Reprieve works with the most disenfranchised people in society. We fight our clients’ cases in courts around the world; investigate their mistreatment; and advocate on their behalf, encouraging public and political debate of human rights issues.

Reprieve’s main office is in Whitechapel, London, UK. Reprieve also supports full-time Fellows, who work as lawyers, investigators and campaigners in the countries in which we work. We work closely with a number of partner organisations in jurisdictions all over the world, who provide access to clients, expertise, knowledge and guidance on specific issues or regions. We work in cooperation with relevant government officials, individual lawyers and human rights defenders, as well as individual, corporate and foundation funders to further the cause of our shared goals.

About the Role

The Head of US Death Penalty Projects is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s work against the death penalty in the United States of America.

 Background to Reprieve’s work against the death penalty in the US

 Reprieve has worked against the death penalty since our founding. In recent years we have built a particular specialism in issues relating to lethal injection, the most popular execution method in the US. Lethal injection has been touted as a more humane than other methods – a modern, clean, clinical way to execute. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Lethal injection executions go wrong more often than any other execution method, often resulting in prolonged and torturous executions, commonly known as “botched” executions. Through our work we aim to dispel the myth of the humane execution, working with allies across medicine, business and other sectors to end the misuse of medicines and medical technology in executions.

The existing portfolio of work includes litigation, investigation and analysis, corporate engagement, a wide range of public and private advocacy, and developing and maintaining world-leading expertise on execution methods, particularly the jurisprudence and science relevant to lethal injection.

About You

You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies in which each of Reprieve’s methodologies—investigation, litigation, casework political and public engagement, support for and (where possible and appropriate) advocacy with affected communities—connect with one another to achieve positive outcomes in the death penalty landscape and address structural rights violations.

Location, contract and salary

The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance. Reprieve works across a number of jurisdictions; as such this is a role that may require work outside of core hours from time to time. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% from the London office and the rest of the week from home.

The Volunteer and Community Development Coordinator will work with the Director to deliver Hope St Mellons’ commitment to invest in volunteering; helping to support, sustain and develop work with volunteers at the Beacon Centre and through Hope St Mellons activities across St Mellons. We are seeking a Public affairs lead with familiarity with the UK’s political landscape who can take forward our campaigns for policy change to reduce the environmental harms of advertising and consumption of high-carbon travel, particularly aviation. We are seeking change in three principle areas:

• Tobacco-style legislation to restrict advertising for high carbon products, namely: airlines, airports, non-electric cars (especially SUVs) and fossil fuel companies
• Strengthening national planning regulations to protect our public spaces and neighbourhoods from the spread of intrusive, outdoor digital advertising screens.
• The introduction of policies to reduce demand for aviation in a fair and equitable manner, including a frequent flyer levy.

Working with others in the Possible team and our partner organisations on the Badvertising project Adfree Cities and New Weather Institute, you’ll keep on top of the latest developments in areas of sustainable transport, aviation and  public space planning policies. You’ll design interventions and events for innovative policy proposals which move the ‘choice architecture’ in which we make decisions away from business-as-usual and towards an economy that puts communities, sustainability and a liveable planet first. The Baobab Centre is a non-residential therapeutic community that supports young asylum seekers and refugees who have experienced human rights abuses and have sought asylum in the UK as unaccompanied minors. Our two focus areas are rehabilitation and justice.

This is a unique oppertunity for a passionate and experienced fundraiser to progress further in their career, with the freedom to creatively enhance and develop the fundraising strategy of an impactful community-based charity.

As Senior Fundraising Lead you will be Baobab’s key fundraiser and a self-starter with experience of working in a small or medium sized charity. You will lead on the development of fundraising at Baobab, exploring new avenues for funding, as well as nurturing and growing existing fundraising relationships. You will be responsible for strategising and carrying out a successful program of fundraising from small, medium and large charitable trusts and foundations to an agreed annual fundraising target. You will also assist in delivering Baobab’s individual major donor programme, helping to set up and deliver communications and events related to this income stream. There is scope to explore further fundraising activites including events, corporate and community fundraising. You will play a central role and work closely with our operations team, as well as recieving expert monthly mentoring from a senoir fundraising consultant. 

This role is for 4 or 5 days per week depending on your preference, it will include Fridays which is when staff meetings are held.

Mental Health:  All of the young people Baobab supports suffer significant mental health and developmental difficulties and many function in an unstable and more immature way than their chronological age. Due to their experiences it takes time to gain trust from the young people in our community. As a core member of our team, you will understand the impact of specific human rights abuses on the development of children and young people in exile and their individual experiences of loss, trauma and grief on their mental health and well-being. 

