Salvation Army – Head of Philanthropy

The Salvation Army, the UK’s leading social welfare charity, is seeking an experienced philanthropy professional to be responsible for a pipeline of approximately £5 million per year and work with their Fundraising Senior Leadership Team and wider Fundraising Department to drive income growth.

The role will be responsible for ensuring that The Salvation Army maintains and increases its impactful presence as one of the top 10 charities in the UK, and as a worldwide Christian Church that puts belief into action. The Head of Philanthropy will ensure high value relationships are well managed and the provision of steady income growth to fund the charity’s mission. This will involve maximising donations from existing supporters and investing in innovative fundraising activities to widen the number of high value supporters, trusts and companies giving to the organisation, as well as to drive retention and increase net income. The role will represent the Corporate, Trust and Major Donor teams across The Salvation Army.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in all aspects of philanthropy fundraising, as well as a strong understanding of the drivers and motivators of trust, major donor and corporate giving, and emerging trends. You will have a proven track of successful six figure fundraising in at least two of the following areas: corporate, trust and major donors. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with individuals across the organisation at all levels of seniority. You will also possess excellent leadership and people management skills.

Main purpose of post
This role will lead the HR function of the charity, overseeing all aspects of day-to-day HR. You will be responsible for the end-to-end employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, performance cycle co-ordination, talent development and off-boarding. Key Responsibilities
· Oversee and deliver end-to-end employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, performance cycle co-ordination, talent development and off-boarding.
· Manage HR operations tasks in accordance with Employment law, e.g. HR policy updates and effective management of employee relations cases, with the support of external HR legal advisors
· Manage the evolution of Total Rewards (Employee Value Proposition) incl. benefits, career growth, reward & recognition and L&D.
· Champion and coordinate L&D for individual employees and wider staff initiatives e.g. training needs analysis, engaging training providers, arranging all staff aways days and training sessions
· Lead the staff survey with the support of an external coach, working with the CEO to implement feedback and learning
· Lead the Wellbeing working group to support employee engagement, making best use of the Employee Assistance programme and other support initiatives
· Act as an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion champion, ensuring HR policies and practices reflect the charity’s commitment to EDI
· Work with the Head of Finance and Resources to produce payroll monthly and to calculate annual pay awards
· Lead on annual leave guidance to colleagues, ensuring Bright HR (online HR system) is used effectively
· Produce monthly HR reports to show activity and trends
· Work with external HR legal advisors to perform market rate analysis of roles to ensure the charity remains competitive with other organisations within the sector
· Advise managers on appropriate methods to support the management of attendance, absence, ill health, and performance, as well as arranging the OH process.

What You’ll Do

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director to join RedR and its Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to oversee the efficient and effective functioning of our organisation's key operational areas, including Operations, People Management, Finance, Security and Compliance. The Associate Director will play a pivotal role as part of the SLT in ensuring the smooth implementation of our humanitarian programmes while upholding the highest standards of excellence, accountability, integrity, collaboration and lifelong learning.
You will have a deep understanding of how to deliver programmes in a humanitarian context in a safe, secure and compliant manner. You will enhance delivery through standard operating procedures across the organisation and lead by doing.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management
You will lead a finance team of 2 (both part-time), responsible for excellent financial management, controls, reporting, budgeting, and auditing (both internal and external) including:
- Maintaining up-to-date financial records, including processing invoices, payments, and managing accounts payable and receivable.
- Month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, managing cashflow.
- Oversee payroll processing and reimbursement procedures.
- Analysis of financial data and preparation of reports for leadership review.
- Set standards for programme staff on financial budgeting and reporting
- Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and best practices.

As the Risk and Internal Audit Manager, you will play a pivotal role in fortifying our organisation by overseeing both risk management and internal audit operations. You will develop and manage CARE International UK’s risk management framework, maintain and update the organisation’s risk register, and provide regular risk management reports. You will also develop and execute an annual internal audit plan, ensuring compliance with recognised auditing standards. Your role involves coordinating with various CARE entities and overseeing specialist audits in areas like cybersecurity and GDPR. International travel will be required to support CARE International UK funded programmes.

Grantmaking
- Manage due diligence and enhanced grantmaking protocols for a highly complex and high-volume portfolio of grants spanning 50+ countries.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (I.E. NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT CRITICAL)
- Experience in a non-profit environment; grants management experience at private or public foundation a plus.
- Experience in or demonstrated interest in human rights and/or social justice issues.
- Additional language proficiency, especially in Spanish, Arabic, or French.
- Familiarity with US and/or UK non-profit compliance requirements and best practices.
- Familiarity with grants management systems, especially Fluxx.
