As Policy Officer, you’ll support Policy Managers to implement policy development strategies and be an expert policy advisor to colleagues across the Society.  You’ll also help to build compelling arguments to convince decision-makers of the need for action on dementia, empowered by robust evidence and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.

This is a homeworking role, but you may be required to travel to attend meetings, events and team-days, so you must reside in the UK, have the correct right to work documents to work in the UK and be comfortable/willing to travel to our offices (London or Birmingham) if/when required. Usher Kids UK is looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Family Liaison Officer to provide emotional wellbeing support, guidance and information to our wonderful community of children, young people and their families living with Usher syndrome.

Job Title: Family Liaison Officer

Responsible to: CEO

Location: Remote, with requirement for in-person attendance at some meetings and events during the year (travel expenses covered)

Hours: 17.5 hours per week across a minimum of 3 days per week (flexible days, to be agreed with successful candidate) with some out of hours working required (e.g. our annual summer residential camp and twice-yearly family weekend events, with TOIL for out of hours working)

Salary: £31,000 per year pro rata, 2.5 days/week (£15,500 actual)

WORKING AT USHER KIDS UK

Our charity provides vital support to the Usher community.  In recent years, demand has grown for our services so this year we are very excited to be growing our staff team.  The new Family Liaison Officer will work alongside our CEO and Events and Communications Officer, playing a vital role in providing both emotional wellbeing and practical support to our young people and their families.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Family Support Lead

As Family Liaison Officer, a big part of your role will be providing tailored support, information and advice to families from diagnosis onwards.  This will include:

o Responding to enquiries from families

o Assessing support needs and signposting to external services as appropriate

o Providing follow-up remote support where required

o Providing face-to-face support at occasional clinics (normally based in London)

o Designing and maintaining support processes and systems

o Monitoring engagement and using insight gained to make recommendations for service improvement

Emotional Wellbeing Lead

As our lead emotional wellbeing practitioner, you will assist in the design and delivery of several of our projects and events.  These will include:

o Providing support and facilitating daily group sessions with young people aged 11-25 at our annual USHthis! summer camp (in 2025, the camp will take place from Friday 25th July - Friday 1st August and you will need to be available for these dates)

o Help to deliver our one-day events in the spring and autumn

o Co-create the Empowerment Programme for 17-25 year olds with Usher syndrome.  This is a pilot programme that aims to support our young adults in developing self-advocacy and identity alongside mentoring through the key milestones in young adult life

o Facilitate 1:1 and group sessions on the Empowerment Programme

o Facilitate monthly virtual USHchats for parents and carers (these take place one evening a month)

Across all aspects of the role, you will need to ensure the safeguarding of and promote the welfare of children and adults at risk who are engaging with Usher Kids UK.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Experience and Knowledge:

o Over 2 years’ experience of providing emotional wellbeing support to:

- children and adolescents

- parents/carers and family members

o Experience of supporting families with additional needs

o Experience of supporting families with sensory or dual sensory needs (desirable)

o Experience of family support case management

o Experience of facilitating 1:1 and group sessions

o Minimum of Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g. youth work, health, social care, education)

o Computer literate and confident using MS Office software and video conferencing tools

o Good standard of written English and Maths (GCSE grade 5 or above)

o Good knowledge of safeguarding processes and systems

o Ability to deliver out-of-hours work to accommodate Usher Kids UK events and meetings

This is an exciting new support role created to provide support to the team, and the CEO. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide high-quality administrative support to the Teaching Awards Trust, ensuring the efficient operation of the charity’s virtual office and daily activities. Background and purpose

Metabolic Support UK (MSUK) is the umbrella patient organisation for people living with and affected by Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMDs). We are a UK-based organisation with an international reach. There are approximately 40,000 people in the UK living with one of around 1,500 IMDs. Globally an estimated 71, 260 people are born with these conditions each year and 1.43 million people live with IMDs worldwide. 

IMDs are rare, lifelong genetic disorders that affect people in a variety of ways including lifestyle, lifespan, diet and medication needs and symptoms. Sadly, some disorders can cause irreversible complications or death. 
 
Since our inception in 1981, we have been at the forefront of rare disease community development; as a founding member of EURORDIS, expanding newborn screening, accelerating the development of IMD treatments, and empowering our community through the Living Well Movement.We enable our inherited metabolic disorder community to live well by offering individual support, building connections, and developing evidence-based insight. 

The role 

MSUK is looking to recruit a dynamic, ambitious and confident Fundraising Manager to work with the Chief Executive to develop and implement our income strategy. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Fundraising Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be a core member of the team, developing and delivering the income stream for the charity with fundraising strategies that support MSUK’s mission. The role will report to the Chief Executive and will be responsible for driving forward all aspects of fundraising, including building corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies and community. The MSUK team is a small but agile team and we expect the successful candidate to be a self-starter with a “can do” attitude, lots of energy and an ability to work autonomously. This is an exciting opportunity to join an exciting and progressive charity and to work with a fun, committed and established team. 

Please note this is a remote working position but candidates will need to live permanently in the UK be able to travel to Manchester/Midlands for regular team meetings and across the UK at short notice for community events and meetings.

