The Association of Commonwealth Universities, a 400-strong global network working together to strengthen higher education across the Commonwealth, is seeking a new Head of Philanthropy to drive their fundraising strategy.
As the world’s first and oldest international university network, the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) has been bringing universities together from across the Commonwealth for more than 100 years. Our network currently encompasses over 400 universities in more than 40 countries.
In this newly created role, the Head of Philanthropy will develop and implement a philanthropic fundraising strategy for the ACU. In the longer term, we wish to continue building the existing endowment for the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships and develop new programmes to support our strategy, including our ground-breaking initiative, the King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP). You’ll play a key role in our journey as we develop this unique and compelling new initiative, inspired by His Majesty The King, to strengthen the climate resilience of Commonwealth Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
This is an exciting opportunity to play a leadership role in developing a high-performing philanthropy function that will deliver income targets and further our mission of creating opportunities for individuals and strengthening universities.
You will work with high-calibre staff and volunteers, helping to drive and implement a major gift programme and undertake active fundraising. Working with the CEO and Director of External Affairs, you will cultivate and steward transformational relationships with high-net-worth individuals, trusts and foundations while overseeing the management and nurturing of a small fundraising team.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a proactive, senior major donor fundraiser who is comfortable at all levels of philanthropic cultivation, from prospecting and building a strong pipeline to building relationships and securing gifts from high-net-worth individuals and ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
Due diligence is critical to this role, so understanding and experience within this is key.
Person Specification:
• Direct experience of donor engagement and stewardship, including reporting.
• Direct experience, or a demonstrably clear understanding of fundraising ethics and gift acceptance.
• A leadership style that combines strategic vision and oversight with personal involvement and close attention to detail.
• A natural flair for building confidence among senior volunteers and colleagues.
• The ability, confidence and diplomatic awareness to work with senior stakeholders.
• Line management experience.

What you'll be doing:
We are looking for a skilled Bid Development Officer to join our team and drive income generation through grants and funding applications. If you have experience in bid writing, securing funding, and building relationships with funders, we want to hear from you!
You will be:
- Identifying and researching funding opportunities from public sector funders, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Trusts, and Foundations.
- Developing high-quality funding applications in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
- Managing the full grant cycle—from prospecting and application to reporting and stewardship.
- Building and maintaining relationships with funders, trusts, and foundation managers.
- Creating strong, evidence-based funding proposals aligned with organisational priorities.

Job Purpose
The Ruth Strauss Foundation is looking to grow its fundraising team and this role will play a pivotal part in developing Individual Giving for the organisation. This role will lead the Individual Giving and Legacy programme, responsible for building the database of regular givers, introducing new campaigns and products to acquire new donors and increase retention rates and lifetime donor value.
This role will be responsible for developing a supporter centric marketing strategy generating a supporter journey which drives excellent supporter experience, creating a RSF family of donors. This role will develop products for in memory fundraising and build our legacy programme from scratch, developing a legacy fundraising strategy and subsequent comms plan and journey.

Key Responsibilities

- Produce a regular giving strategy to generate growth in income and acquisition/retention numbers
- Develop robust supporter centric supporter journey’s, feeding into a wider onward journey to increase the lifetime value of our donors
- Produce a legacy strategy to introduce legacy fundraising to RSF, growing a database of legacy pledgers through sensitive and impactful legacy marketing
- Introduction of new appeal campaigns and individual giving products to the individual giving portfolio
- Develop products to support in memory fundraising
- Utilise audience analysis and sector trends to generate compelling supporter communications, connecting to supporter motivations and interests.
Key activities
- Produce a 3 year programme strategy for Individual Giving and Legacy fundraising contributing to the ambitious growth strategy for RSF
- Project management of a year long Individual Giving communications plan and associated campaigns/products.
- Produce a marketing strategy for our individual givers which focusing on increasing the number of new donors acquired as well increasing retention, average value donated and gift aid conversions of our existing database.
- Introduce new in memory products and campaigns to support fundraisers wishing to raise funds in memory of a loved one.
- Introduce a legacy marketing strategy to grow legacy fundraising at RSF, introducing KPIs to monitor impact across pledgers and intenders
- Establish business rules for recording Individual giving data on Salesforce to ensure that future analysis of the programme is robust and reliable
- Introduce new fundraising campaigns to reach new audiences and re-engage with existing donors
- Project management and delivery of existing Individual giving campaigns
- Introduce new individual giving campaigns to the portfolio, identifying key opportunities in the year using audience understanding, aligning with RSF’s strategy
- Work closely with gift in wills organisations to grow RSF’s legacy fundraising, reaching new audiences, connecting with solicitors across the UK
- Work with the Head of Finance to develop a legacy administration process
- Budget management and post activity delivery metric analysis, ensuring a robust contingency planning process is in place
- Development of fundraising collateral in conjunction with campaigns/products
- Coordinate the marketing requirements for each activity, producing pre and post communications/marketing collateral – including working with external production companies where required
- Set up product/campaign processes including fulfilment and supporter stewardship
- Ensure all individual giving and legacy activities are compliant with fundraising code of conduct, GDPR and other IG processes/policies
- Conduct regular sector wide and competitor research to stay ahead of trends and maximiseopportunities for RSF

Expertise required
- Exceptional experience of managing an individual giving programme, managing a range of campaigns/products of varying size and scale including acquisition activity, warm appeals and reactivation
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills including budget management, project management and prioritisation.
- Excellent data analytical skills, able to set up processes to capture data and analyse data to ensure strategic decisions are based on audience insight and analysis
- Experience of developing plans and budgets, and reporting against financial targets and key performance indicators
- Experience working with CRM systems and project planning tools
- Excellent communication skills – able to utilise data analysis to produce compelling fundraising communications, understanding supporter motivations, engaging audiences to generate fundraising growth.
- Strong team player and project leadership, ensuring clear and regular communication with the RSF team and stakeholders as appropriate
- Strong relationship management across stakeholders of multiple levels and organisations.

