The UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub (UKHIH) is looking to recruit a Communications and Engagement Manager for a Maternity Cover for up to 1 year. 

In this role you will have the opportunity to lead processes and activities in support of the design and delivery of the UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub’s (UKHIH) global communications and engagement strategy under the direction and guidance of the UKHIH Director.

The role will require you to have strong campaign and project management skills and a passion for driving the conversation around humanitarian research and innovation by delivering integrated multi-channel communications campaigns to engage the key stakeholders and drive impact around our work. 

The role also leads UKHIH’s convening work – bringing together stakeholders (e.g., innovators, academics, and humanitarians) through a range of mechanisms to promote and facilitate collaborations that focus on new and improved approaches, processes, and systems that make humanitarian action more effective.

The UKHIH Communications and Engagement Manager will work closely with Elrha’s communications team to align communications as part of a broader organisational development process and strategy, contributing to ongoing communications efforts for both Elrha and UKHIH during a period of strategic change. 

Your application will need to demonstrate: 

• Experience of planning and delivering multi-channel communications strategies in a way that is timely, targeted, impactful and ethical. 
• Experience in the international development or humanitarian sector, including an awareness of humanitarian issues and the way that the humanitarian system operates in terms of relevant media, networks, and organisations.  
• Excellent track record of Experience of managing external communications suppliers and agencies. 
• Experience supporting diverse teams in the development of communication and engagement strategies and capacity development. 
• Demonstrated ability to manage and develop creative content across digital, print and other mediums. 
• An understanding of transitioning brands through organisational change processes. 
• Experience with event management including webinars, round tables, conference events, workshops and networking events.
• Strong written and design skills to inform the development of high-quality content for publication and to support partners to summarise complex information in clear, non-technical language. 
• An understanding of how to track the impact of communications and engagement activities.

Your Role

Line Management Responsibilities:  

Line management of our Digital staff, but we are looking to grow our Communications Team and hope to have a Social Media specialist soon.

Your Responsibilities will include:

Campaign development and management:

· Develop and project manage a programme of integrated communication campaigns that grab attention and encourage action to support our vision and mission.

• Work closely with the Fundraising and Membership Support Teams to develop aligned messaging and campaign assets and to deliver these across a variety of platforms.
• Lead on the creation of compelling campaign assets and content (e.g. educational and self-help, online actions and campaign toolkits).
• Manage campaign timeframes and budgets seeking a good, quantifiable return on investment.
• Responsible for the organisations membership database (currently on Raisers Edge) and champagning the charity to grow its membership base.
• Gather and present audience insight to inform our campaigns and ensure our campaigning work is evidence-led.
• Set and measure campaign KPIs, conduct campaign de-briefs and write campaign evaluations, encourage a culture of testing and learning and growing our campaigning approach.
•  Seek relevant external collaboration opportunities with allies and partners to amplify our campaigns.

Projects and events management:

• Organise, plan and deliver our involvement at online and in person events, and help showcase the different types of support Myaware UK has to offer the myasthenia community.
• Design, deliver and project manage cross-organisational communication activities which will raise the profile myasthenia related conditions.
• Support the CEO to deliver the organisations new website aimed at supporting the needs of people living with myasthenia, raising awareness of healthcare professionals, and championing world-class research.
• Support the Fundraising Team with the communication requirements for events, the Research and Partnerships Team with communication about new research and medical advances, and the Membership Support Team with communication about our services.

Cross-functional collaboration

• Work closely with the Fundraising and the Membership Support Teams to integrate campaign efforts and identify the relevant campaign issues, priorities and opportunities for fundraising, influencing policy and network membership growth.
• Support Myaware UKs broader communications that are strategically aligned with locally focused communications activities, projects and events.
• Collaborate with freelancers, consultants, agencies, volunteers, supporters, and stakeholders to amplify our communications and campaigns reach and impact.

• At least three years' experience leading in a communications and campaigns role in a comparable organisation, leading successful campaigns to further organisational objectives.

• Experience in managing communication projects resulting in effective events or activities.

About this role:

Reporting to the Deputy CEO, the Communications and Policy Manager will support SIB’s track record of sector, government and media engagement, notably the high standard of publication set through its media partnerships with Tortoise and the Financial Times, its contributions to the policy landscape in the social sector, and its in-house data analysis and insight generation. This new post will contribute to SIB’s ongoing communications and policy work and its reach and influence.

Key responsibilities

1. Support the delivery of a comprehensive plan for our communications and policy activity, combining ongoing promotional communications, specific activities for funds and programmes, and proactively generated content and opportunities to influence

2. Co-ordinating with SIB partners in developing and delivering communication work, on major projects such as the Youth Investment Fund, the Recovery Loan Fund and the Enterprise Development Programme; ensuring that it is powered by data and customer insight of the highest quality

3. Keeping track of policy developments in areas of strategic importance to SIB, notably in social investment, youth, community energy and infrastructure investment. Writing briefings on key policy developments related to SIB’s strategic priorities, proactively identifying opportunities to further our policy agenda; also researching and preparing responses for relevant external consultations, using SIB data and evidence

4. Identifying, cultivating and maintaining relationships and partnerships with key policy, research and communications stakeholders

The post holder will report to the Director of Advocacy, who in turn reports to the ICAM Director.  The post holder may directly line-manage social media volunteers.

