We are looking for an energetic Immigration Adviser (OISC Level 2) to provide advice and casework to destitute migrants, including mothers accessing the Magpie Project.
Praxis Community Projects is a dynamic, award-winning human rights charity supporting migrants in crisis or at- risk, ensuring that their essential human needs are met and that they are able to overcome the barriers they face. We provide legal advice and a range of welfare support including group work. We build community, challenge exclusion and discrimination, influence policy, improve services and inspire solidarity with migrants.
The Magpie Project is a community space that supports mothers with under 5-year olds who are subject to the No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) Condition. A key part of this role will involve outreach at The Magpie Project’s community center in Newham where immigration assessments will be undertaken. As the community centre is a women-only space, the post-holder will need to be a woman so they can attend outreach. The postholder will also carry a caseload of cases from the Magpie Project, as well as other avenues when the need arises.
The partnership with Magpie aims to provide immigration advice services directly in a community space where trust has already been established, and where mums can access a variety of other support services at the same location.
The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of immigration and asylum law, as well as have a good understanding of the challenges faced by migrants with NRPF and those at risk of homelessness. They will be able to step immediately into a busy advice environment that includes independent outreach.

PURPOSE OF THE POST
As Community Social Action Officer you will work within our delivery areas to support develop, facilitate a vibrant, dynamic and connected voluntary and community sector in Ealing, overseeing the delivery of a range of community activities working closely with stakeholders in Acton including residents, voluntary and community organisations and local businesses.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Identifying local community needs and priorities.
•Organise and deliver activities for residents.
•Identifying, developing and supporting events and partnership projects
•Bringing an entrepreneurial approach to development and collaborative opportunities.
•Support people to connect to their community through active involvement e.g. volunteer positions, leisure and social to recued isolation.
•Create opportunities, take initiative, use creative approaches for relationship building.
•Support people to be regular consumers of local services.
•Provide opportunities to explore a variety of experiences.
•Support people to have valued roles and be full members of their community.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•To contact businesses through social media
•To ensure local residents from hard to reach communities or isolated areas of the local area have access to activities opportunities
•To coordinate regular training and events to promote activities opportunities and the benefits of activities for individuals according to an agreed work plan
•To empower local volunteers to develop the skills to progress from supporting roles to taking lead.
•To provide weekly drop-in sessions for residents and community groups
•To support VCS groups and individual residents to design, develop and implement a wide range of social action activities, including campaigns, sponsorship events and volunteering.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION
•To record monitoring information; review progress of current projects on a weekly basis and manage upwards.
•Prepare written evaluation reports for EHCVS, projects and services.

OTHER DUTIES

•To undertake, as identified by EHCVS’s Board of Trustees any occasional additional duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the post which may not be purely related to this role.
•To ensure that all social action activities are inclusive, including making logistical adjustments to the activity to support the participation of all interested members of the community
•To conduct risk assessments prior to any planned volunteering and social action activity and give briefings to all participants
•To record monitoring information and report progress of current projects on a weekly basis and complete monitoring and evaluation reports for funders
•To be able to work flexibly including one Saturday morning per month and occasional evenings and be willing to travel to Ealing outreach locations as required
Experience & Abilities

Over the last few years, NHYC has grown to a team of over 70 staff. This role will add capacity to our current Admin Team, supporting the organisation with increased demand around finance, admin and resources. You will work as part of a small, yet critical team to ensure the organisation and our services run smoothly. BGCI is seeking to appoint a Conservation Assistant Officer to support the delivery of BGCI’s tree conservation programme. Part of this role will include gathering data from our global network on current conservation actions for threatened tree species to help prioritise where future conservation efforts are needed. The data is collated in the Conservation Action Tracker that can be viewed via BGCI’s GlobalTree Portal. The appointed person will also support the delivery and expansion of BGCI’s conservation planning work for threatened tree species. Candidates for this post will be self-motivated, demonstrate an interest in plant conservation and have a record of data collection and report writing. They will support the facilitation of multi-stakeholder workshops and therefore must have good social and listening skills.

The Role:
The Unlawful Detentions Teams Caseworker will undertake a range of casework activities in support of Reprieve’s work on cases of unlawful detention, which comprises our work on detention cases in North East Syria (NES), and our Guantánamo Bay and Life after Guantánamo Projects.
About our NES work
There are currently thousands of people indefinitely detained in camps and prisons in NES, in conditions the UN has found to be inhumane and degrading. Reprieve aims to ensure that individuals detained in Syria are treated in line with international law, and not subjected to the death penalty, extrajudicial execution, arbitrary detention, torture or rendition. Where possible, we advocate for the release and repatriation of foreign nationals detained in NES, many of whom are victims of trafficking and / or minors. We also advocate for and support clients and their children after their release from arbitrary detention.
Through our work we also aim to challenge and change flawed ‘war on terror’ narratives and legal and political frameworks – including in the UK, Europe and the US – that engender state-sanctioned discrimination and abuse and undermine the rule of law and human rights and sometimes create two-tiered layers of citizenship rights for ethnic minorities in Western countries. For example, the British people detained in NES are often arbitrarily deprived of their citizenship, under powers that are used almost exclusively against Muslims, mainly of South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African heritage. This is done in an attempt to place them outside the reach of the law, and to avoid giving them the consular and legal protections to which they are entitled as citizens.
About our Guantánamo work
Reprieve was one of the very first organisations allowed inside Guantánamo. Since then, we have secured freedom for more than 80 men illegally detained without charge or trial – more than any other organisation. Our unique Life after Guantánamo (LAG) project helps prisoners who have been released from Guantanamo but still face extreme human rights abuses related to their status as former Guantanamo detainees.

Length and Salary
This is a full-time role on a fixed term, 12 month contract subject to extension depending on funding. The annual salary is £42,193 full-time per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.
This role is based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work 2 days per week from the London office and the rest of the week from home. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK currently and for the duration of the contract which will be checked prior to interview.
