls/rooms. It also has a large outside field prime for development as part of our nature and wellbeing programmes in tandem with our second centre, our Nature & Wellbeing Centre by Edgbaston Reservoir.

The Centre hosts a wide range of community activities – Sports & Fitness, Little Settlers, Ageing Well, Training, Learning & Wellbeing, accredited Money Advice Services, and other social activities to bring people together to share and build community and personal wellbeing.

As Centre Manager and as a key member of the Settlements’ Management Team, you will manage and lead the Centre through this important phase of development, ensuring we are fit and focused for the years to come, delivering high-quality services and activities our people want, deserve, and expect. You will have energy and vision, a track record in community development and enterprise, excellent leadership qualities with ability to motivate and inspire others. This is a busy but rewarding hands on role that cuts across all aspects of the charity.

Your role:

The Grantmaking Operations team sits within the Fund’s Operations department and is primarily focused on ensuring that resources are reaching frontline activist organizations. The team seeks to hire a Grants Specialist who will report to the Managers of Grantmaking Operations and manage the Fund’s most complex grantmaking programs.

The successful candidate will join a high-performing, enthusiastic grants management team, a deeply committed global staff, and an organization constantly learning and adapting to global contexts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

Grantmaking

• Manage due diligence and enhanced grantmaking protocols for a highly complex and high-volume portfolio of grants spanning 50+ countries.
  • Inform the development and implementation of grantmaking plans, ensuring they are robust and responsive to changing contexts and needs.
  • Research compliance and financial regulation for various country contexts as needed and flag potential areas of risk to the Manager of Grantmaking Policy and Models.
  • Identify and flag operational challenges that may have an impact on programmatic grantmaking ambitions, potential donor commitments or grantmaking advisory bodies.
  • Coordinate with Program and Grantmaking Operations to ensure grants and grantee relationships are managed according to their risk level and operating context.
  • Together with Program, Fundraising and Finance teams coordinate grant recommendation processes and timeline for grantmaking portfolios.
  • Prepare and organize applicant materials and prospective grantee documents for all LEF cohorts.
  • Manage incoming grant proposals and evaluate eligibility of prospective grantees in line with grantmaking due diligence protocols.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for grantees, enhancing grantee relations and maintaining communication in multiple languages, including but not limited to English and Spanish.
  • Coordinate translation of grant and program related materials in line with portfolio grantmaking, (i.e., ensuring all grant and program documents are tailored according to program initiatives and compliance needs)
  • Participate (and lead as needed) in regular check-ins, strategic meetings and retreats to help coordinate the workflow of grantmaking, shape grantmaking budgets and collaboration with external stakeholders.
  • Actively contribute to fundraising stages by integrating data-driven insights and compelling narratives in proposals and evaluation reports.

Database and Systems Administration

• Contribute to the management of the Fund’s grants management system.
  • Maintain accurate grant and grantee records – updating grant, organization and contact records daily, updating budget trackers periodically and ensuring OFAC compliance.
  • Generate reports and dashboards for colleagues across departments, as needed.
  • Code all grantmaking requests and budgeting information.
• Enhance the grants management system functionalities, including coding and back-end development for improved user experience and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with Grantmaking Operations colleagues to test new releases to grantmaking database, identifying improvements and addressing bugs.
  • Contribute to the design and creation of the EOI and proposal forms in the grants management system.
  • Facilitate the successful launch of newly implemented workflows and forms within the grants management system by identifying and assisting in the resolution of issues, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience.
  • Support the design and implementation of grantee portals to facilitate efficient interactions and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Grants Management colleagues to test new releases to grantmaking database, identifying improvements and addressing bugs.

