Overview of the role:

Great Yarmouth Pathway is a transforming place of light, love & engagement for the community of Great Yarmouth supporting those in need. We are seeking to recruit Trustees with an interest in helping others, who are willing to uphold our values, and who can bring life experience to the board of trustees. Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, are responsible for setting organisational policy, and ensure that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees, Managers & Volunteers.

Key tasks:                                

• Manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
• Ensure the board regularly reviews its structures, roles, relationship to staff and implementing changes if and when necessary.
• Develop a long-term strategy for the food bank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
• Work alongside the Treasurer and the board to ensure the charity’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.
• Ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• Help promote the charity to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
• Ensure the charity and foodbank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• Act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• Prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
• Provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.
• Act at all times in accordance with the foodbank’s trustee code of conduct.
• Ensure the principles of equity, equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded in Yarmouth and Magdalen Foodbank and help deliver public benefit.

Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set. 

HMC delivers a free, weekly advice and support service for vulnerable migrants most of whom lack secure immigration status, have pending asylum claims, have insecure accommodation, or are facing destitution.  

Our staff team of 11 are dedicated to assisting our visitors in resolving immigration challenges, overcoming homelessness, access to health and other support services as well as destitution.   

HMC’s work is supported by over 60 dedicated volunteers, and we collaborate closely with several partner organisations to ensure visitors can access specialist legal advice and long-term support.  

We have a budget of around £450,000 a year and employ a Fundraising Officer.   

 

Being a trustee of Hackney Migrant Centre  

The trustees of Hackney Migrant Centre (HMC) play a vital role in the organisation. They are responsible for ensuring that that its services are maintained and developed for the benefit of its visitors, in line with HMC’s ethos and objectives.  

HMC staff are responsible for the day-to day running of HMC’s services, but trustees work closely with staff in discussing and deciding on policy issues, staffing developments and campaigning, overseeing finance and fundraising, to ensure that the organisation is financially sustainable and monitor the impact of HMC’s services. 

Trustees are encouraged to gain first-hand experience of the work of HMC, but regular volunteering is not a requirement.  

 Specific qualities of human resources (HR) trustee 

· Currently or formerly employed in a senior HR role. 

· Experience of performance management, HR/employment law issues and implementing them contextually. 

· Able to demonstrate a good understanding of current developments in HR, staff and development training, and recruitment. 

· Willingness to lead, where appropriate, and participate in discussions concerning the needs of the employees and volunteers. 

What are trustees expected to do?

All trustees are expected to attend the ordinary trustees’ meetings as well as other meetings and events. The main activities which HMC trustees are involved in are: 

· Ordinary trustee meetings: these are the major decision-making forum for trustees. They are held in the evenings every three months, in a local venue, and generally last around two hours. There are also occasional special meetings when necessary.  

· Trustee away days: we organise an annual review and planning session which takes place on a Saturday, normally for half a day, in a local venue. 

· Sub-committee meetings: we currently have a Finance and Fundraising and an Employment Sub-committee. These meet every three months, or as necessary. Any decisions/proposals are reported to the full board for discussion/approval. 

· Other events: HMC organises or supports a number of other fundraising, campaigning and social events. Trustees are encouraged to participate where possible and may take a role in organising events, in collaboration with staff and volunteers. 

What are the main responsibilities of trustees? 

 Hackney Migrant Centre is a charitable company limited by guarantee. It is registered with the Charity Commission which states that the six main duties of trustees are to:  

1. Ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit 

2. Comply with the charity’s governing document and the law 

3. Act in the charity’s best interests 

4. Manage the charity’s resources responsibly 

5. Act with reasonable care and skill 

6. Ensure the charity is accountable 

What are trustees expected to have?

· An understanding of the issues facing migrants and refugees. 

· A commitment to the aims of HMC and to its visitors. 

· A demonstrable commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles and practice. 

· Willingness to take an active role on the trustee board, to speak their mind and to evaluate decisions critically. 

· An ability to work effectively as a member of a team for the good of HMC. 

· An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of being a trustee.

The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) is seeking a new Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of local people with mental health conditions? We are looking  a Trustee who can think strategically and complement the existing Board.

