Who We’re Looking For

You have at least two years of experience in a policy or public affairs role, with a deep understanding of the UK political landscape and a commitment to gender equality. You are a creative problem-solver with the ability to quickly digest complex information, make persuasive arguments, and build relationships with diverse stakeholders. You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and have a proven ability to lead projects and campaigns.

• Support campaign managers and other colleagues with any new or existing projects relating to fundraising operations, working closely with internal stakeholders, ensuring requirements are clear and fully documented

As a Community Engagement Officer, you will be passionate about supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable people, with the ability to work with culturally diverse communities and groups. You will work with minimal supervision and be a vital and visible community resource. You will be responsible for engaging and supporting clients, and for developing effective working relationships with community partners.

Broadly, your primary responsibilities will cover the following areas:

• Act as the ‘face’ of CABB locally & build trust,
• Support the development and delivery of our social media communications,
• Attend community & stakeholder engagement events,
• Assess urgent matters which need specialist input and arrange internal referrals to colleagues within CABB for further information/ specialist advice & casework in money advice, welfare benefits, immigration, housing and community care,
• Support clients to access a specialist adviser via video chat software.

Our vision is for the Community Engagement Officer to be based wholly within the community, with some office attendance to meet with colleagues. They will have no casework responsibilities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will self-motivated, with strong research, telephone and IT skills and have the ability to contribute positively whilst having a flexible approach to service delivery.

Cornwall Community Accountancy Service are looking for a Chief Executive Officer / Principal Accountant to take over from the founding CEO who is stepping back from the role.Reporting to the trustees this role takes primary responsibility for the day to day management and further development of the Community Accountancy Service to community organisations within Cornwall.The post holder will be a professionally qualified accountant holding a practising certificate, thereby responsible for quality control of all accountancy work performed.

This role would be ideal to work alongside an existing practice or someone who already has their own clients. This is a part time role (15-20 hours per week) with a salary of £63,700 FTE.The role would be with an immediate start with handover from the current CEO up until April 2025.The CEO is happy to remain on hand for support for the foreseeable future.

The Role

Accountabilities

1. Strategic Partnerships Development:

• Work closely with the senior leadership and development team to embed a long-term partnerships strategy.

• Take overall responsibility for Big Change’s income, driving the growth of a portfolio of partners that sets us up to achieve our mission, pre-empting and thoughtfully managing any tension between commercial and impact drivers.

• Qualify, develop, and manage relationships with strategic partners across the system, including complementary delivery partners, trusts, foundations, businesses, non-profit organisations and governmental agencies.

• Work with leaders in each area of the organisation to develop a strong model for partnerships linked to impact.

• Lead the creation of partnerships that enable experimentation and launch new ventures and projects.

• Negotiate and formalise partnership agreements that bring in resources, expertise, and influence to advance organisational goals.

• ​​Lead by example with a fresh, creative and open-minded approach to partnerships.

2. Pipeline Development:

• Design and execute a comprehensive income development plan that aligns with the organisation’s goals and priorities.

• Lead on pursuits for funding opportunities through grants, major gifts, corporate sponsorships and other revenue streams.

• Work closely with the finance, impact and community teams to align fundraising efforts with project needs and organisational priorities.

• Track and report on fundraising progress, ensuring transparency and accountability in all pipeline development activities.

• Deliver on annually agreed revenue targets without compromising the integrity of the charity.

• Employ a robust control environment (e.g. policies and contract management), manage risks and implement risk mitigation strategies in relation to all fundraising and awareness raising activity.

• Lead efforts to steward major gifts and multi-year funding commitments for new and ongoing projects.

• Oversee tailored stewardship to major donors, ensuring their ongoing engagement and satisfaction with their contributions.

• Collaborate with the CEO and Trustees to identify and approach new prospects.

5. External Communication and Advocacy:

• Inspire stakeholders by expertly representing Big Change at events and external engagements.

• Define and communicate value propositions with ambition and deep insight.

• Advocate for the organisation's work within the philanthropic and broader social impact community.

• Collaborate with the communications team to enhance the organisation’s visibility and reputation through strategic messaging and outreach.

Qualifications / experience

This is an important strategic role within our organisation. You will lead and manage the delivery of our Village Agent Programme which helps vulnerable people within Somerset, improving health and wellbeing, and supporting communities to thrive together.

You will work with the Head of Programmes and other members of the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that the programme delivers our strategic goals and that we are collaborating effectively within the Health & Wellbeing system of Somerset, and the VCFSE sector as a whole.

You will be a key member of the Programmes Team, and will work with colleagues to ensure that all of our community development work is well integrated; and we are making the most of opportunities, internal and external that will help to improve quality of life for individuals and communities in Somerset.

• Look for opportunities to innovate and work with internal and external colleagues to develop new programmes of work to meet community need; implementing and evaluating pilot projects and, if successful, embedding them within the central service.
