OVERVIEW AND JOB PURPOSE
Pump Aid is a dynamic, award winning and growing organisation, which is promoting a radically different approach to aid and development in the WASH sector by establishing Malawi’s first social impact business (Beyond Water) focused on delivering reliable access to clean water for rural communities. We challenge conventional development programmes by taking a business-based approach that ensures long term sustainability and impact for the communities we work with. Clean water results in better health, increases educational attainment and reduces inequality for women and girls across Malawi.
To support our mission we are recruiting a Communications and Fundraising Officer to help deliver on our ambitious growth plans to reach 2 million people by 2030. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated person with strong communication and interpersonal skills, who can plan and create compelling communications to increase awareness of our work and engage new and existing supporters. Furthermore, you will lead on key areas of our fundraising strategy including annual fundraising campaigns, individual giving and small trusts and foundations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- You will lead on defined elements of Pump Aid’s fundraising strategy: scoping, applications, reporting and management (to largely small to medium sized trusts and foundations, community funders and individuals.)
- You will develop and manage a schedule of compelling communications across a number of channels including social media, web and print that will grow engagement with Beyond Water’s mission.
- You will support the Head of Development to pitch to social impact and philanthropic investors by finding creative ways to differentiate ourselves from traditional approaches to international development.
- You will take responsibility for managing and administrating fundraising income, using Salesforce CRM to keep up to date records of donations, keeping donors updated through regular reports and leveraging annual campaigns including the Big Give Christmas Campaign to maximise individual giving donations.
- Maximise the value and duration of donor support through excellent stewardship and relationship management.
- While office hours are notionally 9:00am to 5:30pm, the demands of a business focussed on Africa, with donors in the UK, USA, Europe and Asia mean a degree of flexibility is required.
Candidate Profile
1. Strong experience in planning and executing communications plans across a variety of mediums (social media, website, blog posts, impact reports) to grow awareness and engagement with the work of our social enterprise
2. Demonstrable success in fundraising within the charity sector; scoping, prospecting, proposal writing and reporting.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to present to a variety of audiences
4. Experienced in home working and able to self-motivate and develop and execute personal work and action plans with limited face to face supervision
5. Demonstrable ability to prioritise and manage conflicting outcomes and objectives and ensure the right job is completed at the right time
6. Works well in a small, dynamic team
7. High level of computer literacy – Canva, Microsoft Office, Salesforce or similar CRM software
8. Well organised and can prioritise work to meet deadlines
9. Experience working in international development is preferable.

The Role
We now seek a Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Research Manager to deliver a step change in organisational capacity in the MELR space, develop our approaches to data collection, and coordinate planning and reporting processes. Summary of the role:
The UK Programmes Officer will provide a mixture of administration and project support to the UK Programmes Manager. The role will primarily focus on project document collation, identifying funding opportunities, outreach events and UK organisations that Muslim Aid (MA) can partner in support of our strategy. The role will also oversee the delivery of planned projects ensuring timelines are adhered to within the Muslim Aid thematic areas: Emergencies, Livelihoods, Housing, Health, Education. Focus projects for UK Programmes which the UK Programmes Officer with play a key role are: Winterisation, Ramadan, Qurbani and Food Assistance.
About the Role:
- Collaborate with the UK Programmes Manager to develop ideas into executable projects in line with the workplan.
- Identify UK funding opportunities and their viability for grant distribution that align with MA’s thematic areas and governance requirements.
- Oversee the coordination of project implementation plans and monitor deliverables, following up with stakeholders to ensure they remain on time.
- Track project expenditures highlighting possibilities of over/underspend to budget holder.
- Ensure all policies, practices and procedures are followed in implementation of all projects.
- Analyse government institutions and relevant bodies research, reports and statistics to enhance UK Programmes and strategy.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Educated to bachelor’s degree level.
- Understanding of development programmes design, implementation and evaluation.
- Experience in monitoring programmes; using research in support of programme development.
- Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and team members.

