The London Youth Hub, based in Islington, provides emergency accommodation and support to help young people facing rough sleeping to transition into safe, long-term housing and achieve independence. The Services Manager supports the Head of Services in overseeing NHYC’s Youth Hub, managing daily operations, coordinating with Depaul UK to facilitate smooth transitions into long-term housing, and building partnerships with external stakeholders to improve housing pathways. Additionally, the manager leads and develops a team of Assessment and Resettlement Workers, oversees daily work planning and safeguarding, while addressing complex cases and supporting staff in securing project resources. Overall role and responsibilities

We are seeking to employ an experienced finance and operations professional to play a central role in our UK team as we grow. We are looking for a candidate with excellent financial and operations skills and experience, who will thrive working in a small and dynamic team.

The responsibilities of this role will include:

1. Financial Management

• Be responsible for and run the organisation’s bookkeeping and financial management processes including invoices, expenses and bank payments.
• Produce and manage the organisational cash flow, project cash flows and management accounts.
• Be responsible for and run payroll monthly.
• Compile and submit VAT returns quarterly.
• Support the Executive Director with managing the charity and project budgets and financial reporting to the board and funders.
• Work with the organisation’s Accountant and trustees to support the production of Annual Accounts and Independent Examination.

2. Administration

• Oversee the day-to-day administration of the charity to promote smooth business operations, including the efficiency of organisational systems.
• Ensure that appropriate insurance cover is maintained, and manage any claims as they arise.
• Support the Executive Director with board meetings and other board matters.
• Support Executive Director and trustees in ensuring Charity Commission and Companies House information is up to date.
• Support the maintenance of our contacts databas

3. HR

• Manage recruitment and induction of new staff and volunteers.
• Create, implement and review all policies and procedures for the organisation, ensuring we are up to date with statutory requirements, and good practice is incorporated where practical.
• Manage HR procedures including contracts and leave for staff.

The role will also include:

• Support in organising events online and in person.
• Assisting in responses to general enquiries to the organisation.
• Potential line management of junior staff and interns as appropriate.
• Contribute actively to the implementation of Institute-wide decisions and strategy.

Personal Specification

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate many of the following skills and attributes:

Essential:

• A relevant professional accountancy qualification (AAT, CIMA, ACA, ACCA) with some experience of working independently or with minimal supervision, preferably in the charity sector.
• At least 3 years’ relevant professional experience in a similar administrative, financial or management role.
• Experience of using accounting software and managing the financial administration of an organisation including paying and issuing invoices, reconciling bank accounts, and running payroll.
• Experience and confidence in producing and managing an organisational cashflow, budgets and management accounts.
• Experience of preparing and submitting VAT returns.
• Experience of creating and reviewing HR policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills
• As part of a small team you will also need the ability to turn your hand to a variety of tasks.

Desirable:

• Background, interest and experience in environmental policy, and the UK’s relationship with the EU and the rest of Europe.

Power for Democracies is a new international pro-democracy research initiative with a mission to protect and strengthen liberal democracies around the world. Our goal is to identify the most relevant and effective pro-democracy projects by civil society organisations in the context of current and emerging threats to democracies. 

Power for Democracies identifies these projects by systematically synthesising and analysing existing research and, where necessary, conducting and commissioning new research. We aim to publish recommendations that private and institutional donors, as well as civil society actors, can use to decide how and where to allocate their limited resources to best serve democracies. 

Communication and outreach are critical to the success of our mission. We seek to combine evidence-based research with academic knowledge and practical, results-oriented civil society experience. Our communications, online publications and other public-facing interactions address complex and dynamic issues, but must be accessible, transparent and informative to a range of audiences. The successful, targeted dissemination of our recommendations to the international donor community, their advisors and institutional grant-makers is critical to our mission. The attention that the assessed and recommended projects receive, and ultimately the funding that goes to these highly effective civil society initiatives, is key to achieving the positive change we aim for. 

Your responsibilities as the Head of Communications:

• Help position Power for Democracies as the "go to" evidence-based research and evaluation entity in the pro-democracy field with relevant stakeholders, donor groups, networks, institutions, and civil society spaces. 
• Recruit and build the small communications team in charge of Power for Democracies’ communication and distribution formats, channels, and tools. 
• Develop Power for Democracies' outreach and dissemination strategies (in close collaboration with the Knowledge + Research team) to gain meaningful attention from experts, the pro-democracy space, and donors alike. 
• Develop effective media and communication formats that best address the needs of our target groups (websites, white papers, podcast/videocast features, talks etc.). 
• Oversee the successful translation and adaptation of our research outputs into concise, informative, and engaging content. 
• In collaboration with our research experts, develop and plan our publication formats and oversee the Power for Democracies publishing calendar.

As head of our small communications team, you are part of the management team and have a decisive role for Power for Democracies' success. Given the startup nature of the organization, additional tasks may arise ad hoc, such as contributions to networking and fundraising of the organisation. You report to the Executive Director. 

What you bring: 

• At least 6-10 years' practical experience in communications, media, publishing/editing or fundraising, including substantive experience in or for a research institution, think tank, science editorial team or equivalent. 
• At least two years in a senior role and solid experience of working with teams of content producers and publishing content on time. 
• A solid and nuanced understanding of the relevant spaces and stakeholders.

Salary: £40k +

Our client is an exciting new social enterprise lettings agency, with profits reinvested into supporting people experiencing homelessness and on low incomes to find good quality, affordable homes in London. 

They are now looking to appoint a dynamic individual to join their team as a Property Advisor. A blend of the traditional Negotiator and Property Manager roles, you will be the go-to person for all aspects of your portfolio from start to finish. As one of the first key hires for this exciting new company, you will be an integral part of the business succeeding.

