As the Programme Manager for the Green Future Fellowships, you will play a pivotal role in managing and developing this new programme. Location
Our light, spacious head office is based in a fantastic location in central London with views over St James’s Park and close to the West End. We operate hybrid, flexible working practices with a baseline for office based working of a mandatory weekly team day plus further days each week as required for the role and the Academy.

MISSION OBJECTIVE
The Climate Action Manager sits within the International Programmes team and is primarily responsible for updating and managing the delivery of Bonsucro’s Climate Action Roadmap – a key area of engagement in Bonsucro’s strategy.
This role will take a day-to-day thematic lead for Bonsucro on all areas of climate action (both adaptation and mitigation) helping Bonsucro understand and respond to this important driver of sustainability initiatives in the sugarcane sector worldwide and enhancing the value proposition that we offer to our members in this regard.
This is a key role that will keep Bonsucro abreast of what is priority in the climate space, funding opportunities and methodologies/frameworks, to ensure proper incorporation into everything that Bonsucro does – from certification to impact projects and value proposition to members.
The CAM will also create new tools, trainings and other support materials focused on Bonsucro members to allow them to develop their climate adaptation and mitigation plans, in line with the Bonsucro Production Standard’s requirements and expectations from the market.
PURPOSE
· Identifies and monitors Bonsucro’s areas of competitive advantage in the area of climate action.
· Develops and articulates Bonsucro’s policy position and value proposition on key areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
· Revises and tailors the key work streams, strategic and tactical targets within the Bonsucro Climate Action Roadmap in line with the evolving climate space.
· Acts as the central leader of Bonsucro’s Climate Action Roadmap, its implementation, management, progress report and communications, as well as benchmarkings with the market and other organizations, seeking the roadmap’s continuous improvement.
· Acts as Project Manager for the implementation of the Climate Action Toolkit Project (CATP) supported, in part, with funding from ISEAL Innovations Fund.
Helps develop calls for proposals for the Bonsucro Impact Fund which address priority areas of the Climate Action Roadmap and keeps abreast with developments in the sugarcane sector to inform future impact projects.
ENGAGEMENT
· Engages with relevant staff to ensure that the Climate Action Roadmap and Climate Action Toolkit project are implemented and communicated in line with expectations, teams’ plans and budgets.
· Builds capacity and advises colleagues in the area of climate action relevant to their roles.
Engages with internal staff to ensure that the latest climate science is well incorporated into Bonsucro’s certification system and that members are well equipped to implement the market expectations around climate action.
· Engages with external stakeholders in the climate space to capture evolving trends, funders and other opportunities for the work of Bonsucro.
· Engages as the primary point of contact for the CATP partners and stakeholders, including ISEAL, and for all Bonsucro projects related with climate.
· Engages with Bonsucro members to understand their needs in the area of climate action and expectations regarding Bonsucro support, inform them about emerging trends and advise on queries related to climate action.
· Represents Bonsucro in relevant external forums and brings learnings to Bonsucro.
· Engages with potential external funders making them aware of opportunities for supporting Bonsucro-led climate action projects.
DELIVERY
· Ensures the timely delivery of the Climate Action Roadmap in line with organisational quality standards, adapting to changing context and needs where relevant.
· Ensures the timely delivery, communications and progress reporting of the CATP according to partners’ and donors’ expectations and quality standards.
Organizes the timely incorporation of evolving climate knowledge and trends into the structure and implementation of Bonsucro’s Climate Action Roadmap.
· Evolves and optimises the Climate Action Roadmap to ensure that it responds to emerging needs of members and wider sector developments.
· Ensures that all deliverables within the CATP have a robust and credible technical validation, in coordination with partners, donors and key stakeholders.
· Devise improvements to Bonsucro certification standards and scheme in order to fully reflect the latest climate knowledge available.
SUBSTANTIVE KNOWLEDGE
Substantive understanding of how global trends in climate change thinking and policy are driving actions in agricultural-based value chains.
Substantial understanding of the theory and methodology behind GHG accounting, SBTI initiatives and carbon removal methodologies and how use of these translate into agricultural practice.
Understanding of the impacts of climate change on primary (particularly smallholder) agricultural production and how producers can adapt to these changes to mitigate these impacts.
An understanding of current trends in regenerative agriculture
Demonstrated skill critically analysing and synthesising data.
Demonstrated skill generating and communicating insights from data.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Experience working successfully with international colleagues and stakeholders.
Excellent command of the English language, and confident engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese (written and verbal) is desirable
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different audiences and deliver information with clarity.
EXECUTION SKILLS
Experience of managing projects and programmes with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience of developing projects for both internal and external donors and mobilising resources to support these.
Experienced and comfortable independently delivering coaching or capacity building sessions, both for internal and external stakeholders
SPECIALISED KNOWLEDGE
Professional or academic background in sustainability, environmental issues, agriculture, international development or other related field.