Project Coordination

• Lead on GM internal projects; brainstorming and implementing workflow solutions to team endeavors, ensuring cohesive and aligned project reporting and closing.
• Provide support to the Manager of Grantmaking Systems & Projects
  • Support engagement with all project stakeholders, gathering and integrating feedback to improve project management processes.
  • Proactively identify risks associated with projects; recommending effective solutions to ensure successful implementation.
  • Inform the scheduling and coordination of project activities, including meetings and deadlines, in coordination with Legal Empowerment Fund team.
  • Document project outcomes and adaptations; ensuring learning is embedded in LEF grantmaking operations.

Your Team:

This position is part of the Fund’s Grantmaking Operations Team. The team is comprised of one Director, two Managers and four Specialists spread between the US and UK offices. This position will report to the Deputy Director of Grantmaking Operations and will be based in the UK or US.

You Have - Candidates should demonstrate the following range of skills, experience, and qualities:

• Three years of relevant work experience, e.g., managing workflows, projects, and processes + at least one year of complementary education or experience working in human rights, program, or fundraising
• Demonstrated experience navigating legal and financial frameworks in the UK/US and working knowledge of international grantmaking funding trends and nuances.
• Strong project management skills, including software and people and process management.
• Initiative and strong sense of follow up, demonstrating the ability to keep track of multiple streams of cross-sectional work, and drive forward momentum.
• Diplomacy and the ability to manage sensitive data in a confidential and appropriate manner.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
• Exceptional and consistent attention to detail while managing complex tasks and/or large work portfolios in a fast-paced, complex environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communica6tion skills with the ability to convey information accurately and listen effectively.
• Working knowledge of databases and proficiency in Microsoft Office Teams among other applications
• Strategic and analytical thinker; anticipates the impact of changes—small and large on workflows and process.
• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Fluent in English and strong working proficiency in Spanish (written and verbal)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (I.E. NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT CRITICAL)

• Experience in a non-profit environment; grants management experience at private or public foundation a plus.
• Experience in or demonstrated interest in human rights and/or social justice issues.
• Additional language proficiency, especially in Spanish, Arabic, or French.
• Familiarity with US and/or UK non-profit compliance requirements and best practices.
• Familiarity with grants management systems, especially Fluxx.

NEF are looking for a talented Senior Economist to lead our policy and research work on social policy issues, with a particular focus on social security, work and incomes.

In this role, you would help NEF to make the case for an adequate and supportive social security system, both to reduce poverty but also to improve conditions in the labour market and help more people into good jobs. Alongside this, you will also support with wider work on housing and public services.

This role will manage an exciting programme of work at a critical time, following the recent change of government. You will use your outstanding technical expertise and project management experience to design and deliver quality, cutting-edge research capable of winning changes in policy and public opinion.

You will be a passionate champion of our work – influencing policy and decision makers in government, the civil service political parties, as well as civil society organisations and media who are shaping the debate. This will be a fantastic opportunity for someone who can demonstrate progressively senior responsibility and impact in an economist role, and who is looking for their next challenge.

You will bring outstanding technical skills and subject knowledge, as well as a good understanding of how to effect changes in policy and practice. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be an effective project manager, line manager and fundraiser.

Hours of work: NEF operates a Shorter Working Week, with a full-time equivalent of 32 hours per week. The Role

About this role

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator will ensure that communications and marketing priorities are implemented across the organisation to build brand awareness and reputation, increase reach and engagement across key stakeholder groups (funders, learners, coordination bodies, strategic partners), support fundraising activities, as well as contribute to RedR’s positioning within relevant sectors.The post holder will have exceptional communication and organisational skills with a keen eye for detail and an interest in learning and development within RedR’s thematic areas.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Development and implementation of yearly comms and marketing plan with support from Associate Director of Business Development and Programmes
• Produce regular website, social media and communications content as well as newsletters to maintain engagement and improve our reach across our members, supporters, funders and other target audiences
• Website maintenance and improvements in coordination with relevant staff, centralising efforts to ensure the functionality of the website and key integrations with third party platforms
• Support programme staff with creation of new resources and materials for our projects Support fundraising efforts including public appeals through content development, design and project management with external suppliers

