We are hiring! We have a job vacancy for a Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) / Dementia Coordinator.

Shine has a membership of over 13,500 members living with SpinaBifida and/or Hydrocephalus and associated conditions and over 6,000 associated members.

In the last year we have seen a 25% increase in members who are living with NPH across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There are currently just under 600 members with NPH, plus their carers registered, but we are expecting this to continue to rise as awareness and diagnosis of the condition grows.

We are looking for an experienced, skilled, organised and dedicated new staff member to join Shine’s Services team to develop and lead our new NPH service.

Reports to: Director of Services

Location: Home Based or Hybrid * 

(dependent on proximity to our Head Office in Peterborough, with travel across England, Wales & Northern Ireland as required)                                                               

Hours: 35 hours per week (willingness to work outside of office hours, evenings and weekends when required)

Purpose of Job 

To provide the foundations for improved health, social and emotional outcomes for adults living with NPH and to support their families/carers.

To focus primarily on delivering 3 of Shine’s 7 Strategic Goals all of which drive Shine’s ambitions:

·  Goal 3: Adults of all ages with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus have the choices and opportunities to live healthy and independent lives

· Goal 4: A connected community

· Goal 7: Transforming attitudes and improving access to health and care services through engagement, partnerships, research and campaigning   

And contributing to delivery of other strategic goals as appropriate.

Staff management:

1. Shine is committed to providing quality advice and support. As service lead you will provide supervision, training, guidance and support in line with Shine’s HR processes and procedures to other members of staff who are involved in the delivery of work for the NPH service.

Project management:

1. Evaluate existing support for members living with NPH and their families/ carers within Shine

2. Develop and grow the service based on the needs and voice of our members

3. Lead the support of members living with NPH and their families/ carers across England, Wales & Northern Ireland

4. Develop annual work plans, which will enable continued development and delivery of the NPH service

5. Create a framework for the service and develop Shine colleagues to support delivery in key areas

6. To provide training to upskill colleagues in dementia

7. Create greater consistency across all Nations by developing strong working relationships with key colleagues in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

8. Drive collaborative working with the National Programmes and Engagement Manager and the National roles – particularly Health and Benefits

9. To manage any specific project budgets, ensuring spend is planned, within budget and allocated to the appropriate cost centre 

10.  Maintain an oversight on data capture and data management for the work on NPH, alongside the Director of Services develop outcome measures to demonstrate impact

11.  Work in line with GDPR, maintaining confidential member records providing clear and accurate record keeping for monitoring and evaluation

12.  Identify new potential sources of funding as the project develops and contribute to funding bids as requested. 

13.  Working with colleagues in Services, Fundraising, Marketing, Trust and Foundations colleagues and Shine’s membership to identify opportunities for long-term sustainability of the work.

Delivery  

To manage all enquiries from our members living with NPH and their carers, providing direct one to one support and advice including-

·  Welfare benefit/ income maximisation advice

·  Condition specific support to enable the person living with NPH to have choice and control over their current and future care needs.

·  Signposting /referring to more specialist information and support, internally or to other local, regional or national organisations 

You will also:

· In collaboration with Shine’s National Programmes & Membership Engagement Manager, Health and Services colleagues and external partners, lead the delivery of the NPH awareness week once a year

· Review existing and develop new resources for members with NPH alongside the Health team

· Develop and deliver an annual programme of events and peer support groups for members with NPH and their families and carers

· Oversee social media, Facebook and WhatsApp support groups

· Organise steering groups, providing opportunities for Shine members to guide the development of the service, and engage in consultations and research

· Develop partnership opportunities and closer working relationships with health professionals, statutory organisations and charities

· Identify key campaigns to improve the rights of members with NPH, improving access to statutory services, access to NHS care, awareness regarding diagnosis and treatment.

Person Specification 

Experience – essential 

· A minimum of 3 years' experience of working with older people living with dementia

· Experience of project management and delivery

· At least two years’ experience of delivering support and advice services for older people.