About CAT
The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is an internationally renowned environmental charity, a world-leading eco centre, and one of the foremost providers of postgraduate environmental education in the UK, based near Machynlleth in Powys, Mid Wales.
CAT provides inspiration, education and training in solutions to the climate and biodiversity emergency.
Key activities include residential short courses, vocational training and postgraduate degrees in a wide range of sustainability-related topics, with online courses and events offered alongside in-person learning.
CAT launched the Zero Carbon Britain Hub and Innovation Lab in 2020 with support from the Moondance Foundation. This was initially a three year project and received further funding from the Moondance Foundation to run the Innovation Lab for a further three years. The aim of the project is to improve the capacity of councils and communities to turn climate emergency declarations into action and create systemic change in order to increase resilience to climate change.
This will be achieved by offering a programme of support aimed at increasing the competence, confidence and effectiveness of policy makers, communities and organisations in developing zero carbon policies and action plans. This support will include: using the Zero Carbon Britain model to provide people with the knowledge to create Zero Carbon Action Plans; delivering Zero Carbon Britain training using a ‘train the trainer’ model to increase the skills and capacity of communities to take action on climate change; supplying the tools to enable people to turn climate emergency declarations into action; setting up a digital resource hub and online network to provide peer support and increase confidence of individuals and communities to take action on climate change. In conjunction with the Zero Carbon Britain Hub, an Innovation Lab will identify key issues, priorities and tasks; develop ideas that impact on these areas; and create routes into larger scale impact or systems change.

About the role
We are now recruiting a knowledgeable and experienced Climate Resilience Programme Manager to continue leading our climate action strategy. The purpose of the role is to bring climate change expertise to grow, strengthen, deepen, and diversify our innovative programme portfolio, continue to minimise the negative environmental impacts of all of our programmes, and deepen our carbon emissions reduction strategy as we continue to expand the reach and impact of our organisation.
You will build strong partnerships by working closely alongside our local partners in programme design, technical knowledge, implementation and monitoring. It is anticipated that the post will include 3-4 overseas trips per annum.
The role affords huge scope for personal development, with the flexibility and autonomy needed to shape this critical area of programming. A particular objective will be to strengthen the M&E across the portfolio and access additional external funding for scaling up our climate resilience programmes.
You should have:
Essential
- Experience in the climate resilience sector and demonstrable knowledge of how to build and manage climate resilience programmes
- Knowledge of humanitarian and/or livelihoods programming, including monitoring, evaluation accountability and learning (MEAL) processes is critical
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to work with overseas partners with varying levels of English.
- Strong administrative, research, analysis, numeracy and IT skills.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills with an ability to produce accurate, factual and compelling reports, proposals, and presentations