Main Responsibilities:

Fundraising Management and Development

• Work with the Chief Executive to develop and implement a balanced and realistic fundraising strategy, which builds on MSUK strengths and maximises income for the charity.

• Deliver an integrated fundraising programme, which includes corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies, community and events.

• Ensure all fundraising activity is compliant with GDPR and relevant fundraising regulation and that all data is accurate and maintained efficiently.

• To maintain and develop the donor CRM platform (currently Nutshell) including building supporter journeys to enhance donor experiences and maximise income for the charity.

• Provide up to date funding reports and fundraising forecasts for the board

• With the CEO, manage all aspects of finance and reporting relating to fundraising, including annual budgets, monthly reporting and re-forecasting. Provide monthly reports and updates on all fundraising activities and income streams

Job Purpose

· To manage the delivery of Young Marketeers in Plymouth in four primary schools

Background to School Food Matters

School Food Matters (SFM) exists to teach children about food and to improve children’s access to healthy, sustainable food during their time at school. We provide fully funded food education programmes to schools. Our experience delivering these programmes informs and strengthens our campaigns, bringing the voices of children, parents and teachers to government policy.

Young Marketeers

This much-loved programme was started in London in 2012. It is now running in 12 cities across England and is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund for three years.  The programme provides hands-on opportunities for children from primary schools to grow fruit and veg from seed to sell at their local market. Young Marketeers is also a platform for School Food Matters to promote food education to schools and communities as a way to support children to live happy and healthy lives.  Children learn the art of growing veg from seed, and market traders will share their secrets on how to create a winning market stall.  Primary schools will be visited by our gardener in March/April and then again in May/June and receive further tips on how to ensure a bumper crop. And in July, they head to the market to sell their produce, and to meet the mayor!

Key Tasks include:

· Assist with recruitment of four schools to take part in Young Marketeers

· Build and maintain relationships with teachers, teaching assistants and senior leaders to ensure the smooth running of the project

· Build and support relationships with contacts in partner organisations

o One assembly in each school

o Two food growing sessions in each school

o One market trader training session in each school

We are seeking a highly skilled finance professional to perform this essential senior leadership, strategic financial  and management position in our London headquarters. The approximate annual income for Internews Europe and its subsidiaries, of which the post-holder has oversight, is c. £20m.

The post-holder will report directly to the COO for Internews Europe. The post-holder will be a leader on matters of corporate financial strategy, inter-Alliance financial accounting, budget management, and overall accounting operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive systems and process improvements in corporate financial management and planning, whilst also ensuring the smooth running of the financial service centre of the organisation.

The Finance Director is a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) in London, in addition to other international management units.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Key Strategic Deliverables will include the following:

· Lead on strategic financial management of Internews Europe, promoting effective and efficient processes to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organisation.

· Oversee and deliver on the statutory audit and delivery of the Annual Report and Accounts in line with UK charity requirements.

· Act as the focal point in all financial matters for the Internews Board of Trustees, Finance and Audit subcommittee and the Senior Management Team (SMT)

· Act as the primary Finance Team representative of Internews Europe in the relationship with Alliance partners, modelling and implementing improvements in the recording of financial data and transactions and improving financial reporting to the Programme Management Units.

· Ensure timely production of financial management information to key stakeholders across the organisation to enable informed decision making and alterations to existing plans where required.

· Co-ordination of the annual organisational budget preparation process and ensure effective budget oversight and management by project and department managers

· Promote strong collaboration with colleagues from Grants and Contracts and Development Teams to reforecast and test progress towards annual targets for income and expenditure.

· Ensuring professional and compliant delivery of all Internews Europe financial processes, to drive improvements in processes and ensure all staff understand and adopt such processes

Finance Department operations Specific duties with support from the Finance Team will include the following:

· Management of the Finance Team, providing effective leadership and creating an environment where Finance staff can learn and develop professionally

· Oversight of core accounting processes including cash-flow planning and management, accounts payable and receivable, and analysis of the balance sheet debtors and creditors

· Management of the relationship for resource sharing and associated accounting transactions arising with the other entities in the Alliance network to facilitate combined management/programmatic reporting when required, while ensuring sufficient financial controls to ensure distinct financial reporting and protection of separate legal entity status.

· Oversight of international banking processes (GBP and foreign currency, income and payments) and Treasury management to minimise organisational risk and negative foreign exchange valuations.

· Primary holder of the Banking relationship, including monitoring banking arrangements in international offices

· Co-ordinate the monthly payroll process with HR colleagues and the external payroll bureau

Oversight of subsidiary financial processes

· Currently Internews Europe has two subsidiaries, Internews International (II) based in France and Internews Media Development based in Ireland, currently dormant.

· Oversight of financial processes including relevant controls, policies and procedures

· Oversight of financial reporting in accordance with relevant GAAP and regulatory requirements.

· Monitor local regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with relevant tax and reporting and audit requirements

Key Stakeholder Engagement and Compliance

· Primary advisor to SMT of ramifications of strategic decisions, including financial, tax and other regulatory impacts

· Input to strategic development initiatives regarding appropriate application of donor funding mechanisms and utilization of subsidiaries.

