Job Purpose: Fundraising Officer
The Fundraising Officer position is responsible for proactively driving fundraising growth from new and existing supporters (predominantly with individuals and corporate partners) generating the income that will enable our ambitious organisational strategy. The position also plays a significant role in strengthening support through community engagement activities, including with schools, community associations and corporate groups.

You will be working at the heart of our community to bring our cause to life and build lasting donor relationships with old and new supporters.
Key responsibilities
● To identify and submit applications to potential grant funders who indicate that they offer support for foodbank and community activity.
● Proactively identify, engage and build good relationships with prospective corporate donors, successfully securing them as funding partners. Alongside this you’ll deepen engagement and grow our relationships and partnerships with existing corporate donors.
● Work with colleagues across Barnsley Foodbank, to develop authentic, compelling, creative and winning grant funding and partnership proposals that can successfully engage corporate partners and align with their needs, motivations, areas of interests and values.
● Design and deliver excellent, engaging and regular stewardship communications and powerful fundraising appeals alongside establishing the associated data and systems. You will grow our income and pool of individual supporters making one off or monthly donations. You’ll also explore and implement ways of promoting Barnsley Foodbank to successfully attract an ever-greater number of individual donors.
● You’ll proactively build new fundraising relationships with local community groups, associations and schools in and around Barnsley.
● Evolve, develop, monitor and manage a fundraising portfolio capable of generating in excess of £150,000 per annum. You’ll establish a fundraising pipeline, including a range of KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) that can be tracked and that will enable you to make informed projections regarding future income.
● Forge strong relationships with colleagues across the wider Trussell Trust network, sharing best practice and learning from other charities across the network. As part of a network ‘learning set’, you’ll proactively take advantage of any fundraising training and skills development opportunities and engage with any joint fundraising opportunities.
● You will engage with the Communications and Development Officer to ensure that social media is used to engage with funding partners and also used to promote the financial needs of the project. You will ensure donors receive regular stewardship communications that bring the Barnsley’s work and impact to life so that donors keep engaged with our work.

Person specification
Essential qualifications, skills, and experience:
● Experience as a fundraiser and a proven track record of fundraising success with individuals, businesses and/or community fundraising.
● Excellent written and verbal communication and relationship management skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate existing and prospective supporters, provide excellent stewardship and craft compelling and winning funding proposals and appeals.
● Experience of setting, managing and reporting against fundraising priorities
● Strong IT skills
● A tenacious and enthusiastic approach and the ability to embrace, develop and shape a new role. You’ll be well organised, proactive, and a self-starter who is able to self-motivate to plan, prioritise and manage your workload.
Desirable qualifications, skills, and experience
● Knowledge of the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice
● Experience of costing projects for grant applications
● Experience of monitoring and evaluating outcomes of grant and bid applications
The person appointed will be based at the Wombwell hub. They will need to be able to travel independently, however it will not be necessary for them to be a car owner or driver. If they are a car driver, they must have no more than 6 penalty points on their licence.

About the Team:
The WaterAid Programme Support and Knowledge team provides technical advisory expertise across programme design and delivery. It leads and supports organisation-wide programme learning and knowledge management, and facilitates knowledge exchange, fosters and supports internal and external programme and technical partnerships and networks.
This role leads the Knowledge Management & Learning sub-team focused on developing and supporting the department’s knowledge management, learning and WASH capacity-strengthening strategies, approaches and processes. It works across the organisation to facilitate the digital curation and management of our programmatic and thematic knowledge.
About the Role:
Knowledge Management and Learning (KM&L) Senior Manager strategically leads and shapes knowledge management and programme learning within the International Programmes Department (IPD), working with senior leadership teams to define, steer and ensure the effective implementation of a department wide KML strategy.
The KM&L Senior Manager also acts on behalf of IPD and PSK in steering and providing strategic leadership on the department’s contributions and requirements regarding WaterAid’s research agenda, programme and technical capacity development strategy, and external digital communications.
The Senior Manager strategically works in conjunction with PSK’s senior leadership team to shape and steer approaches and processes for the collation, analysis, and the uptake of programme knowledge, thought leadership, innovation, and learning. The KM&L Senior Manager reports into the Programme Support and Knowledge Director and their key accountabilities are:
- Strategically lead the design of an organisational programme learning and knowledge management strategy, in alignment with the other key organisational strategies and processes such as those for research, external communications and planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting (PMER).
- Provide leadership and support to IPD and WaterAid in developing an positive organisational culture of learning and effective knowledge management.
- Lead operationalisation and implementation of the KM&L strategy, including shaping and steering the coordination of organisational processes to collate, analyse and disseminate programme knowledge, thought leadership, innovation and learning.
- Lead the development of organisational mechanisms for knowledge exchange and evolution of our approaches including providing leadership to identify specific strategic knowledge gaps.
- Lead the process and methods to develop and maintain WaterAid’s normative frameworks, standards and guidance materials for both internal and external audiences, coordinating with PSK’s and GPAC’s technical and policy leads.
- Strategically steer and support the Capacity Strengthening Senior Advisor, to drive and support WaterAid's capacity-strengthening agenda.
- Strategically steer and support the IPD’s coordination and interests in the global research agenda as led by the Global Policy and Campaigns department, and steer the effective project management of multi-country programme research projects.
- Lead on the contribution from a KM&L and capacity development perspective within the organisation’s business and bid development efforts by supporting donor engagement, intelligence gathering, and preparation of funding proposals.
- Provide strategic leadership to the team, translated into effective annual priorities, plans and budgets - fully integrated within PSK’s overall plan and linked to the organisational priorities.
Requirements
Essential skills:
- An experienced leader in the area of knowledge management and learning, research and technical capacity development, preferably in the international development sector
- Strong and extensive knowledge management background with a track record of developing effective strategies and approaches for program learning.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of effective knowledge exchange mechanisms and approaches for knowledge evolution.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and design effective applied research initiatives.
- Experience and knowledge of effective capacity development design and delivery.
- Strong IT literacy skills, including designing and maintaining SharePoint or similar information management platforms; and using Microsoft 365 and other web based tools and platforms.
- Experience working in low and middle-income countries.
- Ability to communicate clearly and influence colleagues and peers; ability to work effectively across diverse groups and cultures.
- A self-starter, able to work independently and drive tasks forward to completion, escalating issues where appropriate.

Context and Background
The NSPCC is the leading charity focused on preventing cruelty to the most vulnerable children in the UK.
We run campaigns that shift attitudes and behaviour to keep children safe, campaigns that inspire action like fundraising or volunteering for us and influencing campaigns that ask for public support to persuade government and industry to change laws and policies to better protect children and young people. This exciting role is responsible for managing the delivery of influencing campaigns in support of the NSPCC’s organisational strategy.
This is a crucial moment for our campaigning work. In the past few years, NSPCC campaigns have played a crucial role in securing an Online Safety Act that is fit to keep children safe online. The team have also secured achievements on changing the law to prevent sports coaches and faith leaders having sexual relationships with under 18s and helping new parents receive mental health support. The NSPCC is looking for someone to continue to drive forward change for children under a new Government across their key policy areas and make sure every child grows up with the safety they deserve.
Job purpose
• To advise on the use of campaigning activity to achieve the organisation’s influencing objectives
• To lead on the development of integrated, evidence-based influencing campaigns which mobilise the public behind calls for Government to better protect children
• Co-ordinate the delivery and evaluation of high impact campaigns activity across different channels that mobilise both warm and cold audiences

This role will support the Events Development Manager in the planning and delivery of online and digital events, as well as an expanded events programme that aligns with the RSPB’s strategic goals. Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
