Business & Human Rights Resource Centre seeks a highly skilled and motivated Development Officer with a strong background in grant writing. The ideal candidate will have exceptional English language communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and a proven track record in supporting teams to secure funding for mission-driven organisations. The successful candidate will play a critical role in helping our organisation grow by crafting compelling donor communication (including reports and applications), identifying new funding opportunities from across the European private funding community, and building relationships internally and externally.
Reports to: Deputy Director/Director of Development
Salary: GBP 34,000 – 37,000, commensurate with experience and adjusted according to location (the range is aligned to London cost of living; if based in another location, the range will be adjusted accordingly)

About the position
This position is ideal for an experienced grant writer who is interested in being a member of our growing and dynamic Development Team (4.5 FTE) that raises about £5 million annually to support the Resource Centre’s work with partners and allies across the world. You will work closely with an experienced team of fundraising and MEAL specialists, based on five continents, to ensure the highest quality products for our private and public funder audiences (foundations, multilateral and government agencies, and individuals in all regions.) The successful candidate will also work with Global Team members to support efforts to grow our funding base from private foundations across Europe.
Key Responsibilities
WRITING
- Build strong working relationships with teams across the organisation to gather information and collaboratively shape donor materials, including but not limited to: Executive Director’s updates, letters of inquiry, case for support, formal applications, funding reports, individual appeals, and Annual Impact Report.
- Develop, edit, and submit high-quality written and digital applications that clearly articulate BHRRC's mission, vision and impact (and/or that of BHRRC’s specific priority programmes) to foundations, and relevant government agencies, building a compelling case for funders to support BHRRC.
- Demonstrate appetite for learning BHRRC’s core advocacy objectives and approaches, and their evolution, in order to be able to contribute substantively to proposal development.
- Lead the generation of funding reports, in partnership with Development Team members and international and regional programme teams, to ensure funder requirements are met.
- Use our CRM database (Salesforce) to manage calendar for grant submissions, renewals, and reporting to ensure Development Team is on track and deadlines are met.
- Track and report on the success of funding applications, providing regular updates to the Senior Management Team.
RESEARCH & FUNDRAISING
- Research, identify, and evaluate new funding opportunities throughout the EU and analyse funding requirements, eligibility, and fit with BHRRC’s mission and strategic goals. Present recommendations for approaching strong prospects to the Senior Management Team.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of European funding prospects/opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Deputy Director/Director of Development and the Europe Development Manager to design and implement a strategic fundraising plan for the EU, focused on expanding institutional support for BHRRC.
- Build and maintain relationships with select EU funders, ensuring proper stewardship and communication.
- Monitor trends in European philanthropy that may influence BHRRC’s approach to institutional fundraising, and keep informed of emerging opportunities.
ORGANISATIONAL
- Work with Development and Communications Teams to ensure all organisational documents used for fundraising are updated. Suggest and create new materials.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a shared system of information management for programmes and organisational data used in funding reports.
- Participate in the development of BHRRC’s fundraising strategies, and organisational policies and guidelines related to fundraising.
- Pursue ongoing professional development through a collaborative goal-setting process, which provides opportunities for both reflection and forward planning.
Essential skills and experience
- 3+ years of foundation/government fundraising experience, with an emphasis on grant writing.
- Exceptional writing skills and demonstrated ability to develop original proposals, reports, and other donor correspondence. Strong ability to express ideas clearly both in written and oral communications.
- Able to work efficiently and methodically to support achievement of deliverables; strong prioritization skills; self-motivated and organised; and comfortable working independently within agreed framework while maintaining communication with a global team in different time zones and geographies.
- Experience collaborating with culturally diverse teams with the ability to effectively lead and manage projects as well as harness team creativity.
- Strong research skills, with the ability to identify appropriate grant sources.
- Highly-developed project management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks as needed based on deadlines and workflow.
- The ability to grasp, analyse, summarise, and present complex information coherently to external audiences is required.
- Experience thinking critically about impact is required.
- Strong commitment to human rights, and to the mission and values of the Resource Centre. An understanding of business and human rights issues in a global context is a plus.
- Proficiency using Office 365 (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint). Familiarity with fundraising software or CRM tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit and induct new volunteers to support our services, working with the Services Director and the Training & Outreach Lead. Work with the service managers to review training and update training modules.
-Ensure there is appropriate training, support, supervision and acknowledgement for all volunteers and ensure recruitment and processes comply with the charity’s values & EDI requirements
-Research and write volunteer policies and procedures, including risk assessments.
-Support and recruit volunteer community leaders; work with them to aim for consistent quality across the groups experience and develop an online training programme for leaders, and longer term, put a funding case together to support a training weekend for community leaders.
-Keep records on which community groups are active and identify areas of need and feedback mechanisms.
-Work with Content & Communications Lead to produce regular mailings for volunteers and recruitment drives and promote volunteering through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns.
-Keep up to date with legislation and policy related to volunteering and make any necessary modifications to accommodate changes.
-Maintain the database of volunteers + ensure all volunteers are registered members.
-Manage budgets and resources, including the reimbursement of volunteer expenses.

