Role Purpose
Southwark Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years. Now it stands on the vibrant and exciting regenerated south bank of the Thames surrounded by cultural venues such as Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and Borough Market, the offices of major companies as well as schools and diverse residential communities. It is an inclusive Christian community that offers a welcome to all.
This is a key role at Southwark Cathedral supporting the Dean. This secretarial role will primarily feature management of a busy personal diary, correspondence and broader administrative support for the Dean in his capacity as Dean of Southwark, Chair of Chapter and CEO of the Cathedral.
The role holder will also support the Cathedral team as the Office Administrator – responsible for a range of office duties relating to staff wellbeing & socials, office equipment & spaces and the Cathedral’s general enquiries email address.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
For the Dean
- Manage the Dean’s diary: including making appointments, arranging meetings, scheduling preaching and other liturgical arrangements, programming annual schedules (such as Bishops Staff Meetings, chaplaincy and wider public commitments) - keeping Outlook diaries up to date with any changes and making travel arrangements;
- Prepare the Dean’s weekly diary file, including the preparation of any meeting papers or briefs for the week ahead;
- Provide administrative support for the Dean in relation to their attendance at meetings associated with the governance of the Cathedral, including Chapter, Finance Committee, Audit & Risk Committee, Nominations Committee, Fabric Advisory Committee and Board of Enterprises. This will include liaising with colleagues on the Dean’s availability for upcoming meetings, any research the Dean requires and preparation of paper packs for such meetings. Minute taking will not usually be required, but may be requested from time to time in liaison with members of staff usually responsible for the minutes;
- Draft, file and send outgoing correspondence on the Dean’s behalf and process incoming correspondence;
- Support the Dean in all their working relationships including building and maintaining excellent relationships with Chapter Members and Committee Members, the Bishop’s staff and with the wider Diocese, as well as with congregation members, neighbours, commercial partners, professional advisers and other third-party organisations relating to the Dean’s work;
- Set up meetings including room set up and refreshment provision as required;
- Assist the Dean with the processing of their expenses;
- Work with the Governance & Committees Manager on Gifts Registry declarations for the Dean;
- Provide administrative support to bodies the Dean chairs, e.g. Southwark Cathedral Development Trust, the Deans Fund and other Cathedral-associated bodies;
- Assist the Sub Dean and Precentor with administrative tasks as requested;
- Update the Cathedral database in support of the Dean’s work.
Office Administration
- Receiving, distributing and responding to emails sent to the Cathedral’s general information email address;
- Ordering stationery, office equipment and consumables in line with the Cathedral’s approach to sustainability and ethical buying;
- Ensuring the Cathedral’s printing and franking equipment is kept fully functional, and liaising with our contractors when issues arise;
- Ensuring that the offices, reception area, print room, stationery area, staff kitchen and facilities are kept clean, tidy and supplied;
- Co-ordinating Staff Meetings, including booking suitable space and organising refreshments for the meeting;
- Organising staff social events, outings and meals;
- Providing administrative support on Cathedral projects as and when they arise.
General Duties and Expectations

- Support other teams on an ad hoc basis when required;

Terms and Conditions
Working Hours
The working hours shall be 35 hours per week (exclusive of meal breaks), over five days. Some out of hours working will be required to support meetings and events and this will be notified in advance. Time off in lieu will be awarded in line with Southwark Cathedral’s policy.
Annual Leave
25 days per annum as well as statutory bank holidays and an additional day at Christmas, with an additional 5 days annual leave after 10 years’ continuous employment.
Probation
The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.
Season Ticket Loan
Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.
Pension
The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund. The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.
Working Expenses
Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

