Job Title: Fundraising Officer

Background:
Central London Samaritans (CLS) is the largest of Samaritans’ 201 branches.
Based in the heart of Soho (*), 450 volunteers deliver the Samaritans service round the clock, every day of the year providing support for anyone struggling to cope. Our core objective is to deliver services that support the Samaritans vision that fewer people will die by suicide. Assisted by a small staff team, volunteers manage over 100,000 contacts a year of which, pre-pandemic, 4,500 were face to face visits.
As well as delivering services in our Marshall Street centre, we also work in the community across seven London boroughs. From providing emotional support for London’s homeless, to running peer-to-peer listener programmes at Brixton prison, and delivering talks and workshops to schools and workplaces, we pride ourselves on the support we give to our community. Our volunteers also offer emotional support following any form of crisis affecting Londoners, such as the London Bridge attacks and the Grenfell Tower fire.
Role description:
Responsible for ensuring the delivery of the community events fundraising plans and activities. You will be managing a select number of events, along with engaging with the community and businesses to develop and implement plans for maximising income and support from individuals, groups and businesses.
Main responsibilities:
- Manage branch Community and Events, taking a lead for specific awareness events and fundraising events or activities.
- Organise events, including liaison with venues, suppliers, monitoring expenditure, volunteers and participants and ensure all preparation is complete.
- Ensure an excellent level of supporter care and stewardship with supporters is maintained and developed.
- Provide regular reports and information about activities, supporters and volunteers.
- Previous experience working in fundraising in either a community, challenge or mass participant event capacity.
· Manage our external communications, including our website, Mailchimp newsletters and Twitter account.

Experience and Skillset:
- Experience of establishing and maintaining strong relationships with individual fundraisers/supporters and/or, managing fundraising events.
- Experience of working to budgets, targets and plans.
- Experience of working with and supporting volunteers.
- Knowledge of fundraising regulations.
· Knowledge of and ability to develop and coordinate online giving donation platforms.
· Ability to work independently, and as part of a small team – including with volunteer stakeholders – when required
Hours of work and Location:
The basic hours are 28 hours per week spread over four working days. Within these hours there may be need to work some evenings and weekend days depending on when events happen, so flexibility is essential. The core responsibilities should be carried out during weekdays.
The amount of out of hours work will be agreed on an ongoing basis.
Time off in lieu will be allowed in agreement with the Head of Branch Operations and in line with the staff handbook and the European Working Time Directive.
(*) - At present, the branch office is located in Soho but Central London Samaritans, as an organization, will be moving location to a new site in Marylebone in early 2025. We are disclosing this now as the successful candidate would be expected to move with us when the branch office is rebased, so please do take note of this.
Limitations:
The post holder will be required to work within the rules and regulations of Samaritans and accept the authority of the Director and the Chair of the branch’s Board of Trustees, who have discretion to delegate authority to the post holder and to withdraw it.

This newly created position will become part of the Public Fundraising team and will develop and implement a legacy fundraising programme that will allow the charity to realise the great untapped potential of gifts in wills for the Charity. The Legacy Fundraising Manager will be tasked with increasing the number of legacy enquirers and pledgers from existing and new supporters and contribute to the charity’s sustainable long-term income growth
Gifts in wills are an important income stream for the charity, last year raising over £2M towards our fundraised income, despite limited promotion in this area. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced legacy fundraiser to really make their mark and develop a programme of activity that will feed our future legacy pipeline.
Your key responsibilities will include;
- Developing and driving forward an engaging and inspiring programme of activity that will increase numbers of legacy enquirers and pledgers from existing and new supporters.
- Project managing legacy fundraising activities, including creative development, briefing and managing external suppliers, briefing data selections and assessing results.
- Managing a legacy pipeline - engaging prospects, generating enquiries, moving supporters from enquirers to pledgers, stewarding pledgers and legator family members.
- Applying a strategic approach to legacy fundraising, producing annual fundraising plans, and contributing to longer term strategic growth of legacy income for the charity.
- As the programme grows there will likely be opportunities to develop and deliver legacy cultivation and stewardship events, alongside a digital and offline communication plan - making the most of existing events in the calendar as well as working with colleagues in the major giving team to explore other opportunities to engage those on the legacy pipeline in person.
This position would ideally suit a candidate with;
- A strong track record of legacy fundraising, with a broad knowledge of the gifts in wills marketplace and an ability to champion legacies
- Excellent experience and knowledge of relationship fundraising, marketing, cultivation and stewardship techniques needed for legacy fundraising
- Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, and competent using data and insight to plan supporter focused activity
- Passion for improving healthcare and patient experience for the people of East London, and in supporting the amazing NHS staff who work for this Health Trust
- Willing to contribute to the wider fundraising strategy and to represent fundraising both internally and externally with passion and professionalism
This is hybrid role requiring 2 day per week working from their office. This is a full time position, but requests for more flexible working may be considered.