About the role
For the past five years, Platform’s fossil free work has focused on the coordination of the activist network UK Divest, with the aim to disrupt the financing of the fossil fuel industry through local government pension schemes. In the past two years, the remit of our work has expanded, to include new campaigns focused on exposing and disrupting fossil fuel industry sportswashing and the lobbying of Parliament. Now, with new campaigning underway on new targets in the pension sector, we are re-organising and growing our team to resource this exciting work.
Working alongside three Fossil Free Campaigners at Platform - and partners at Friends of the Earth Scotland - you will build on the strengths and learnings of past years to lead the strategic development of this important programme of work, incorporating UK Divest, Fossil Free Parliament, fossil free sports work, and new pensions work.
Our fossil free campaign is also inextricably tied to other movements for social justice. We are specifically seeking someone to develop the international solidarity potential of this work, understanding how fossil fuels are intertwined with the defence industry, colonialism, and global extraction more broadly. We want to target investment in and political support for fossil fuel companies because we believe it is intricately linked to broader global justice, such as the UK Government’s role in supporting destructive energy projects worldwide. The best divestment and anti-fossil fuel campaigning has been, and your future work will be, informed by and responsive to the BDS movement, the Global Energy Embargo for Palestine and anti-apartheid and arms trade work.
As a permanent member of Platform staff, you will also participate in the collective decision-making and running of Platform as an organisation, as well as having fundraising responsibilities alongside your project work.

We have been awarded a significant grant from the Defra Trees Call to Action Fund for #Defra Heart of England: growing momentum, capacity, skills and trees. In partnership with Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick, and Wychavon District Councils, the Heart of England Forest is leading this three year project to engage with landowners and local communities to increase tree cover across the landscape. Working together to identify suitable areas for trees to be planted, facilitate tree planting, and support woodland maintenance, new woodlands will be created that benefit the environment, boost biodiversity, and provide havens for communities to enjoy.
We are looking for two candidates with widespread experience of project delivery and good team working skills. The successful candidates will work closely with project partners to engage with local communities and larger scale landowners to identify suitable areas for tree planting. Working with them to understand their needs, you will provide information on different types of planting and support them through the regulatory and funding process.

- Work with HC&G to support relationship management of external agencies and consultants, identifying and responding to opportunities to utilise pro-bono support from such businesses;
- Collect and analyse data and produce reports and presentations on key media and PR performance indicators to assess the effectiveness and reach of our communications activities and make recommendations for improvement;
- Identify and pursue opportunities to utilise high profile and celebrity support. Work collaboratively with other members of the Communications and Giving team to engage these contacts in media campaigns, appeals, digital communications and events, and where possible and appropriate cultivate Ambassador-style partnerships;
- Attend relevant events, external fora and working group meetings and identify opportunities for involvement with advocacy initiatives, particularly those within the climate space, that benefits Afghanaid’s goals and reputation;
- Any other tasks as assigned by the line manager, MD and/or Directorate.

Essential:
- A strong understanding of the UK’s media environment and knowledge of how to engage journalists across broadcast, print and digital media outlets across the media landscape;
- Existing network of warm journalist contacts;
- Knowledge of how to plan and execute media campaigns, end-to-end;
- Experience in building awareness of an organisation’s profile, positioning and core messaging via earned media that supports income generation;
- Experience and demonstrable success in building and maintaining excellent relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, particularly in generating sustained engagement from high profile supporters;
- Experience communicating about crisis contexts or sensitive issues, with the proven ability to produce and advocate for sensitive, ethical and nuanced communications and storytelling;
- A self-starter, able to work independently, identify and make the most of emerging opportunities, manage varied workloads and work to deadlines. A desire to grow and take real ownership of a fast growing function;
- Passion for demonstrating the value of media and PR to internal stakeholders and for building trust amongst spokespeople;
- Passion for keeping abreast of sectoral trends and organisational learnings, using insights to inform and improve media strategy;
- Excellent writing skills and attention to detail, with the drive and personal integrity to produce high-quality and accurate work;
- Excellent IT skills, particularly in using Microsoft Office and Canva;
- An outgoing, adaptive and resilient personality, enthusiastic about working successfully within a tight-knit environment;
- Sensitivity to Islamic culture and respect of Afghan customs and traditions;
- Experience and/or willingness to occasionally work outside normal office hours to attend events, respond to enquiries and opportunities, and occasionally deal with unfolding crises (which will be eligible for time off in lieu);

Desirable:
- Thorough understanding of the current and historical context in Afghanistan and the wider region, as well as experience in a humanitarian/development organisation specifically;
- Experience running media and/or advocacy campaigns about climate change;
- Experience collaborating with other organisations to draft advocacy messaging;
- Experience in using media monitoring tools;
- Experience drawing up annual or multi-year strategies for media functions;
- Ability to speak Dari and/or Pashto.