About the Ruth Strauss Foundation
In early 2018, Ruth Strauss, the wife of Sir Andrew Strauss the former England cricket captain, was diagnosed with an incurable lung cancer that affects non-smokers. Ruth died on December 29th 2018; she was 46 years old and mother to two children, then aged 10 and 13.

The Role
The Supporter Experience Officer is responsible for giving supporters a fulfilling and enjoyable relationship with the charity. They deepen supporter relationships and strengthen sources of income by working strategically across the whole supporter journey.
Main responsibilities include:
• Oversee programmes of regular giving and incorporate positive ‘wow’ moments into the supporter journey
• Ensure a dynamic two-way engagement with supporters
• Manage and deliver a quality supporter thanking process, including reviewing and maintaining thank you letter copy and processes, in liaison with the Supporter Services department

To be successful as the Director of Development and Communications, you will have proven experience of setting fundraising strategy and working with small teams to deliver successful income generation growth. This role is a full-time permanent position that will be remote with occasional travel to London. The salary for this position is £65,000 to £70,000.

ROLE PURPOSE
The Fundraising Officer will be a vital member of the Mass Fundraising team, responsible for supporting all activity across Community and Events. They will be instrumental in supporting the Community and Events team to achieve our income targets and grow Community & Events from £400,000 to £550,000 over the next five years and by 29/30.
This role will focus on providing exceptional stewardship, delivering a calendar of community and events fundraising, and ensuring accurate data management to enhance donor engagement. Working with the Community and Events Manager you will be responsible for marketing our fundraising challenge events to ensure they provide a positive ROI. You will be a key point of contact for 200+ fundraisers who take part in fundraising events each year, as well as develop our community income stream proactively securing 10+ partnerships with local businesses/schools.
The ideal candidate will cultivate long-lasting relationships with individual supporters, promote fundraising opportunities, and help deliver impactful events, all while maintaining the highest standards of stewardship.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Events Fundraising
- Assist in the planning and execution of a diverse range of fundraising events, including challenge events and community initiatives.
- Support the management of event logistics, including participant communication, volunteer coordination, and on-the-day activities.
- Work with the Community and Events Manager to ensure a minimum 3:1 Return On Investment for challenge event fundraisers.
- Collaborate with external partners and suppliers to ensure smooth event operations and build strong relationships for future collaboration.
Community Fundraising
- Lead outreach efforts to engage at least 10 new local community partners, such as businesses, schools, and clubs, promoting fundraising opportunities and supporting their initiatives.
- Provide stewardship for in-memory and in-celebration fundraisers, ensuring they receive the information and support needed to maximise their fundraising potential.

Supporter Care
- Serve as the primary point of contact for 200+ community and events fundraisers, delivering outstanding stewardship that enhances their experience with the charity.
- Provide timely and effective follow-up communications with supporters, ensuring they feel valued and engaged.
- Process cash and cheque donations for Community & Events income, including ensuring this income is processed and recorded accurately on our database which may include batch uploads.
- Provide front desk coverage, welcoming visitors and donors at the Welcome Office and serving as a friendly and helpful representative of the organisation for 2-3 days/week.
- Maintain accurate records in our CRM (Raiser’s Edge) to track communications, income, and supporter preferences, ensuring compliance with GDPR and data protection laws.
- Continuously evaluate and suggest improvements to the supporter journey, aiming to enhance retention and engagement.
Administrative and Financial Support
- Process incoming donations and ensure timely acknowledgment and thank-you communications to all supporters.
- Work closely with the finance and data teams to reconcile donations, maintain accurate records, and support budget management for community and event fundraising activities.
- Assist in developing and adhering to fundraising budgets, tracking income, and ensuring effective expenditure management.
Marketing and Communication
- Create engaging materials and content to inspire participation in fundraising activities and distribute these to potential supporters. This could include posters, social media posts, newsletters.
- Ensure Community and Events associated webpages are kept up to date.
Other Requirements

The SS Great Britian Trust is seeking a12-month, maternity cover, Development Manager to play a key role in maximising income for the SS Great Britain Trust through Corporate, Trust and individual fundraising. It's a really exciting time at the Trust as we are fundraising for a significant capital project, in addition to an award-winning education programme. Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking candidates with experience of developing income streams and delivering funding against targets. You will help to deliver a programme of events (from breakfast meetings showcasing items in the archive to evening events with shanty singers!) to engage with potential supporters and build relationships with new funders.
You will have brilliant writing skills and be able to develop excellent funding bids, alongside building effective working relationships with different teams, senior leaders and external stakeholders.
Key duties:
- Work with the Director of Development to grow income across a range of income streams, with a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, including multi-year grants, unrestricted and restricted income.
- Lead the team in prospect research, developing qualified prospect pipelines across income streams and driving new funding approaches.
- Maximise opportunities with Corporate supporters. Work to develop existing Corporate Partnerships, and identify opportunities for growth and achieve new income across Memberships, Sponsorship and Corporate Trusts and Foundations.
- Achieve results through persuasive and compelling applications and proposals and creating robust budgets, and amplify project impact through detailed monitoring and inspiring reports.

We’re looking for a part-time Grants and Trusts Officer (2.5 days a week).
