Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer charity. We're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. We support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.

We currently have around 80 staff based in England, Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland.

There are huge challenges facing bowel cancer patients across the UK, and our community needs us now more than ever. We are looking for someone dynamic, proactive and passionate about patient support, to be our first Senior Services Officer for Scotland. You will work to develop and deliver a portfolio of support and information services for people in Scotland affected by bowel cancer. In the Services team, we currently have a range of peer support and information services and are constantly innovating, testing and refining our offer to ensure they reach as many people as possible and provide the support they want. This role will be responsible for scaling our existing services in Scotland and adapting them to meet the specific needs of patients and their families across the country. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with our patient community and lead change across the bowel cancer pathway in patient support.

About the Team

This key role sits within the Regional Corporate team, which exists to unlock income and brand engagement potential through innovative and multi-layered partnerships with businesses present in local communities and/or with potential to generate up to £100k per year. The team works closely with regional colleagues in the wider Community Fundraising team to maximise value through this priority income stream.

Job Purpose

Our successful candidate will be responsible for maximising regional corporate financial contribution and wider value through effective, supporter-led acquisition and account management.  This is a 12-month maternity cover position, and is a great opportunity to work with a diverse range of teams across fundraising and marketing.

 Key accountabilities

• Identify suitable leads, carry out thorough research, and engage businesses through the prospecting sales journey to secure new regional corporate partnerships
• Provide first-class account management and stewardship for existing partners, maximising value for both parties and supporting long-term retention
• Offer corporate insight and expertise to support acquisition and account management across the department's regional fundraising teams
• Coach and inspire the department's network of Community Fundraising Managers to excel in corporate fundraising
• Collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to develop innovative propositions for businesses
• Support the development and delivery of acquisition, stewardship and product strategies to maximise the income stream's impact on income and brand engagement
• Contribute to the growth and development of the regional corporate pipeline of partnership opportunities
• Contribute to departmental income reporting, budgeting and forecasting.

 Person Profile

• Proven record of corporate new business and securing new partnerships worth over £25k
• Experience of managing high-value corporate-charity relationships and delivering exceptional supporter experience
• Experience of working with fundraising databases (preferably CARE) and pipelines
• Able to think creatively and to develop tailor-made proposals to meet corporate and
  Save the Children objectives
• Excellent relationship management, research and presentation skills
• A natural communicator, both verbal and written with impressive problem-solving and decision-making skills
• The ability to coach and inspire others to achieve ambitious goals

Ways of Working:

As Policy & Engagement Officer, you will work with the Hope for the Future team to:

• Act as constituents’ main point of contact at HFTF, working with them to effectively engage their elected representatives by supporting them through the constituent journey (including offering tailored advice, letter writing, meeting preparation and coaching, facilitation and follow-up as needed).

This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a charity providing vital support to some of
the most deprived members of our community. The Watford and Three Rivers
Refugee Partnership (WTRRP) provides services to refugees, asylum-
seekers and other vulnerable migrants in our area, to improve their well-being and interaction with the local community and services. The Casework Coordinator role will focus on ensuring that asylum seekers and refugees engaging
within our service will receive specialist information, advice and advocacy support.
This role will provide support to clients dealing with key issues of
immigration, housing, welfare and health. You will work alongside a strong
established group of volunteers who currently provide a number of roles within the
organisation.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a caseload of clients who require specialist advice and support, ensuring that cases are progressed effectively, including detailed record-keeping.
• Work effectively with the Committee, Office Manager and caseworker
volunteers to ensure issues are resolved. This includes the running
of regular Case Review meetings and managing the minutes and case
records.
• Offer support and guidance, including training where appropriate, to volunteer
Caseworkers and Befrienders.
• Implementation of our safeguarding policies coordinating with our
Safeguarding Lead.
• Take a lead role in weekly Drop-In sessions on
Tuesdays 11am – 1pm.
• Manage a referral phone line.
• Process enquiries about WTRRP, take referrals for clients and contribute to
regular referral intake meetings, offering triage support and signposting.
• Create links and work effectively with public sector agencies to ensure our clients can access all entitled support in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Create effective referral relationships within the refugee sector and wider
charity sector to ensure our clients have access to high quality and effective
support through specialist agencies and services.