About the role
Based within the Fundraising Team, this role is responsible for providing exceptional supporter care to our donors and fundraisers, ensuring accurate record keeping and reporting, and supporting various income streams for the charity including individual giving and community fundraising. - Be the first point of contact for all fundraising enquiries, providing information, support and materials quickly and efficiently.

LGBT Foundation is looking for a dynamic person to focus on external engagement in order to maximise our impact. Through taking an integrated approach, the role-holder will be responsible for driving forward both our fundraising and marketing activities, to ensure we develop audiences, build brand reputation and drive income growth. The post holder will drive forward two intrinsically linked key areas of work:
- Fundraising: Creating opportunities to significantly grow our unrestricted income and support funding our ambitious Strategic Plan and growth trajectory.
- Marketing: Ensuring we develop impactful communications and campaigns which convert into positive action and increase our reach and profile.
We operate hybrid working, but there will be an expectation for the postholder to work from Manchester at least once a week, with national travel where required.
The country’s most vulnerable children have overwhelmingly poor educational and life-outcomes, with disastrous consequences for themselves and society. Many of these children are excluded from school.
The Difference exists to improve the life-outcomes of the most vulnerable children by raising the status and expertise of those who educate them. The Difference is a small and growing organisation, founded in 2017. They’re an agile and flexible team and you’ll be joining at a time of investment in fundraising, having recently employed their first full-time Head of Fundraising. It’s an exciting time to join the organisation as they develop a new strategy to take them to 2030 with fundraising playing a key role in the organisation’s growth. They have a small but generous group of funders who have supported The Difference and as Trust & Foundations Manager you will work to grow the pipeline of trust funders and work closely with the Head of Fundraising to develop a fundraising strategy.
You will manage, develop, and grow The Difference’s portfolio of trusts and foundation donors, supporting to diversify their donor base and secure high value, long term support. This post will manage trust income in line with donor requirements, identifying and building relationships with new prospects and submitting high quality and engaging reports and proposals. You will feel real ownership over your work and need to be self-starting, flexible and hungry to grow with the charity.
The position will:
- Write compelling funding applications and grant reports to trusts and foundations at 5- and 6-figure level
- Grow multi-year restricted and unrestricted income from existing and new donors and support the growth of overall income from £1.25m to £1.9m annually in next 3 years
- Work closely with the Head of Fundraising to support with strategy and growth plans
- Develop and expand meaningful engagement opportunities that can be offered to funders
Ideal skills and experience:
- Experience developing bids and applications for 5+ figure grants
- Proven ability to write compelling, well-organised content which turns complex ideas and detail into summaries that can effectively engage different audiences
- Experience overseeing management of end-to-end stewardship journeys, from prospect to long-term engagement, and building relationships with foundation trustees and grant managers
- Knowledge and passion of working in the education sector

Charity People are honoured to be working with the fantastic First Days charity, on their search for their first ever Director of Fundraising to spearhead a new era of fundraising and take the charity into an exciting new era.
First Days was started in 2013 in response to needs in the local community in Berkshire. Quite simply: there were people with stuff they didn't need and people who desperately needed it. The charity grew very quickly and now, nearly eight years later, they have helped over 10,000 children, and distributed over 250 tonnes of donated goods.
Their aim for the charity is very clear: they want to close our doors because no one needs their service anymore. However, with 4.5 million children living in poverty in the UK they actually need to do the opposite - they need to boldly transform our service in order to launch a project that has the capacity and capability to help children across the UK.
This is their first ever Director of Fundraising role, and the postholder has an incredibly exciting brief: to take fundraising to the next level, shape and deliver a new strategy as they see fit, and build a solid income foundation for years to come, transforming how fundraising is delivered for the charity.

About the role

Main Aim of the role
• A developmental and leadership role which will be a high profile in the community which will:
- Deliver a Business Plan based on a Strategic Plan, Fundraising Plan and annual budget
- Demonstrate that the Business Plan has the commitment of BECT staff and is fully funded from income reserves and fundraising
- Demonstrate that BECT is meeting all of its social enterprise objectives
- Continue to develop the established strategic partnership with Barnham and Eastergate Parish Council
• Recruitment and management of all staff, including annual appraisals and pay reviews
• Build relationships with key stakeholders in the community
• Build an effective working relationship with the Chair of the Board of Trustees and other Trustees
• Maintain a system of governance through working with the Secretary and Finance Officer of the Trust
• Provide regular reports to the Board of Trustees
• Ensure the organisation’s staff and volunteers are focused on achieving the aims of the Trust
• Monitor potential sources of grant funding and where appropriate submit bids
• Manage and support the Hall Manager’s in obtaining best value for money in terms of contracts for the operation of the two Halls.
• Ensure the Licence to Operate agreement with Barnham and Eastergate Parish Council for Barnham Community Hall is managed on an ongoing basis through liaison with the Clerk to the Parish Council.