Financial Administration

Bookkeeping: Maintain accurate financial records, including processing receipts, invoices, payments, and expenses.

Budgeting and Reporting: Assist in the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and reports for internal management and external stakeholders.

Grant Management: Track income and expenditure related to grants and restricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.

Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis to ensure the accuracy of financial statements.

Administrative Duties:

Donation processing: Timely and accurate processing of donations including creating receipts and data management.

I’m partnering with an international animal welfare charity, to find their new Communications Officer, who will deliver and support the charity’s press, communications and campaigns projects. In this remote based role (with ad-hoc travel to London), you will ensure their work is in the global news agenda, raising awareness and understanding and generating income activities for the charity.

Accountabilities
Social Media Strategy & Community Management (internal & external)
- Create and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with Practical Action's organizational objectives.
- Responsible for daily community management on social channels, monitoring engagements, responding to comments and/or escalating as appropriate; including out-of-hours cover during major events or exceptional circumstances.
- Leverage Social Listening tools to optimise our social activity performance and reach through creative engagement tactics, including reinforcing Practical Action’s position as a leader in the international development sector.
- Create social media toolkits to allow colleagues and partners to use their own social media channels to share our messaging and campaigns consistently and engagingly.
Digital Content Creation & Dissemination
- Collaborate closely with colleagues from the Brand & Communications unit and beyond in the development and constant optimisation of a content calendar; sourcing stories, updates, and relevant content for digital dissemination across multiple channels including social media and websites.
- Manage the creation of digital content (copy, audio, and graphics including moving image and video), working with cross-functional teams to determine the type of content to produce, and for which platforms, to best meet audience needs and further our objectives.

PERSON PROFILE
Person Specification
To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
Experience & knowledge (Essential unless otherwise indicated).
- Proven experience in digital communications, with a strong focus on multi-regional websites and social media strategy and management, ideally in the international development / INGO sector.
- Demonstrable track record of creating and implementing successful social media initiatives for a wide array of audiences with diverse needs, insights, and digital consumption patterns.
- Robust experience using digital analysis and reporting tools (including Google Analytics and social listening) and applying data-driven insights to optimise communication strategies.
- Expert knowledge of each of the major social media platforms (e.g. Linkedin, Instagram, YouTube) unique opportunities and strengths, and how to leverage them to maximise results.
- Strong understanding of current digital trends, best practices, and emerging platforms.
- Knowledge of SEO, content marketing, and email marketing principles is desirable.
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and platforms.

IRC UK is part of the IRC global network, which has its headquarters in New York. Our team in the UK works to raise IRC’s international profile, deliver policy and practice change, and increase funding to help restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Since 2021, IRC UK has also provided integration services directly to refugees in England, a programme that is rapidly growing.
In Europe, the IRC also has offices in Berlin, Brussels, Geneva and Stockholm.
The Purpose of the Role
The Executive Director, IRC UK is responsible for delivering all of IRC’s targets in the UK, particularly with respect to fundraising, advocacy and communications but also UK finance, operations, and people and culture. The Executive Director leads the UK Senior Management Team.
An important objective for the Executive Director IRC UK will be maintaining the UK as a net contributing office within the IRC and to broaden, deepen and make more sustainable the IRC’s access to funding in the UK. This must be through a compelling and relevant external engagement strategy that harnesses the best of our programming globally.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, IRC Europe and the UK Board of Trustees, the role provides organisational and staff leadership and accountability to IRC UK in a shared management structure. The Executive Director, IRC UK works closely with members of the IRC Senior Leadership Team for Europe to form and implement the departmental organisational agenda.
Given this matrix management structure, it will be critical to the continued success of IRC UK that the Executive Director, IRC UK build a highly effective team by influencing and collaborating with senior leaders across Europe and the global organisation.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Leadership Motivate and build a highly effective and collaborative UK senior team to deliver performance against targets in private and statutory fundraising, advocacy and communications.
• Support the board in delivering its objective to ensure governance and oversight in line with UK statutory obligations e.g. charities Commission and Companies house requirements
• Ensure that the UK Board is aware of and engaging effectively with IRC UK strategic priorities, and lead all ongoing Board engagement,
• Embed a high-performing, “can do” culture across IRC UK which brings together contributions from all functions.
• Provide effective and collaborative matrix management along with colleagues in regional functions in Europe (i.e. communications, policy and advocacy, HR, Finance and Operations) and IRC’s global award management and technical units.
• Leadership of an office of around 250 staff, including staff in UK focused positions and also UK based international staff
• Communicate corporate values both internally and externally and lead by example in organisational ethics and morals.