· Ensure compliance with the UK regulatory regime and with the requirements of our principal funders and other supporters

· Lead responsibility for ensuring the maintenance and regular review of all statutory and best practice policies and procedures, staff training and socialization of changes

· Assisting the Programme teams with interpretation of donor compliance requirements, their translation into Internews Europe operational and/or financial procedures, and their effective implementation

Participation in global business operations leadership

· Collaborate with other members of the global senior leadership team for efficient operations and execution of the mission

· Collaboration with Information Technology and Solutions for effective implementation of software and other technology solutions, providing information and expertise and support for appropriate budgeting and expense allocation.

· Collaboration with Enterprise Risk Management and Security team regarding identification and mitigation of financial and other risks, as well as preparing policy and reports in accordance with Charity Commission guidelines

· Collaboration with People and Culture team to ensure appropriate labour regulations, Internews policies, procedures and financial controls are adhered to in the processing of payroll and other benefits; includes oversight and development of payments to employees and consultants working outside of the UK on Internews projects.

We’re looking for someone special with experience of campaigning, including an understanding of its basic tools and techniques, experience of interpreting complex policy issues for a public audience, and knowledge of the Northern Irish political and public policy landscape.

About the role 

You’ll support our national and local campaigning work across Northern Ireland to improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s and those closest to them. As part of our dynamic and committed Northern Ireland team, you’ll listen to the needs of our local communities and work with colleagues across the charity to deliver focussed political campaigning work. 

You’ll work with  our community to raise awareness and increase knowledge about Parkinson’s with decision makers at a local and national level. You’ll use your knowledge of public policy in Northern Ireland and the UK to make sure that the voices of people with Parkinson’s, their partners, family members and friends are heard, and help to drive changes that improve their lives. 

Please note - this role is suitable only for applicants who live in Northern Ireland.

What you’ll do:

• Be a first point of contact for campaigners in Northern Ireland, who want to improve services in their local area, and recruit and manage a sustainable network of local campaign volunteers specific to Northern Ireland.
• Support the work of the Policy and Campaigns Manager to understand and influence UK wide and specific NI legislation, policy and practice relating to our communities and their needs
• Provide expert advice and support to colleagues and campaigners on how best to influence decision makers in Northern Ireland.
• Use our UK-wide campaign priorities to deliver national and local campaign activity, and coordinate campaigns with other charities and organisations, where appropriate to further our goals.

What you’ll bring:

• Strong people skills, and a commitment to putting the experiences and needs of people affected by Parkinson’s at the centre of your work 
• Excellent written and oral communication and an ability to produce inspiring content to motivate others, and the ability to network and manage supportive relationships with volunteers, MLAs and a range of external organisations

Charity People is partnering with Young Lives vs. Cancer to recruit an interim part time Media and PR Officer to join their team.

Joining the Media Team at a key time as the organisation embarks on the first stage of its North Star vision which will see them working with partner organisations to close gaps in the current provision of care for young people and their families by 2035.

Contract: Nine month interim role, four days (28 hours) per week

This is an important role where you will lead on communicating a portfolio of key areas of Young Lives vs Cancer's policy work, fundraising activities and services, to a wide range of audiences, identifying reactive opportunities and through targeted media campaigns.

Core responsibilities within the role will include:

• Manage media partnerships such as national media fundraising appeals or campaigns
• Establish quality effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including Media and News outlets, journalists and charity partners
• Participate in the reactive news desk rota, responding to urgent media enquiries and providing advice to staff and senior managers
• Take advantage of opportunities to provide and publish reactive comment, opinion and content in a timely manner to involve Young Lives vs Cancer in news stories and debates that align with the charity's priorities
• Brief national, regional and local media (print, broadcast and online) on Young Lives vs Cancer and its activities. Support the Head of Media and PR to implement reputation management plans
• Brief staff spokespeople (including senior staff and specialist social workers) ahead of media interviews to ensure they are prepared and ready to speak on message
• Use data and research to engage media and news outlets
• Produce messaging, position statements, prepare for media interviews and deal with complex reactive press enquiries
• Contribute to the development and delivery of the charity's strategic media plan - lead a strategic development priority area, working across the team and organisation
• Develop and implement creative, effective media plans for campaigns and projects, in-line with the charity's overall strategic objectives
• Gather and develop stories and take a proactive role in identifying opportunities in online and offline media to place news and feature stories on Young Lives vs Cancer activities, campaigns, and services
• Initiate and maintain good working relationships with a network of editors, journalists and broadcasters, especially within the health, education and social care media, and ensure they are briefed appropriately on Young Lives vs Cancer activities and issues
• Write press releases, features, articles, opinion pieces and statements; ensuring these reflect Young Lives vs Cancer's values and key messages.
• Work closely with the Brand and Marketing Communications team to understand local business priorities and effectively coordinate and plan activity.

The Media and PR Officer will have previous experience of working in a Media and PR role. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of media monitoring and evaluation; the ability to engage positively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders; excellent storytelling ability; and the ability to translate complex information in clear, understandable messages.

MAIN RESPONSABILITIES