Responsibilities
Strategic Communication and Transformation:
- Develop and execute a new international communications strategy to enhance ProVeg’s visibility and highlight the successes of the country offices.
- Establish ProVeg as a leading voice in plant-based nutrition and sustainable food systems through targeted campaigns and media outreach.
- Design and implement processes for effectively and quickly adapting country-specific developments for international communication.
- Oversee the development of content and own and third party channel strategies to maximise engagement with diverse B2B and B2C audiences.

Fundraising Support and Collaboration:

- Balance B2B and B2C communications priorities to maintain positive brand perception.
Leadership Responsibilities:

Internal and External Collaboration:

Qualifications
Required:
- Proven experience in strategic communication in NGOs with an international focus, including those with a presence in the global south.
- Track record of developing targeted communications strategies to drive engagement with different audiences, including B2B and B2C.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute communications strategies that drive advocacy goals and influence policymakers.
- Excellent skills in media relations and leading complex or multi-country communication projects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and transform teams in an international context.
- Experience in fostering creativity, innovation, and collaboration within teams.
- Experience with visual media (videos, infographics, etc.).
- Expertise in crisis communication and managing brand perception.
- Experience in crafting inclusive messaging and ensuring culturally appropriate communications across diverse regions and audiences.

Key Responsibilities
To work closely with the Evidence & Advocacy Manager (EAM) to develop and implement a series of impactful evidence and research projects that support our advocacy messaging, as well as internal and external learning for inclusive programmes and advisory work. These projects will build on established workstreams alongside developing new ones to maintain and extend CBM UK’s evidence base.
Disability Evidence, Policy Research and Learning
With EAM support the ongoing CBM UK Research and Evidence workstream, through:
1. Translating evidence from our programming countries and projects to produce and contribute to a range of resources to influence FCDO and other stakeholders. Tasks to include managing and maintaining established outputs, such as the CBM UK Project Evidence Briefs and Disability Voices paper series, generating new thematic papers, as well as policy and position papers to enhance effective advocacy submissions, briefing notes, blogs and other messaging on key disability rights issues.
2. Working collaboratively within CBM UK and across CBM Global to help develop and to deliver new policy research, drawing on mixed methods and data sources including national and international databases, using qualitative approaches including participatory or citizen generated data, and new empirical work.
3. Supporting Programme staff to improve impact and learning practice in CBM UK funded projects, provide technical support for the implementation of programme related research and data collection, including MEAL.
4. Providing technical research support into the development of proposals for new grant funded projects, and, where successful, support the management of subsequent research projects.
5. Keeping abreast of new research and publications on key themes and priority concerns within the CBM UK Advocacy and Influencing Strategy, taking into consideration sector trends and developments, and ensure this is disseminated to relevant staff within the CBM UK Team.
6. Keeping watch on UK policy environment and conducting research and analysis to support CBM UK advocacy messaging on disability and human rights.
Dissemination and Communications
1. Maintaining and developing internal knowledge management systems for research and information on disability inclusion and rights, and related areas, to be used by Advocacy, Programmes and Fundraising & Communications teams.
2. Ensuring communication plans are developed with CBM UK and Global Federation colleagues for CBM UK evidence outputs.
3. Maintaining the Advocacy and Influencing pages of the CBM UK website ensuring rights-based communication and focus to support CBM UK and Global campaigns.
4. Liaison with Fundraising & Communications colleagues to amplify media stories, case studies and compelling evidence from country programming for advocacy purposes.
5. Participation in and building good relationships with UK-based disability and development networks, including relevant research networks and membership of the BOND Disability and Development Group.
6. Supporting the professional publication and printing of CBM UK outputs, for dissemination at advocacy engagements and public events.