Social Media and website

• Maintain and build RedR UK’s social media presence, ensuring social media channels are populated with engaging content with a consistent, strong voice reflecting RedR’s strategy to maximise potential for exposure among target audiences
• Manage a calendar of social media and website activity
• Work with the Associate Director of Programmes and Business Development to create and develop campaigns (including fundraising and awareness raising campaigns) to be run across social media platforms

• Act as the primary point of contact for queries received through social media and inbound emails, ensuring they are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner

• Stay abreast of comms and marketing trends and propose new and innovative approaches to increase outreach, engagement and fundraising income
• Produce in-house marketing materials and templates including event brochures, proposal templates, illustrations for reports/proposals, graphics and videos using platforms such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint and other editing tools
• Produce and disseminate high quality regular newsletters, and support with production of speeches and letters
• Identify inspiring impact stories and produce written and occasional films case studies and other content for use by the Fundraising and Programmes teams, supporting
• Support programme teams wishing to undertake communications activities as part of a grant/funded project; ensure that institutional donors’ communications activities and visibility requirements are respected
• Lead on emergency communications, in close coordination with the Associate Director of Programmes and Business Development
• Champion and monitor the use of RedR brand and style guidelines; to develop messaging guidelines and ensure they are adhered to across the organisation and to support other departments to develop their messaging and material.

• Lead and coordinate the drafting of RedR’s Annual Report, liaising with staff across the organisation for input

Background information about Student Action for Refugees:

Student Action for Refugees is the national network of students building a society where refugees and asylum seekers are welcomed and can thrive. Set up by students at the University of Nottingham in 1994, we are an inclusive network with UK students, students from refugee backgrounds and international students working together to make change. 

We are a membership charity and the members are STAR student union society groups. A small staff team train and support the network and lead on national projects, campaign and advocacy work.

People who arrive in the UK after fleeing war and persecution face many challenges in both claiming their right to asylum and in building new lives. Challenges that result from a hostile policy environment, negative public attitudes, unhelpful media narrative, a lack of access to services and barriers to higher education. 

Our network of STAR student societies and activists is creating a more understanding, just and welcoming society. We do this by: providing practical support and connecting communities through local and national volunteering activities; improving access to university; campaigning for policy change; learning and sharing information about asylum and the lived experience of refugees to shift the narrative. 

Impact: Last year, our network of STAR student groups spanned 39 universities and were run by 213 student leaders. We supported 741 refugees and people seeking asylum in 30 community projects and hosted 345 events to train & inform people about asylum and community projects and hosted 345 events to train & inform people about asylum and refugees

Together we:

● Campaigned for the right to work for asylum seekers, an end to immigration detention, improved refugee family reunion rights and improved access to university and more. 

● Volunteered in partnership with 21 local charities recruiting 323 STAR student volunteers for 30 projects supporting 741 refugees – providing academic support for volunteers for 30 projects supporting 741 refugees – providing academic support for children, English conversation clubs, sports clubs, fun community events and more.

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Policy Officer for Charity Regulation and Special Projects to drive policy development on issues such as fundraising, volunteering and charity retail.

In this role you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of charity regulation and policy for British Heart Foundation (BHF) and will coordinate our responses to legislative changes, support our influencing work, and drive policy development on key strategic projects.

Collaborating with internal and external colleagues, as well as sector bodies, you'll coordinate our response to key policy developments to help BHF maximise the impact of its volunteers, generous public support and our large network of shops and stores.

You'll also help shape our policy calls on other areas of importance to BHF, including Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest, and will work with the wider policy and public affairs team to engage decision-makers on our priorities.

Working arrangements

Whilst this role is a full-time (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday) opportunity, we're also open to candidates wishing to work part-time. The minimum part-time commitment is 21 hours per week (3 days per week: preferably Monday, Tuesday, and a third day of your choice).

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.