Salary: 40,000-45,000 per year

The role is a full-time, 5-day-week (35 hours) position.

The salary is £38,000 - £43,000 per annum depending upon experience.

• Oversee the organisation of on-line and in person events to i) promote our tools, standards, policy reports and impact stories to a global audience and ii) promote key message as part of a wider advocacy strategy.
• Represent CoST and EAP at high level international and regional events, bilateral meetings with key partners and in media interviews.
• Lead the creation, writing and publication of communications materials, e.g. media briefs, presentations, case studies, toolkits and blogs.
• Oversee our e-newsletters and social media, building our audience and engagement.

Having recently secured a strategic partnership with Sport England, this role will play a pivotal role in activating the research activities that are required to inform the Leadership Skills Foundation and the wider sector to empower a more diverse range of young people with opportunities to develop essential leadership and life skills, regardless of their background.

You will be a valued manager within the ‘Programme Delivery’ team and will work with other departments across the organization to support the development of future accessible and inclusive essential leadership programmes. With a key focus being on the needs, benefits and outcomes required among underserved and/or under-represented communities and individuals.

This role will require positive and proactive internal working relationships to be created with other teams and colleagues to support organisational objectives and goals.

In addition, the role will also be required to foster relationships with external stakeholders to shape the research that you will manage through your team.  This work will support the development of our programmes to engage thousands more young people and give them the essential leadership skills for them to believe, lead and succeed.

We’re looking for a confident, collaborative research manager that wants to make a positive social difference through research.  This role will inform the changes that are required within the organisation’s programmes and support the sector to give access to essential leadership skills development to under-served communities through breaking down barriers.

Role duties and responsibilities

1. Manage research and impact projects and activities, internally and externally, in support of our programme delivery strategic goals.
2. Develop and manage research proposals and methodologies to address strategic goals. 
3. Manage both primary and secondary research using a range of methodologies. 
4. Interpret and analyse research to derive meaningful insights and provide actionable recommendations.
5. Present research findings, into clear, actionable recommendations, and compelling presentations that facilitate informed decision making across all levels of the organisation. 
6. Identify and recommend new research and evaluation projects and approaches which address gaps in our current evidence base. 
7. Engage with the Leadership team and Head of Programme Delivery to understand the organisation’s research requirements and align with organisational goals.
8. Manage other researchers providing guidance and support in their professional development.
9. Contribute to the research project budgeting process, ensuring efficient use of resources. 
10. Scope and produce ‘Invitations to Tender’ for commissioned research and manage the commissioning process, ensuring that the proposed research meets required objectives. 
11. Manage commissioned research contracts, including monitoring progress, reviewing and editing reports. 
12. Foster collaborative internal relationships to drive a culture of research driven decisions throughout the organisation. 
13. Build and maintain relationships with external partners and funders and communicate key findings where required. 
14. Ensure all research activities comply with ethical standards. 
15. Maintain an awareness of new research developments across the sector and use this to inform planning and decision making.

Skills, experience and knowledge

Required/essential:

• Educated to degree level in a subject with substantial statistical or research content.
• Proven experience of working in a relevant research role. 
• Experience of leading/managing a range of different research projects, using a range of both primary and secondary research methodologies to gather both qualitative and quantitative research. 
• Experience in designing and leading high quality research proposals and tenders.
• Demonstratable experience and evidence of aligning research projects and activities with strategic goals and informing organisational decision making.
• Experience of formulating research reports and making recommendations in a range of easy to read and innovative formats.   
• Proven track record of building and nurturing highly effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior colleagues and external funders or partners. 
• Effective communication skills with the ability to present information confidently to a diverse range of stakeholders, including leadership team, funders and external partners.
• Excellent project management skills and experience of leading research projects on time and on budget.  
• Strong organisation skills, ability to multi-task and work effectively in a busy team environment. 
• Able to deliver at pace ensuring efficiency.
• Excellent listening and recording skills to effectively evidence the findings of research. 
• Understanding of ethical standards and practices in research including potential issues.
• Complete and finish tasks independently and/or as part of a team.

This newly created role in our Standards and Learning team will lead on the development and implementation of a new safeguarding programme in higher education institutions in Francophone Africa as well as contribute to the development of Keeping Children Safe globally. The overall goal of this programme is that all children, young people, and youths and adults at risk – especially refugees, youths with disabilities and persons vulnerable to discrimination because of their gender – who encounter Higher Education Institutions are safe from harm.