Qualities and skills:
Be able to work on your own initiative and independently, with good
organisational skills and IT knowledge.
Be a team-worker with good communication skills, and should have
experience of casework and of working alongside volunteers. You will have an understanding of
safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children.
Have a good understanding of the issues affecting asylum seekers, refugees
and people seeking Leave to Remain and the barriers they face.
Experience in relation to the benefit
system, be able to keep up with law changes as they take place and the impact of these changes on our clients.

Desirable experience:
Experience of advocating on behalf of vulnerable client
groups to ensure that they get fair access to services, including a
knowledge of housing options available and the mechanisms that can
be used to advocate effectively on behalf of clients.
Experience of working with people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds,
and/or skill in languages.
OISC Level 1 (or higher) qualification or are willing to study for this in the future.

Proposed terms of employment:
• Salary: £27,000-£33,000 depending on experience and qualification
• Duration of contract: two years, extendable
• 37 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work for committee and volunteer support meetings.

In this role you’ll be both strategic and hands-on, solely managing the financial controls for this small charity with a £350k annual turnover.  You will support the Director and senior management team through your management of financial processes, policy and planning.

This will include using accountancy software to process income and expenditure, producing management accounts for the senior management team and Board, and ensuring the charity reports to its key funders, including Arts Council England. 

You’ll process payroll for our small team of 6 employees, taking care of liaison with HMRC as well as handling external audit and company filing.

Terms and Conditions   

Hours of Work: 7.5 hours per week (1 day).  These hours can be worked flexibly.      

Contract: This is a permanent employment contract with a 3 month probationary period.    

Salary: The full-time equivalent salary for this position is £40,000 – 45,000 per annum (pro rata to 7.5 hours per week).        

Location: Home-working.

What You'll Be Doing:

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy Development

• Assist in creating, implementing, and refining a comprehensive fundraising plan.
• Regularly contribute to the development of the organisational fundraising strategy, with a specific focus on individual donors and new fundraising opportunities.
• Stay current with fundraising opportunities and best practices, recommending changes in WECare's funding strategies to ensure continuous improvement and growth.
• Donor Engagement and Relationship Management
• Develop and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and potential supporters.
• Support donor stewardship initiatives for all types of supporters, including individuals, corporate, major, and legacy donations, ensuring ongoing engagement, retention, and growth.
• Work with the Head of Fundraising to develop and implement donor journeys that encourage long-term support from individuals and ensure high-quality ongoing communication with potential and existing donors.
• Ensure all individual donations are processed efficiently and supporters are thanked in a timely manner, maintaining a positive relationship that leads to increased donor retention.

Digital Fundraising

• Assist in driving online fundraising initiatives, including managing crowdfunding efforts and coordinating social media appeals.
• Collaborate with the team to ensure the charity's website is updated with the latest fundraising activities and donation options, maintaining a dynamic and engaging online presence.

Trusts and foundations

• Support the Head of Fundraising with research and identification of grant opportunities relevant to WECare.
• Collaborate in preparing and submitting grant applications to trusts and foundations, including checking monitoring data, proofreading reports, and ensuring timely submission.
• Work with the team to implement corporate fundraising policies, ensuring that WECare can respond appropriately to fundraising approaches by companies.

Community Fundraising and Event Planning

• Collaborate with the Head of Fundraising and the team to create and implement a comprehensive Community Fundraising Strategy.
• Plan, organise, and execute a diverse range of fundraising events, including supporter dinners, challenge events like the Great North Run, charity walks, auctions, and community fairs.
• Expand local support networks in both Sri Lanka and the UK.
• Organise occasional engagement events for supporters, further strengthening relationships and encouraging continued financial support.
• Coordinate with volunteers and staff to ensure seamless event execution and the achievement of fundraising targets.
• Manage and steward Challenge event (Great North Run) fundraisers through the WhatsApp group chat, fostering a supportive and motivated network.
• Work closely with the broader team to develop a Volunteer Fundraising Strategy.