Stakeholder Engagement and Public Representation
• Develop a stakeholder engagement plan across our various internal and external stakeholder groups.
• Act as an effective ambassador with external stakeholders including government, institutional donors , corporate and private funders in the UK, in close collaboration with the SVP Europe.
• Effectively represent IRC as a member Trustee and engage with the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC)
• Effectively represent IRC and engage IRC Patron
• Act as a compelling spokesperson to share IRC’s positions in British media and publicly advocate for IRC policy priorities
• Effectively engage with all media and opinion-forming organisations to protect and enhance the reputation and visibility of IRC UK.
• Develop a strong relationship with UK charities and regulators to proactively improve the standing of the organisation, and ensure its compliance on all reporting requirements.
Planning, Delivery and Performance
• Take overall accountability for achieving agreed performance measures in all areas of the IRC UK’s activities e.g. Resettlement Asylum and Integration (RAI) programme, particularly fundraising, communications and advocacy in the UK.
• Define and monitor the effectiveness of IRC UK’s operating model to ensure quality, service and cost-effective management of resources.
• Define and track key performance indicators with the UK Senior Management Team to ensure and report on delivery of objectives.
• Contribute to the IRC 2020-25 strategic planning process by coordinating the input from the UK as required by the SVP Europe and the Global Strategy Unit.
• Review management and financial reporting and statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives, and revise plans in accordance with current conditions.
Governance
• Represent IRC UK at the Europe Senior Management Team meetings.
• Lead the IRC UK Senior Management Team.
• A member of the Global Senior Leaders’ Group led by the IRC President.
• Report to the IRC UK Board of Trustees and prepare three annual Board meetings.
• Create sustainable and effective internal structures between global functional departments and the UK office.
• Ensure IRC UK operates effectively within all relevant statutory, regulatory and quality frameworks and to the highest ethical and governance standards.

Role context:
Cord’s turnover is about £2m a year. About 85% of Cord’s funding is restricted, coming from institutional donors like the EU and the US government, and 15% (about £300K) is unrestricted coming from a committed UK supporter base and other private fundraising streams.
In 2024, Cord operates in eight countries and has offices in Burundi, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia & Philippines. Cord has a global team of thirty people with finance staff across six country teams.
The Finance Manager role is a newly created role which is being introduced to strengthen the organisation’s financial management and control systems. The postholder will work across the breadth of the finance function preparing internal management accounts and external annual accounts.
In 2024, Cord changed its finance system to use Business Central. The Finance Manager will become the organisation’s main ‘admin’ user of the finance system. In the near-term, there will be a particular focus on rolling out further functionality of the system.
The Finance Manager will have oversight of the UK finance function through the line management of the UK Finance Officer and will directly deliver on the international side of operations in the areas of donor compliance, programme financial management, partner financial monitoring, and reporting. The role will involve travel to international programme locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- To support the Head of Operations to provide finance team leadership, develop and deliver an annual finance workplan to ensure continual improvement, and to drive finance capacity across the organisation
- To ensure the effective financial management of the organisation create and maintain effective financial control
- To be the Business Central Finance System Lead, developing functionality, troubleshooting and capacitating system users
- To ensure financial compliance: prepare statutory accounts, partner compliance, donor compliance and financial reporting