Baobab’s Model: Please read the accompanying ‘Baobab Clincial Context and Model’ document for a detailed introduction. It often takes a significant amount of time to understand Baobab’s model of working, which aims for rehabilitation and justice through attending to both the internal and external world of each young. It is important that you strive to have an insight to the experiences of both the internal and external factors impacting on the lives of unaccompanied young people attending our centre. It is also important that you understand the ways in which UK society and policy impacts on young asylum seekers (including invisibility, marginalisation, discrimination, and the fact of waiting in uncertainty for a long time).

Multi-disciplinary Working: Baobab aims to be a reflective, thinking organisation and we place a high value on shared thinking time, sharing responsibilities and working together with others. A key aspect of the role is communicating and working in a holistic way.

As Complex Needs Community Keyworker you will provide one-to-one support to women on Probation living in the community, and women being released from Prison as part of their Post Sentence Supervision. You’ll provide focused support in identifying their needs and empowering them to access appropriate services in the community. You will also provide some in-reach and ‘Through the Gate’ support prior to women being released from prison.

You will manage a caseload of women with complex needs who are facing housing issues and provide them with advice, guidance and support that helps them connect with other support services in the community that can assist them to overcome barriers when securing safe and appropriate housing.

The role involves a significant amount of data recording and updating case management systems so you need to be prepared to spend a minimum of 35% of your working hours on this aspect and will need to manage your time effectively to meet the data management requirements. This is also a predominantly independent role, so you will need to be confident to make decisions and able to manage your own workload.

You will be employed by One Small Thing but will be part of a wider team of Community Keyworkers employed by our partner Advance. You will also have a desk space at Hope Street, Southampton, to facilitate close working with the rest of the Hope Street team.

You will be required to participate in training and team building events with the wider One Small Thing team as well as the Advance team, in Hampshire.

This post requires that you are able to drive and have access to your own vehicle; there may be occasions where you are required to support residents to attend appointments. You will also be required to attend local or county meetings or training.

About the role

The Wilder Communities Officer will inspire and support community-led action for wildlife and empower local people to create more wildlife rich spaces on their doorstep.  Working with colleagues across the Trust, the officer will help to build a wilder future through local community action for nature, with a particular focus on rivers and wetland habitats, and linking in with our Species Survival in Hertfordshire’s Chalk Rivers project.

Project summary - Species Recovery for Chalk Steams – Wilder Communities

Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust has secured a grant from the Species Survival Fund, a partnership between Defra and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The Species Survival Fund is enabling the Trust to deliver an ambitious restoration programme for our chalk river and wetland habitats across 11.15km of the River Lea Catchment in Hertfordshire.  As part of the project, with additional funding, the Trust will be working in local communities to highlight the importance of our chalk streams and wetland habitats and enabling groups and individuals to take their own local action for wildlife.

This community organising work will initially focus on communities in and around Welwyn Garden City and Hertford.

You’ll contribute your creativity to translating climate urgency into socially just and workable proposals the public can get behind - and get stuck into. This interim role is designed to cover a 12 month parental leave period, and will join during a period of wider organisational change. This creates opportunities for impact, but presents challenges too. You’ll therefore be someone who is comfortable working within organisational change, is able to adapt quickly to new circumstances, take initiative - and sees themselves as a team player.

The role sits within a collaborative leadership team, comprising two Co-directors until July 2025, and three from July-November 2025 (due to a Co-director returning from sabbatical). The Co-directors are jointly responsible for the strategic, efficient, sustainable and impactful running - and development - of the organisation, with each being assigned specific areas of accountability across key functions.

What you will bring

• Demonstrable ability to work as part of a senior leadership team with a commitment to principles of shared leadership, and to take responsibility for decision making at a senior level.

• Experience of organisational management and planning at a strategic level, including involvement in high level budgeting processes. You must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the challenges of running a UK based small-medium charity, but that doesn’t mean you have to be working for one.

• Experience of working for mission driven organisations, including an ability to ensure delivery at the level of organisational mission, and experience of developing and managing key senior relationships - including funders.

• Strong experience of developing and delivering campaign strategies, ideally within the environmental sector, and of maintaining effective systems for tracking and reporting impact.

• Demonstrable commitment to driving public engagement in climate action and achieving climate justice.

• Experience of line management of senior managers, and a commitment to anti-oppressive working, staff welfare and a mutually supportive organisational culture.

• Extensive experience of project and programme management, and the ability to provide project support and oversight.

• A strong understanding of what makes digital communications, press and media work successful in delivering campaigning outcomes.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrable ability to think independently, critically and creatively - including experience of developing project ideas.

• Strong experience of fundraising for both restricted and unrestricted grants.