Mental Health Resource is a well-established, independent charity based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Our aim is to improve mental wellbeing in our community by enabling people to feel supported and valued, providing opportunities for social connections and by raising awareness of mental health. We deliver high quality and effective services across West Kent providing safe spaces and person-centred mental health support.

We provide comprehensive services with both a focus on short term and long-term mental health support, enabling people to access our projects for as longs as they want or need support. Our beneficiaries have complex and enduring mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-harming, psychosis, schizophrenia and bi-polar and, on average, we work with over 900 adults and young people each year.  

About the Trustee roles

You would be working with other trustees who have different skills, knowledge and experience. It's an interesting role in which you can help formulate ideas about how we as an organisation can best address the challenges and opportunities that exist in an increasingly complex and changing environment.

We would love to hear from you if you have a true interest in helping to improve the lives of those with mental health conditions in our community, and especially if you have skills or experience in working in a charity or in finance. No experience of being a trustee is necessary.

You would be expected to attend and participate in six Board meetings per year which are held via Teams/Zoom and last 2-3 hrs. The Board is also supported by two sub-committees: Finance and Risk and Marketing and Fundraising, which meet four times a year, and trustees are encouraged to also be a member of one of the sub-committees.

Online and in person, our parents’ groups, events, resources, podcasts and talks offer mutual support, information and inspiration to adopters and those considering adoption. The Role

We are looking for new trustees to strengthen and enhance our board. The key responsibilities of the role include, governance, overseeing policy and direction, financial oversight and assisting with the leadership and general promotion of We Are Family to support the organisation’s Vision, Mission, Values and needs.

This is a voluntary opportunity with associated Trustee expenses -  such as travel / childcare -  covered by We Are Family.  Trustees can be based anywhere in the UK. 

Commitment

Trustee capacity to devote the time needed for the following is essential:

• 4 Board meetings per year

• 2 Board away days per year (on a Saturday)

• Membership of at least one sub-committee (which also meet 4 times a year)

We estimate 8-10 hours for the charity per month. The duration of membership for a new Board member is for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of appointment for a further three year term.

Skills and Experience 

All applicants should be able to demonstrate the following:

• Be able to show high levels of professionalism and an ability to work collaboratively with others, including Trustees, our core team and the wider Volunteer network at We Are Family

• Be well-organised, with good written and verbal communication skills.

• Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds. A thorough induction, and further trustee training as appropriate, can be provided. 

We are particularly interested candidates with the following experience:

• Working as a professional with or in the adoption sector,

• Advocacy and/or research work;

• Finance/charity finance

• Leadership within a charity

• Education 

• Legal.

Although many of our current trustees are adopters themselves, we are also keen to recruit suitably qualified people who are not, but who can demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of We Are Family.

One of the great strengths of We Are Family is that we are volunteer and member driven, and we represent a diverse community of adoptive parents. We particularly welcome trustees from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds to ensure that the board can benefit from this diversity of experience. Overview of the role:

 Warwick District Foodbank are seeking someone with experience of working in a financial role to join the Board as a Trustee, who will be able to advise on financial matters, ensure we meet our financial obligations and help us build a sound financial strategy as we move forward. As a Trustee you will share collective responsibility for the governance of Warwick District Foodbank and all decisions made by the board, ensuring the organisation is well run, fulfils its mission, ensuring compliance with charity law and that the charity is open and accountable.

Responsibilities

All trustees are responsible for setting the strategic direction for Warwick District Foodbank, ensuring alignment to our values, defining goals, setting organisational policies, agreeing financial plans, evaluating the charity’s performance and ensuring good relationships amongst the trustees and with the senior staff.

 All Trustees:

• Ensure that the Foodbank has in place a clear strategy, plans, vision & values.
• Ensure that the charity is accountable, is actively complying with statutory reporting and accounting requirements and the law, and that financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined and made publicly available.

• Ensure an annual budget is provided for board approval.
• Review management and statutory accounts are produced on time.
• Ensure that organisation risks are reviewed by the board annually.
• Be part of any sub-groups to the Board as appropriate

About you:

• Experience of working in a financial role such as a qualified & experienced accountant or banker. However, previous experience as a charity treasurer is not essential.

What will you be doing? 

