Family Action & the Role’s Impact:

Family Action is a registered charity, building stronger families since 1869.  Today we work with more than 60,000 families in over 150 community based services, as well as supporting thousands more through national programmes and grants.  We transform lives by providing practical, emotional and financial support to those who are experiencing poverty, disadvantage and social isolation.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Project Indigo, an LGBTQIA+ youth project run out of Off Centre at Family Action that fosters a safe space and sense of community amongst LGBTQIA+ young people in Hackney.  We support young people aged 16 to 25 through offering them a weekly facilitated social space and 1-to-1 support and advice sessions.  Having run for almost a decade, Project Indigo is well known in Hackney, and works alongside local LGBTQIA+ projects, as well as mental health and youth services.  Project Indigo maintains a youth-led and person-centred approach, with this role being developed in consultation with our members to address the barriers they face in accessing sensitive therapeutic support.

We are seeking a motivated and empathetic counsellor/psychotherapist to offer therapeutic support to members of Project Indigo, our LGBTQIA+ youth group.  The counsellor will make a positive impact and expand Project Indigo’s offer to include 1-to-1 counselling, including sessions up to 24 weeks and therapeutic drop-ins.

Off Centre is a service that provides a range of targeted mental health focused support services to young people aged 16 to 25 who registered with a City and Hackney GP.  These include: individual, counselling and psychotherapy, individual and group art psychotherapy, key-work support, out of hours drop-in service on Thursday evenings, targeted provision for children and young people of African, Caribbean and mixed heritage (ACH), and an Information and Advice provision.

Main Responsibilities:

· You will provide affirmative therapeutic support to our LGBTQIA+ young people who identify under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella or are exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity; including 1-to-1 therapeutic support, sessions up to 24 weeks and therapeutic drop-ins.

· You will enrich Project Indigo’s holistic offer by providing a safe, confidential and affirmative therapeutic space for our members; supporting young people with a range of difficult life and/or mental health issues, which may include bereavement, domestic violence, relationship difficulties, sexual abuse and trauma.

· You will maintain an in-depth knowledge of issues facing young LGBTQIA+ people, in particular trans and gender diverse people, and will have clinical experience working with this group.

· You will maintain an understanding of LGBTQIA+ identities, as well as intersectionality and the multiple oppressions faced by our diverse group members, in particular racialised, neurodivergent and/or trans and non-binary people.

· You will address the diverse needs of our young people by maintaining an intersectional and person-centred approach.

Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):

· You are BACP /UKCP (or equivalent) registered with proven experience of working affirmatively with LGBTQIA+ young people in a clinical setting and/or evidence of in-depth knowledge of how to support LGBTQIA+ young people, in particular trans and gender diverse young people.

· You are empathetic with a good understanding of the social and political issues impacting LGBTQIA+ young people.

· You identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community in line with Project Indigo’s peer-led service model.*

· You have an understanding of risk management, with the ability to act in accordance with local and organisational safeguarding policies.

· You have the ability to organise workload, meet competing priorities and flexibility to adapt to changing work schedules.

· You have the ability to build positive relationships, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and teams.

The charity is seeking a Director of Finance and Resources who will be a key member of the Hospice’s Senior Leadership Team and instrumental in helping to shape the organisation’s strategic direction. 

The postholder will be responsible for the effective financial management of the Charity, including robust assessment of risk, providing sound financial advice to the Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team.

‘I AM Brent’ consortium

Step Up Hub leads a consortium, known as I AM Brent, that consists of six well-respected local charities who are working together to address the root causes and effects of violence affecting young people in the London Borough of Brent.

Programme Description

The programme is part of the Mayor of London’s flagship violence reduction programme, known as MyEnds. It is a place-based violence reduction initiative that adopts a public health approach. The consortium is providing an array of positive opportunities for young people and support for families, including through tailored interventions. The programme also aims to improve statutory and voluntary organisation networks and access to referral, and to ensure the voices of young people and community members are built into provision. The work is focused on the Church Road Estate, Stonebridge Estate, St Raphael’s Estate, Chalkhill Estate and Harlesden Town Centre areas.

The Role of the Community Engagement Lead

The Community Engagement Lead will be a key member of the team delivering the I AM Brent MyEnds programme. They will develop and maintain strong relationships with the breadth of young and older community members, and local businesses to conduct community engagement. They will subscribe to the values of co-production and work positively in accordance with I AM Brent’s Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Data Protection and Health and Safety policies.

In addition, the Community Engagement Lead will:

· act as the primary contact for requests from the community for information about I AM Brent’s services and events,

· disseminate to the community information about I AM Brent’s services, community fund, and events,

· organise, and support the delivery of, community engagement events, youth forums and community forums,

· encourage community participation,

· provide status reports regarding upcoming community outreach, engagement, events, and initiatives to consortium                members and community members, and provide end of community activity reports to the Programme Manager,

· summarise views of community members about their needs and ideas to improve safety,

· signpost community members to support following outreach activities,

· process referrals to the I AM Brent programme,

· support the organisation and administration of talks at community centres, places of worship, and community events,            on supporting young people’s safety,

· support the organisation and administration of parenting programmes,

· represent I AM Brent and Step Up Hub at meetings, forums, roundtable discussions and related events,

· help recruit and line manage community volunteers.

The Community Engagement Lead will be supported by the I AM Brent MyEnds Programme Manager, Step Up Hub senior leadership team and consortium members, and will work closely with I AM Brent’s Network and Communications Lead.

With some exciting projects and campaigns upcoming, there will be some excellent and tangible engagement points to interact with donors on. With support from the team and a prospect research function, this role will truly get to focus on lead generation and relationship building.

To be successful as the Philanthropy Lead you will be experienced in building upon existing and new relationships with high-net-worth individuals or trusts and foundations. You will be able to demonstrate securing gifts or income from individuals of a six or seven figure level. This person can come from a commercial background, but ideally they will have some understanding of the charity sector or fundraising.

This role is a full-time permanent position that will have hybrid working in the London offices one day per week. The salary for this role is £60,000 to £65,000.

We are delighted to be working with Valley Leisure Ltd (VLL), an independent charitable trust, with a 35-year history of improving people’s health & wellbeing. Due to retirement, VLL are looking for a new Head of Finance, providing a great opportunity for a qualified accountant to lead on the strategic and operational financial management of the charity. 

As an income generating charity, with little reliance on grants of funding, VLL deliver their charitable objectives whilst being commercially minded. With values that align with those of VLL, you will be experienced in all aspects of finance, a qualified accountant (or part-qualified with relevant experience) with a passion for improving health and wellbeing in the community.  With one direct report, you will play a pivotal part in an experienced and established Senior Leadership Team and a wider, collaborative and energetic team.

With strong leadership qualities you will:

• Be a qualified accountant or part-qualified with relevant experience (CIMA/CIPFA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent) with strategic and operational finance management experience, including financial process, income and expenditure management, reporting, year-end, audit, statutory and management account production, establishing and monitoring effective financial controls.
• Understand the charity environment and wider landscape, with a successful track record of working with a Trustee Board or a leadership team.
• Demonstrate experience of costing projects with a full-cost recovery approach as well as a high level of IT competency, including the use of Technology, Microsoft Office and SAGE
• Up-to-date knowledge of charity SORP regulations and requirements, and experience of payroll and pensions is desirable.

Responsible for the VLL’s day to day finances, you will have a hands-on approach, excellent time management skills, and able to work to tight deadlines in order to make an active contribution to the success and growth of the charity.