EPIKS is passionate about giving people the opportunity to travel without using cars. Using our established Walk Wheel Ride Kirklees Campaign, we are working with partners to increase active travel through consultation, participation and profile-raising. We are seeking a full-time Active Travel Co-ordinator based in Huddersfield to oversee a busy and varied schedule of activity that will lead to behavioural change in active travel in Kirklees. Through funded projects and opportunities around new rail transport infrastructure, we have three Active Travel Community Hubs and a year-long process of collaboration and codesign to discover how people can be assisted to walk, wheel and ride more in Huddersfield, the Holme Valley and Batley and Spen Valley. This is a varied and rewarding role: designing and overseeing inclusive participation with a varied audience; supporting a dynamic team and ensuring that the profile of active travel is raised through activity and innovative communications. You will be an enthusiastic and organised advocate for active travel, who enjoys working alongside partners and the public. You will be experienced in managing budgets and the recording, reporting and evaluation of funded projects.
The post is initially funded for 11 months, 37.5 hours per week. Based in Huddersfield at the Media Centre, a fully serviced and accessible office, with additional centres in the Holmfirth and Batley areas, there is opportunity for occasional home working. The role requires some weekend and evening work patterns.
Role Profile:
The Active Travel Programme Co-ordinator will be instrumental in the planning, delivery and monitoring of regular events that encourage people to walk, wheel and ride more often. Our Walk Wheel Ride programme will work with partners and volunteers, resulting in community-focused walking, cycling and wheeling-related activities. These include walks (led and self-guided); bike repair sessions; training and test rides on e-bikes; social rides; cargo bike engagement events; show and tell events and talks, developing and promoting walking and cycling routes.
In 2025, EPIKS will be promoting multi-modal travel to residents and employers in Huddersfield using an engagement platform Commonplace to discover what help is needed to get to and from Huddersfield town centre, workplaces or colleges by bike or on foot.
Three Community Active Travel Hubs will offer information and advice on active travel: in person, online and via other agencies. A co-design project with an external consultant will utilize advanced software to identify first mile, last mile routes to Huddersfield Station.
Activities will be responsive to local need and cultural opportunities, so liaising with partners and stakeholders will be a key part of the role. This means that the post holder will have room to be creative and flexible and shape the hubs to suit the local community.
The role will require supporting, scheduling and managing the safe delivery of activities with 2 part time Active Travel Engagement Officers, volunteers and cycle trainers. Regular liaison with admin and comms staff will ensure the wider team, public and funders are clear about the plans and outcomes of the Walk,Wheel,Ride programme throughout Kirklees.
The post holder will be able to interlink active travel schedules and issues with the wider EPIKS team, through the promotion of access to greenspaces and improvements to green/blue infrastructure. With foresight and creative partnership working, the Active Travel Coordinator will be able to seek funding and revenue streams to enable the future sustainability of the hubs.

Main purpose of this role
Our mentoring work provides a person-centred approach, supporting disabled people to access the life-changing power of movement and sport. We train mentors (who are mostly disabled) and match them with disabled people who face multiple barriers and are likely to remain inactive without intervention. They work together to break down these barriers and connect with local sports clubs and initiatives. We delivered our first mentoring programme in Nottingham and are now looking to expand the programme across the East Midlands and other areas in England and Wales. About the role:
With our long-serving CEO and leadership team stepping down in 2024/25, the executive function has been updated into a co-CEO model of a Creative Director and Joint CEO and an Executive Director and Joint CEO (new role) to provide joint development and leadership for the organisation and affiliated projects. Together they will be responsible for articulating and achieving the creative vision and business objectives, to maintain and grow a versatile and vibrant performing arts centre and cultural community hub. - Ensure data used for fundraising complies with Norwood’s GDPR and direct marketing policies and ensure adherence to the Fundraising Regulator Code of Practice.
- Utilise good communication skills, both verbal and written, to build relationships with stakeholders and donors.
- Provide support for emerging priorities, as agreed with your line manager, for example, assisting colleagues in the Donor Support Services team with data input during and after fundraising events and appeal launches.
- Assist at evening or weekend fundraising events, including the Annual Dinner.
- Be an active member of the Fundraising and Community Engagement department and work on any other initiatives as required.
Essential Experience / Skills
- Advanced user of a database or CRM.
- Experience as a data administrator or similar role involving manipulating data
- Experience of using Raiser’s Edge or a similar charity database
- Some experience of running queries and reports and exporting data
- Some experience of running data health routines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel to an intermediate level
- Understanding of relational databases
- Excellent IT skills and analytical mindset
Desirable Experience / Skills
- Experience of working in the charity sector
- Experience of writing process guides or other user documentation
- Experience of training or supporting system users
- Knowledge of ImportOmatic
- Working with volunteers
- Knowledge of the Fundraising Regulator Code of Practice