Key Responsibilities

A background in the PRS will be essential, with previous experience within property management being helpful. You will need to provide great customer service to your landlords and tenants alike as well as:

Managing Your Portfolio

•    Marketing and listing properties
•    Viewings and property visits
•    Checking all compliance is up to date
•    Completing inventory checks and moving in new tenants
•    Drawing up check-out reports and organising deposit release

Move In Process

•    Seamless communication so the process runs smoothly
•    Organising any requests for the tenancy prior to move date
•    Referencing all applicants
•    Drawing up paperwork and handling move-in monies
•    Attending key handover and walk through property with new tenant

Property Works

•    Being available for calls and emails when repairs are required
•    Speaking with contractors to book in the repair
•    Updating landlords and tenants on progress and costs
•    Ensuring work is completed and exceeds all minimum standards

Business Development

•    Following up on new opportunities
•    Keeping an eye on the portal for stock that would suit their applicants
•    Promoting them through social media channels
•    Spending time talking and integrating with the local community

Social Media

•    Understanding their marketing strategy to keep channels updated
•    Engaging with local business to help promote them
•    Updating Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn when required
•    Seeking new partnership opportunities within these platforms

Skills Required

•    Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, both verbally & in writing
•    Demonstrable ability to remain calm in complex scenarios & build positive relationships with tenants & landlords
•    Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and be responsive to the needs of your portfolio, including responding to urgent tasks at short notice 
•    Willingness to go the extra mile, and to always do the right thing

Experience Required

•    Previous experience in the lettings market
•    Proven knowledge & understanding of the private rented housing sector 
•    Confident with compliance requirements for a tenant to move-in
•    A PRS letting agency qualification is preferable but not essential

Philanthropy Manager 

Job Description and Person Specification 

Reporting to: Head of Philanthropy in the Fundraising Team 

Location of Work: Home based. The post holder will be expected to travel to meet donors, travel to away days and team meetings in London. On occassion, you will need to be able to attend early morning breakfast visits therefore the post holder will need to live close to London.

The role may involve some irregular travel throughout England and Scotland. Expenses will be paid in line with our Travel and Expenses policy. 

Contract Type: Ideally full-time, 35 hours per week, although part time / flexible hours may be considered. The role may require occasional evening and weekend work  

Contract Length: Permanent

BACKGROUND 

Magic Breakfast provide a nutritious and filling breakfast to over 200,000 children and young people every school day. We work with schools in areas of high disadvantage, helping staff target the children most in need without barrier or stigma.  Magic Breakfast are ambitious to grow our impact to remove hunger as a barrier to learning for all children and young people in the UK. 

The new UK government’s Children’s Wellbeing Bill outlined in the King’s Speech, includes a requirement for free school breakfast clubs in every English primary school. This is a fantastic start towards ending child morning hunger. Magic Breakfast’s influence will be instrumental to ensuring school breakfasts are introduced in a way that is hunger-focused and barrier free. In 2021, the Scottish Government, pledged a not yet enacted promise to provide breakfast to primary children. 

Thousands of secondary school children are at risk of losing their free school breakfasts from September next year. For many of these students, this is their only opportunity to have a nutritious meal before facing a demanding school day, including taking exams.

JOB PURPOSE 

Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good the Philanthropy team’s role is to develop and deliver the charity's high net worth individual giving programme in line with Magic Breakfast’s strategic priorities to enable our organisational growth against our mission. 

We are seeking to grow income through further cultivation and stewardship of our potential and existing donors. Our High Value Giving teams are forecast to collectively raise £5.1m in 2021/22, up from £4.6m two years ago in 2019/20. The team includes partnerships with charitable trusts and foundations, corporate organisations, and high-net-worth individuals. 

Reporting into the Head of Philanthropy, this role will have a particular focus on ensuring that Magic Breakfast is offering the highest quality of donor care from start to finish, and building and developing our prospect pipeline.

We’re looking for a proactive person with excellent relationship building, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship skills as we seek to build our prospect pool, enhance or supporter journey and achieve our ambitious fundraising targets.

The Philanthropy Manager will have the opportunity to be innovative and creative, to create and test impactful donor journeys and engagement opportunities so Magic Breakfast’s supporters feel valued and can understand the transformational difference they are making to hungry children and their learning in the UK. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Manage your own portfolio of donors, providing excellent stewardship and strategies to uplift and secure multi year donations

• Work with Corporate, Trusts and Individual Giving teams to identify potential major donors and high value regular givers within Magic Breakfast’s donor portfolio and implement plans to develop these relationships;

• Support the Head of Philanthropy to build relationships with senior volunteers to garner their support and help encourage introductions to their networks

• Ensure all donations are thanked and recorded in a timely way, and logged accurately on salesforce

• Support Head of Philanthropy in accurately forecasting philanthropy income for each financial year, and ensure forecast income is updated monthly.

Further to this you will be role responsible for the line management of the Risk and Assurance Team.

• Risk Management qualification (e.g., Institute of Risk Management), or relevant experience.

• Experience of designing risk management policies/procedures and Risk Maps.

• Ability to quickly understand a range of operating procedures and practices relevant to audit and risk management plans to assist in producing practical conclusions to issues faced by the function.

• Knowledge of audit planning, testing and system evaluation and recording (including interviewing client staff) in accordance with mandatory standards and local policies and procedures.

• Understands all elements of a risk-based audit assignment over the range of internal audits (routine and non-routine) across different functions.

• Has a good knowledge of enterprise-wide risk and audit processes, not just financial risk management and audit, and an ability to distil outcomes from these processes into practical and focussed recommendations for business process improvement.
