About us

Who we are

Hope for the Future is a UK-based charity which began in 2013 as a small Yorkshire-based campaign in the lead up to the 2015 general election.Having gained charitable status in 2017, we now deliver our training to hundreds of concerned constituents, campaigners, campaign groups, youth groups and major climate NGOs every year.

We believe in the power of democratic engagement in calling for action on climate change and the nature crisis. We support constituents to secure greater and more ambitious action from the government - across all levels - by having effective conversations with their elected representatives. We are the only organisation dedicated to the research and practice of effective constituent communication about the climate and nature crises with their local representatives.

We offer in person and online training workshops run by our team of experts in political and democratic engagement

We have trained thousands of people and supported engagements with hundreds of MPs, and countless other local councillors.

We also support national and local campaigns to effectively communicate their campaign message or demands with their MP. Our campaign support is bespoke to each campaign, and we have a huge range of support available.

This year's general election is the climate movement’s last chance to make a political impact ahead of the 2024 general election. HftF will focus its energies on amplifying key climate and nature campaigns to maximise the political impact of their public engagement.

This coming year, we want to support more people to meet their politicians than ever before. Organisations, campaign groups, individual campaigners, we’re here to support you to get their voices heard.

Our vision is to see politicians of all political persuasions joining together with communities across the UK to take decisive action on climate change.

Our culture and values

Our Vision

To see that together, communities and politicians secure a healthy planet for all.

Our Mission

We will achieve this vision by strengthening democratic engagement to drive inclusive action on the climate and nature crises.

Our values

Hope for the Future’s Values

Purpose-driven

HFTF exists to mitigate climate change and strengthen democracy in the UK. We are hopeful in our outlook towards a sustainable future, acting with integrity in our pursuit to protect our planet. We act with courage and take risks where necessary.

Collaborative

We value a positive workplace environment and work in a supportive way across our teams. We also work in collaboration with the constituents we support, politicians and our partners across sectors.

Compassionate

We are respectful and empathetic in our approach and communications, and act with compassion, particularly with those we may not agree with. We use the principles of Nonviolent Communication to understand the perspectives of others and build relationships.

Effective

We are innovative, strategic and ambitious in our mission to prioritise climate change on the political agenda. We work hard and achieve impact, continuously learning along the way. We are resilient and recognise our priorities and maintain focus.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We believe that we cannot combat the climate crisis without climate justice. We must include every voice in the transition to a greener, fairer world, and to do so we must engage with and raise the voices of those less likely to be heard. We are actively seeking to diversify our team.

Supporting Diversity in our team

At Hope for the Future we believe that our staff team should reflect the diversity in society.  We are committed to creating an environment that is inclusive and equitable.  We acknowledge that people from certain backgrounds are under-represented in progressive movements and may have encountered barriers to accessing political institutions or the climate movement in the past and so place the emphasis on transferable skills and personal attributes over relevant previous experience for this role.

We particularly want to encourage applicants from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities and from disabled people as these are under-represented within our current staff team.

We ask candidates with a  protected characteristic to indicate this on their application form.  We follow HFTF’s EDI in recruitment guidelines to ensure a fair and transparent process.  We ensure our application and interview processes are accessible and inclusive  - interview questions can be provided in advance and reasonable adjustments will be made for neurodiverse and/or disabled applicants upon request.