Data Management and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of all fundraising activities, monitor income, and donor information on the charity database.
• Assist in developing and managing the new CRM system, including setting up and integrating a comprehensive database CRM platform and Mailchimp for effective donor communication and management.
• Ensure donor data is meticulously maintained, supporting the use of CRM tools to manage donor relationships effectively, including ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
• Contribute to the refinement and thorough documentation of new digital processes such as the Sponsor a Dog (SPAD) programme, ensuring clear guidelines and streamlined operations across all initiatives.

Who We’re Looking For:
We’re looking for someone who’s not just passionate about our mission but also brings a can-do attitude and a bit of flair. You should be experienced in fundraising, event planning, and donor management, with a solid understanding of data protection regulations (we like to keep things safe and sound). You’re great with words, can whip up persuasive content in no time, and know your way around a CRM and platforms like Mailchimp.

But more than anything, we’re looking for someone who’s ready to roll up their sleeves, dive into the world of charity work, and make a real difference in the lives of street dogs around the world and the communities that care for them.

Skills and Experience:

• Excellent communication and administration skills.
• Experience in organising fundraising events.
• Experience working at a charity or other non-profit organisation.
• Experience in developing fundraising materials.
• Experience using a donor management database/CRM
• Experience in building strong and effective relationships with existing donors and potential supporters.
• Ability to write persuasive content to encourage support.
• High standard of computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, databases).
• Understanding of fundraising from trusts and foundations.
• Understanding of data protection regulations.
• Competence using e-newsletter platforms (e.g. Mailchimp)

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Social Impact Analyst to work as part of our Evidence & Impact Team.

The Evidence & Impact team work collaboratively with staff across Rethink Mental Illness to ensure that impact is at the heart of how we design and deliver services and projects. We have a dual role, supporting delivery staff in improving practice and realising outcomes for people severely affected by mental illness, and providing an evidence base to inform campaigning and influencing activities.

I am an organisational advocate for achieving better social impact by effectively using evidence to improve support for people affected by serious mental illness.

I conduct analysis and present a range of quantitative and qualitative impact data for a range of reports for internal stakeholders and external commissioners.

I create and maintain a range of service Business Intelligence reports/dashboards for Rethink, that enables us to effectively communicate impact and learn from this.

I present and disseminate impact evidence effectively via multiple channels, online and face to face.

How you will make a difference

As a Social Impact Analyst I work as part of the Evidence & Impact team at Rethink Mental Illness. This team sits within the Corporate Resources Directorate, in Quality and Business Intelligence, but our focus is increasingly organisation wide. We work collaboratively with staff across the organisation to make sure that impact is at the heart of what we do, measuring and learning from impact evidence to improve outcomes for people affected by serious mental illness, demonstrating their impact to stakeholders, and helping to inform our policy and campaigns work.

Your main responsibilities:

• Seek and develop Social Enterprise projects in keeping with our values which are financially viable and meet the need of the communities involved.
• Work with Local Councils, Government bodies and other organisations in the regeneration of the high street, finding new shop opportunities, and developing profitable recycling and reuse projects.
• Build links and partnerships with Universities and similar organisations and deliver rummage sales, kilo sales, pop up shops and donation drives.
• Explore opportunities and develop projects that collaborate with like-minded organisations and corporate businesses.
• To contribute, develop, manage, and report on financial budgets, income and costs regularly with a focus on net surplus generation, working closely with the Finance department.
• Have an understanding of other SVP work and be able to promote it to external contacts appropriately, and work with SVP members to compliment their work and develop links.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

• Proven track record in researching, negotiating and developing new and net surplus generating projects
• Experience of financial management and budgetary control, and proven ability in business planning, and maximisation of net surplus
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and evidence of using them to communicate with different audiences
• Excellent and natural networking, influencing and negotiating skills, including the ability to collaborate and build partnerships through the development of contacts with senior external stakeholders
• IT literate with good competence in the use of Microsoft Office
• Good standard of Education, preferably to Higher or Degree level