Knowledge, skills and abilities – essential 

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to build strong relationships both with internal and external stakeholders

· Ability to develop and deliver professional presentations and training in a variety of settings 

· IT literate with a good knowledge of Microsoft 365 and confident in the use of CRM Database systems

· A non-judgmental approach to working with people 

· A good knowledge of adult safeguarding policy, procedures and reporting

Role Purpose

Grants Manager

Salary: £40,000 - £42,000

Role Type: Permanent

Location: The role-holder will be expected to have a presence in our London office once or twice a week with flexibility on working from home at other times

Role purpose

At Fair4All Finance, we are making direct social investments (£40m+ to date) and grants into community finance providers and social fintechs to support their growth and future sustainability, as a key part of our strategy to scale up the provision of affordable credit.  This includes our new Community Finance Resilience Fund - we expect to have offered 40-50 grants from this Fund by end summer 2024 (at which point we expect the Fund to be fully committed). 

We are now looking for an experienced grants manager to manage this grant portfolio.  This will include deploying remaining grants (once approved by our grants committee), liaising with grantee organisations (primarily credit unions and CDFIs) on finalising grant agreements, supporting regular social impact and financial reporting, and dealing with ad hoc queries. There are good development opportunities as we develop our impact reporting.

You will be joining a collaborative and purpose driven team overseen by a committed board. Our team is drawn from a range of backgrounds spanning leaders and changemakers across financial services and social purpose sectors.  The reach and influence of our team makes this an exciting place to work and enables us to engage important stakeholders at the highest levels.

Some key responsibilities

In this role your focus will likely be split across some key areas of work:

Grant portfolio - management

· Offer grants (once approved by our grant committee), finalise and execute grant agreements in line with our policies and procedures

· Monitor grant spend to ensure in line with grant purpose

· Liaise with our Finance team to draw down grant funds

Grant portfolio - financial and social impact reporting

· Responsible for the regular monitoring of financial and social impact performance

· Working closely with an external evaluator and other members of the investment team to agree the monitoring framework and support impact analysis of the Community Finance Resilience Fund

Other

· Support due diligence on ad hoc grants to community finance providers

· Support regular reporting to our external funders in line with their requirements

To be successful, your experience and skills will include:

· Good experience of grant-making to small/medium social purpose organisations in the UK

This role is focused on the project management and delivery of our wear it pink campaign. Along with the mass participation manager, this role will play a key part in the planning and execution of wear it pink, with a focus on the design and development of our supporter journeys. 

With support from the mass participation manager, you’ll be responsible for building and executing a wear it pink supporter journey that looks to maximise income from our registrants as well as create strong relationships and repeat participation. You’ll also be responsible for other exciting projects throughout the campaign such as the fundraising pack development, content creation and working with teams across the organisation to deliver the campaign. 

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in the world of mass participation fundraising, project management and the charity sector.

About Reprieve

 Reprieve is a UK charity founded in 1999. Reprieve uses strategic interventions to end the use of the death penalty globally, and to end extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”.

Reprieve works with the most disenfranchised people in society, as it is in their cases that human rights are most swiftly jettisoned and the rule of law is cast aside. Thus, Reprieve promotes and protects the rights of those facing the death penalty and those who are the victims of extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”, with a focus on arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial executions.

About the Role

The Head of Unlawful Detentions is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s work on unlawful detentions, which comprises detention cases in North East Syria (NES), advocacy work with families of detainees in NES, support to those repatriated from NES, and our Guantánamo and Life after Guantánamo Projects.

Background on Unlawful Detentions Work

Reprieve was one of the very first organisations allowed inside Guantánamo. Since then, we have secured freedom for more than 80 men illegally detained without charge or trial, and we continue to support some of these men through our Life After Guantánamo project.

Reprieve also advocates for the release and repatriation of foreign nationals detained in camps and prisons in NES. We aim to ensure that detained individuals are treated in line with international law, and not subjected to the death penalty, extrajudicial execution, arbitrary detention, torture, or rendition. We also advocate for and support clients and their children after their release from arbitrary detention.

Through our work we aim to challenge and change flawed ‘War on Terror’ narratives and legal and political frameworks – including in the UK, Europe and the US – that engender state-sanctioned discrimination and abuse, undermine the rule of law and human rights, and create two-tiered layers of citizenship rights for ethnic minorities in Western countries.

About You

You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies using a dynamic approach in which each of Reprieve’s methodologies—casework, investigation, litigation, political and public engagement, support for and (where possible and appropriate) advocacy with affected communities—connect with one another to achieve positive outcomes in individual client’s cases and address structural rights violations.