1. Work with other CBM UK teams to maximise cross fertilisation opportunities and integrated working.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a social welfare role supporting individuals and will have strong people and relationship-building skills, as well as empathy with or understanding of issues affecting the Armed Forces community.
This is a community-based position working from home (ideally based in Nottinghamshire) but covering the East Midlands region. The candidate must have their own vehicle for use of traveling around the region. Occasional travel to London will be required. Mellon Educate is an Irish-based African development charity founded by Niall Mellon in 2002. From the enormous collective effort of their volunteers, in conjunction with the South African government, they have built houses for 250,000 homeless people in South Africa’s townships.
In 2013, the charity redoubled its commitments to those less fortunate in Africa, pledging a 10-year education development programme to provide better education to more than 100,000 African children.
Mellon Educate wishes to recruit a Grant Writer on a part-time OR full-time basis with specific experience and a proven track record of success in educational grant applications in Sub-Saharan Africa from medium and large sized international funders, sovereign donors, corporate and philanthropic foundations and institutional donors.
Role Purpose:
This is a brand-new position that has been created to increase Mellon Educate’s capacity to secure grants on a global scale. The Grant Writer will be responsible for identifying suitable funding opportunities and coordinating, preparing and writing funding applications.
The successful candidate will work with colleagues to develop and implement Mellon Educate’s strategic approach to funding against agreed key performance indicators. This role requires an enthusiastic self-starter, with good knowledge of educational grant-writing, exceptional persuasive writing and organisational skills and a good knowledge of the South African education system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for identifying, preparing, producing and submitting grant applications and funding proposals.
- Writing and editing high quality and compelling content for competitive proposal processes and other fundraising materials as required.
- Researching, exploring and identifying new grant and funding opportunities which support Mellon Educate’s current strategic objectives.

We are currently looking for a Head of Growth, Development & Outreach to cover 12 months maternity leave.
About the role
Reporting to the Director of Young People, Volunteer & Business Support the postholder will provide our disbursed team of Growth & Development Workers with clear management, guidance, support and advice on growth, development, volunteer recruitment and retention. The role will coordinate and drive forward our work in these area, helping the Sea Cadets to make a difference to the lives of even more young people across the UK.
The postholder will have excellent management, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage a diverse workload and operate in a collaborative way with others. They will have an understanding of issues facing volunteering, recruitment, retention and growth in voluntary organisations and the effective management and support of remote workers is essential.
Responsibilities
The following is a list of the principal tasks of the Head of Growth, Development & Outreach and is not intended to be an exhaustive list:
- Provide line management for the Project Coordinators, Growth & Development Team Leaders and through them the Growth & Development Workers.
- Providing both management support and technical advice on growth, development and volunteer recruitment, retention and support functions.
- Contribute to the strategic development and sustainable growth of The Sea Cadets nationally.
- Lead and manage the effective implementation of new and ongoing projects that support outreach, growth, development, volunteer and/or cadet recruitment and retention, including but not limited to externally funded projects, liaising with and reporting to funders as required
- Support and advise employees, volunteers and others on the growth and development of the Sea Cadets.
Requirements
- Experience of managing and supporting a disbursed staff team
- Experience of successful growth & development in a community organisation context
- Experience of working with volunteers and a good understanding of how to ensure they are effectively recruited, managed and supported
- Experience of working and/or volunteering in a voluntary youth organisation
- Experience of delivering externally funded projects through the effective support and management of both staff and volunteers
- Experience of liaising with and reporting to external funders