• Assisting the team with a range of administrative tasks such as filing, data entry and cleaning. 

• Processing income from supporters and our charity shops. 

• Using our database to record income. 

• Logging mail and processing. 

• Sending thank you letters/e-mails to supporters. 

• Helping with Archiving and other ongoing projects as required. 
   

You will be organised and methodical and be keen to learn new processes and have good written and verbal communication skills.  If you have some basic IT skills that would be great, although we will provide training, so you are fully equipped for your role. 

We are looking for volunteers who can commit 6-10 hours per week during office hours of 9am-5pm and can be flexible to fit in with your other commitments.  This role is primarily based in our Bristol Office (BS1 2NT), however remote working can be arranged for certain tasks. 

We will provide full training for the role and the support of a dedicated Volunteer Manager.

Local Welcome makes it fun and easy for people to cook and eat with refugees in their community. 

We’re looking for a new trustee to support us through a time of challenge and opportunity, as we simultaneously navigate the changing landscape of refugee support in the UK, and manage strategic changes in the charity’s financial model and service delivery.

You’ll be joining a friendly board with 3-5 other trustees with different backgrounds, expertise and experience. Some on the board have been with us from our early days, and others are more recent appointments. Two board members are Local Welcome leaders themselves. A key area of focus will be to help lead the organisation through the change management process mentioned above.

Our ultimate goal is to be a 100% membership-funded organisation. Our current strategy paves our way to achieve this once we’ve scaled from 7 groups to 50.

Volunteer Role

London-based housing and homelessness charity, Fresh Horizons CNB, are seeking a new Treasurer to provide financial experience to their Trustee board.

Fresh Horizons CNB offers a safe and stable living environment for those who are on the journey back to independent living. We are seeking a Treasurer to join our Board.

What will you be doing?

In addition to the Trustee duties, the Treasurer will also:

· Oversee the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees.

· Ensure that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.

· Ensure that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost-management.

· Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity.

· Oversee the financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with the CEO.

Time Commitment

· The Board meets 4 times a year, meetings usually last for 2 hours.

· There are 4 other meetings a year, which usually last for 1 hour. These meetings are a chance to catch up on how things are going and complete any relevant training.

· Most meetings are held remotely.

· One away day per year.

· Finance experience at a strategic level.

· A qualified accountant is desirable.

WK Foundation cares deeply about providing opportunities for young adults from low income contexts through practical skills & work ready training and job opportunities. WKF is a recently registered charity in South London, seeking to add trustees to their board to add skills & bring diverse voices that will best represernt our young adults. Our work is dedicated to reconnecting low income urban communities with sustainable food pathways, with the aim of breaking the cycles of poverty that are perpetuated by dysfunctional food systems. The board are particularly interested in candidates who identify as Black Caribbean or have mixed racial backgrounds, such as mixed race Black Caribbean/White or Pakistani/White British.

Our board is female led (Chair & CEO are female), and consists of a clinical phschologist, social entrepreneur, trained counsellor & HR practicioner, and regenerative food specialist. We are a friendly but professional bunch who start meetings with a moment of reflection and prayer, record excellent minutes and work through a pre-agreed agenda and schedule. We are big on creating a culture that combines support and listening with action, accountability and forward movement and our vibe is positive, and inclusive. 

We are currently re-developing Nourish, our holistic hospitality training programme, for an October 2025 launch. Nourish provides hands on skills training, work experience and employment opportunities, as well as employment progression and support for young adults from low income context facing disadvantages. We work with young adults for up to 12 months.

Our work is underpinned by our regenerative food practises and is run in accordance with our Christian faith values & principles.

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in mainly Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training, to organisations and businesses large and small.

Our Trustee Board is currently drawn from the counselling and therapies community, plus commercial and other charity backgrounds. Now, with crucial development of the CIO ahead, we are looking for new members to expand the Board to its maximum ten places and to gain skills and insight from an equal, diverse and inclusive group that takes in business skills, knowledge of charities, and experience of not-for-profit finances to make growth plans a reality.

The Board will keep us on track with good governance through oversight of our work, and will also help our keen new CEO to secure a sound financial base from which to grow our operations to meet the ever-increasing demand for our services.