You will be enthusiastic about working for an organisation with Reprieve's mission and vision. You will have a minimum of five years’ experience line managing busy and diverse teams. You have significant legal and casework experience and experience managing a complex portfolio of cases. You will also have substantial advocacy experience, an understanding of campaigning, strong writing skills, and excellent attention to detail. 

You are a person with a high level of cultural competency, with direct lived or working experience with communities impacted by the so-called ‘War on Terror’ and/or relevant conflicts. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how racism and institutional discrimination affect our clients. You will ideally have experience working closely with clients, empowering them to play an active role in designing the advocacy and strategy adopted to address issues in their cases.  You will have sensitivity to the risks faced by those with whom we work and a demonstrated commitment to acting in the best interest of clients. You will have professional maturity, flexibility, and a willingness to put clients and Reprieve’s mission above all else.

In addition to being conversant in relevant legal systems, you are abreast of the domestic, regional, and geopolitical developments that impact on detention issues in the areas in which we work. You will also have a good understanding of the political and legal context of human rights violations carried out in the name of ‘counter-terrorism’, particularly in the UK, Europe, and the US, and of gender and trafficking issues. You will have the ability to develop targeted strategies to influence the policies and public conversations in these jurisdictions.

Salary, contract and location

The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance. Reprieve works across a number of jurisdictions; as such this is a role that may require work outside of core hours from time to time.

BACKGROUND

The Helen Bamber Foundation (HBF) is a pioneering Human Rights charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers who are the survivors of trafficking and torture, including gender-based and ‘honour-based’ violence. Since August 2020, Asylum Aid has been part of the Helen Bamber Foundation Group. Asylum Aid operates as an independent charity, led by its own Executive Director within the group structure, and is ambitious about growing its impact and reach in the future to ensure protection from persecution for those who need it.  For over thirty years, Asylum Aid has been providing legal representation to some of the most vulnerable people seeking asylum. It has built an expert service, delivering vital and life-saving services in some of the most complex legal cases, with a particular speciality working with unaccompanied children, survivors of trafficking, torture or other forms of human cruelty, and stateless people. Job Purpose 

The main purpose of this role is to support the international Girl Guide and Girl Scout Movement to improve its meaningful youth participation practice and increase its capacity to be led by girls and young women.

Key Responsibilities 

Mainstream Meaningful Youth Participation

• Work with the Youth Voice Volunteer Team to support capacity building in Member Organisations*, this may include:

• Delivering workshops about meaningful youth participation.

• Creating tailored action plans with Member Organisations.

• Developing resources to support meaningful youth participation projects at national to local level.

• Collaborate with different WAGGGS teams to embed meaningful youth participation into event planning and delivery, for example:

• Ensuring youth participation is happening throughout the planning and delivery process.

• If an event is aimed at young people, supporting the programme to be relevant, exciting, accessible and learner-led for the participants.

• Champion intergenerational leadership** to make sure everyone knows they have a part to play in a Movement led by girls and young women.

• Put the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion into action by not taking a ‘one size fits all’ approach to work.

• Apply intersectionality and be aware of the global, multilingual context of WAGGGS in all areas of work.

• Take the time to understand cultural context and local barriers and the different experiences and perspectives on youth participation young people may have in different contexts, before deciding your approach and be prepared to adapt along the way.

* WAGGGS is a membership-based organisation – we have 153 different national Member Organisations who directly deliver Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting in their country.

Support Young People in Governance

• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of existing recommendations produced by youth-led research into young women in governance.

• Assess what is needed to continue to grow WAGGGS’s meaningful youth participation practice in the governance space.

• Collaborate with the WAGGGS Governance Team to put into action recommendations.

Ensure Meaningful Participation of Girls and Young Women 

• Support the participation of girls and young women in WAGGGS activities across the organisation through, for example,

• Helping to implement safeguarding policies and procedures.

• Checking written content to ensure that it is clear and accessible.

• Advising on how to make sure young people feel meaningfully included.

• Identifying practical ways so that every and any girl can take part in WAGGGS opportunities, taking into account our global diversity and range of languages, time zones and contexts.
